Avignon Walking Tour Including Skip-the-Line...
Reviewed 27 July 2014

July is arts Festival time in Avignon, and Place de l'Horologe is teeming with actors, musicians, acrobats etc all promoting their up-coming performances.... the place is buzzing!

The restaurants around the square are busy too, making hay while the sun shines. I'd love to come back off-season and see it as the locals do. I'll bet the restaurant prices would be better value. We mostly ate in the streets behind the Hotel de Ville, much quieter and better quality for only a marginal extra price.

The clock for which the square is named...is not on the square but a few blocks away. This is a great spot to dine at a sidewalk cafe and people watch...happening place!

Central and a nice place to meet.
Restaurants around Place mediocre at best.
Colorful carousel in center. I noticed that there did not seem to be too much of a concern re: lawsuits - there were no guardrails or fences around the carousel. That was refreshing.

We were on a walking tour and the guide took us down all the little streets, eventually going through this square to take us to the best spot to see the clock. It struck ten but the models no longer move.
It felt like ti was a place that belonged to the locals even thought the tourist crowds roamed through.
Shady trees over the street side restaurants where you could take a break from sight seeing.

In the very centre of Avignon, at the top of rue de Republique and below the Palais des Papes, this is the heart-beat of the city. There are dozens of cafes here with shaded terraces, offerring welcome respite after shopping on the Rue or sightseeing uptown. Great place for drinks and people-watching, but dining is better in the smaller surrounding streets. Don't worry, they all have the same menus and prices, so find one that appeals and just relax a while!
