“A great experience”
Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed here one week during the festival and we were welcomed by the Mrs Sabine who immediately made us feel at home. She was interested in what we were planning to do and what we had done the previosu day and we were given a lot of great ideas for both lunch, dinner or visits in and around Avignon. Every morning a tasteful breakfast was served in the upper room full of personal memories and a beautiful view of the Palais des Papes.
The excellent location of the Chambre d'Hôtes gave it that little extra.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sabine's charming home. In spite of unusually hot weather at the end of June, our room was comfortable, even without air conditioning (thanks to a large fan). We stayed in the Ambrogiani room, upstairs at the back of the house. It is spacious, clean, quiet...and decorated with an eclectic exuberance, just like the rest of this gorgeous home. Yes, the stairs might be hard to negotiate with large suitcases--so, travel light! This slight inconvenience is worth it, as staying with the gracious and knowledgeable Sabine is an experience you won't forget. She is fluent in at least four languages, has traveled and lived all over the world and is willing to take the time to share her stories or help you with any travel issues. Chatting with her over a breakfast of fresh fruit, breads and pastries on the terrace was a delight; I hope we meet her again during our travels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back if noise bothers you.

The location is amazing, so close to everything ... Sites, restaurants and shops, nestled in historical Avignon.
Room spacious and clean and decorated in the colors of Provence.
Our dinner on our arrival night, on the terrace was delicious! And breakfasts so good!
The best part of all is Sabine (owner) a true treasure who gathers you in and helps with any questions or requests one has, we miss her warmth and wonderful sense of humor.
Her team of Madeline and Michelle are great!
We would love to return and will tell our friends about this unique place.

Staying with Sabine in her lovely home will provide the traveler with the total southern France experience. From the moment you enter her gracious home you will be flooded with the colors of Provence and the treasures she has collected from her very rich and interesting life. Exquisitely decorated throughout, her porch overlooking the Palais des Papes was our favorite. Be sure to save time for lounging and talking to Sabine about her experiences. Sabine is also a worderful travel advisor. She recommended side trips, help with plans, and made us dinner reservations. Much more than we expected! We loved it, hope we can return, and will send others along for the experience.

L'Ombre du Palais is certainly well-named. It's location is great. The interior reflects the tastes and preference of its owner, the wonderful Sabine. We were in a bedroom done out in orange and red (!) and full of interesting touches. Comfortable king-size bed (like that), small but functional en-suite. Sabine is there to ensure your stay meets or exceeds your expectations without being intrusive. The afternoon aperitif is a nice touch. Madelaine also contributed to a wonderful stay by providing a fully sufficient breakfast and ensuring our rooms were kept clean and tidy. And to round it out we used the services of Sabine's friend Michelle to be our driver and guide for three of our 5-day stay and we were more than satisfied with her services too.

Sabine is simply wonderful! From the moment she opens her front door and greets you, to the moment you leave. She is caring, generous, interesting and a beyond all a great hostess.
You feel like a family member visiting, she and Madeline really make you feel at home in L'Ombre du Palais, Thank you for everything! The best dinner suggestions, the conversation, the lovely orientation to the city and how can I forget... the Rose' :)
The room was fantastic and provided all needed amenities, however if all the rooms are booked next time I'm in town, Sabine I would be happy to sleep on your terrace. (or the apartment in Paris)

You cannot find a better place to stay. Our hostess, Sabine, is the sweetest, happiest person that made us feel so welcome. She treated us "better than family". I hated to leave. This B&B is very clean, the breakfast was continental and good. She makes the best apricot jam. Breads were delicious, nothing like in the states. Her helper, Madeline, was a delight and very efficient. Sabine went out of her way to make arrangements for train and bus schedules, as well as directions. She suggested places to visit which were great. Her suggestions included the days to go because of special market days. She was very, very knowledgeable. She suggested places to eat that were great but not too expensive. If we ever get another opportunity to visit Avignon, we would not stay anywhere else. The location is excellent and safe.
