“Clean and convenient”
Reviewed 14 June 2012

We chose the hotel because it appeared to be good value and it was very convenient to the TGV station - 5-10 minutes walk. We collected a rental car from the station and the hotel had ample parking space. Everything about the hotel was of good standard and the restaurant menu, though limited was well prepared and presented.

I didn't expect much from the reviews I read online, but still this hotel was within walking distance of the SNF to Paris so we chose this hotel. It turns out that most of the local trains leave from Avignon Poste which is where we arrived. There's a "navette" bus located across the street within the walls of the city in front of the post office which runs often and on schedule and stops at the post office, a block from the hotel and at the SNF and it's no problem to bring your suitcases on the bus. We arrived at the hotel less than 10 minutes later and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a modern hotel with a very helpful front desk staff and large & very quiet rooms. I slept uninterrupted the four nights of our stay. A friend mentioned the scent of cleaning products in the hallway and I did notice that as well, but it wasn't a problem. I didn't try the restaurant - we were too busy eating in Avignon, Nimes and Arles - but I understand the food is good.

A bit of a walk from the town centre but this is what we wanted. Hotel had nice, clean, spacious rooms with relatively new furnishings. The hotel has an on-site restaurant which although we did not eat at, it seemed good value for money. There was also a nice lobby area and a free car park and wifi. Would stay again.

We chose this hotel because of it's proximity to the train station and got the benefit of a lovely clean room and a restaurant that was excellent.
It is a very short walk to the hotel from the train station and not hard to do with luggage. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and were both very impressed with the food and service. The staff we encountered during our stay were all very pleasant.

We visited Avignon for an overnight trip. the hotel is clean and close to a bus stop which takes you into the main tourist area in the old city within 10-15min. It has ample parking and the rooms are clean but small. Breakfast is not as advertise and not worth the money

We chose to stay here one night before an early train trip, and it exceeded our expectations. Most pleasantly surprising was the cheap and cheerful restaurant. Much to our delight our pizza and fish with stuffed artichokes were freshly cooked by a lovely performance chef before our eyes, and the food tasted great! Excellent value meal at around 10 euros a head.

The room was clean, pleasant and well equipped. The staff were very helpful, and gave us glasses and a bottle opener for a bottle of wine we brought with us. At dawn, the man on reception arranged a taxi to the station which made everything stress free and easy for us.

One point - we booked the hotel thinking it was "across the road" from the TGV station. It is not. It is around an 800 metre walk, which will be OK for most people but not for those with limited mobility and it is a bit of a trek for anyone with luggage. It can be hard to get a taxi because it is so close to the station and a way out of town. There is a shuttle bus but the service is not good in the early morning.

This review is in particular for non-French speakers unfamiliar with Avignon:

A caveat that I stayed here when the hotel was an Express by Holiday Inn, but for those unfamiliar with Avignon, this hotel is a great spot for daytrippers heading on the TGV to other Provence locations such as Aix and Marseille and those who will spend only a moderate amount of time in Avignon itself. The hotel is a long walk or very short cab ride (short enough that cab drivers may refuse you) from the TGV station. You can also take the local bus that goes from the TGV, passing by the hotel, and into Avignon Centrale, which is about a 20 minute and 1 Euro trip. I used the local bus to get to/from the TGV and Centrale train stations and into the center of Avignon. Be forewarned to not miss the last bus at night!

When the hotel was an Express, I will confess that the rooms were fairly basic and the air conditioning was not working effectively, but the hotel itself was perfectly adequate for the price. The management and front desk staff spoke fluent English and was very helpful in every capacity--from assisting on local tours to hotel stay matters. I speak some French but even without using it the staff could not have been more gracious. Even in the relatively friendly confines of southern France, I still encountered rude tourist professionals elsewhere in the city, so the hotel staff here deserve kudos for their attitude.

The morning breakfast was mostly continental type items, although I could live on the chocolate croissants and cheese and die happy. The hotel took in a lot of "wholesale" business -- during our stay it was Japanese tourists -- which created a lot of foot traffic in the lobby. However, for breakfast, the tour groups ate in a separate room.

Overall, if the general elements of the hotel remain today as it did when I stayed in late 2009 (hence, my review was deleted by TripAdvisor upon the hotel flag change), I would recommend staying here. Rather than pay 250 Euro for a mediocre hotel in the center of Avignon, stay in the outskirts and save your money for food and the expensive TGV tickets.

Room Tip: There aren't any great view rooms so just try to pick one that meets your general preferences...
