I have mixed feelings about La Baie Doree which feels like it hasn't been changed since 1975. It's directly on the water with its own sun beds and pool (no real beach but who cares) with pleasant-enough food. Guests get priority choice for the beds One is paying a premium price for being on the water which isn't reflected in the quality of the rooms and amenities. It's a very basic (yet charming and comfortable) room - no lush finishes, fancy lighting, bedding, towels, or soaps. The parking is free as is the very modest Continental breakfast. The front desk is not always staffed, but there's a buzzer that calls help when needed. We had a very relaxing and pleasant stay, but we felt we stepped back into time based on the decor and vibe at the hotel. Nevertheless, we found this quirky hotel with wonderful service and employees charming and endearing. We'd visit again, but manage our expectations when it comes to the room. It would be great if the rooms and decor reflected that it's 2013 since it's billed as a luxury hotel.

By Godson Philip and I just returned to NYC after staying here for 5 days. I had stayed here before but it was much improved from what I remembered. We had an amazing room very spacious facing the Sea with a balcony where we had our breakfast and later in the day, Rose wine and cheese before going to dine. The platform where one sunbathed, as well as the sports center, were enjoyed by all. The food in this hotel is very very good and we partook quite often. The staff is most helpful and it is so nice being able to have a private parking area for your car. The location of this hotel is amazing and an easy drive to all the best restaurants as well as Vielle Antibes. I look forward to returning next year for another enjoyable holiday in the South of France.

Room Tip: Ask for largest room available facing the sea Corner suites for example

Looking at the previous review, upgrades seem to be a speciality of this excellent hotel, particularly out of season when they have spare rooms and suites available. We were upgraded on arrival to Suite 8 on the upper floor for no reason other than goodwill and a desire to go the extra kilometre. The suite was spacious and clean with a power shower to die for. Water was provided in the mini-bar every day. Continental breakfast was included in our package but costs 20 euros if not included. It consists of a pot of plain yoghourt, a basket of bread, two croissants and a pain au chocolat with two small pots of delicious jam plus cafe au lait or tea. You can buy omelettes and scrambled egg as extras. Limited children's cereals (such as CocoPops) are available as extra. Breakfast is taken on the spacious outside terrace which has the same view as the rooms. The spa consists of a small internal pool and jacuzzi with towels provided. Garoupe beach is visible from the hotel and is a pleasant 10 minute walk away. It has several cafes and restaurants suitable for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a busy sandy beach. There can be quite a bit of noise at weekends from Garoupe beach until about 2AM and the flight path into Nice Airport is close to this side of the Cap d'Antibes, so if you are a light sleeper, this may not be ideal for you. The staff were all great and the location is superb, so very much recommended.

Room Tip: All room are air conditioned with double glazing and shutters. Most have sea views but the higher th...

When we arrived, the woman who I think was the owner was dealing with an unpleasant guest who was complaining about the size of their room. She was trying her hardest to help resolve his issue but he was inconsolable. When it came to our turn to check in, she was visibly frustrated and looked at us as though we were just going to be another annoying American couple for her to deal with. She rolled her eyes and asked if she could help us. We replied in French and said that we were there to check in. Her demeanor changed and she became warm and welcoming and willing to do anything in her power to make us at home. She spoke English and apologized for the previous guest then took us to our room which was upgraded at no additional charge. It was still small but big enough for us to be comfortable in. We had a queen bed and a balcony with a small table and 2 chairs to gaze out at the water. Just beautiful.

The food at the restaurant was spectacular. Everything was amazing. The chef even gave us his friend's name in Antibes where we could go and buy foie gras to take home with us. We visited his store and he spoke no English but when we told him Chef Christophe sent us, he jumped out from behind the counter and helped us spend quite a lot of money in his store. To say thank you for our purchase, he even threw in a few freebies which we took back to the hotel and gave to the chef and our amazing waitress to share between them. Oh I wish I could remember her name. She was so so good to us. Everyone was.

Lazy Americans Everywhere - You don't have to be fluent but you do have to try. When travelling to a foreign country, it pays to try to learn and appreciate the culture you are visiting. We studied French for several months before taking our 3 week long trip around France and it paid off everywhere we went. French people are extremely friendly and accommodating if you don't give them a reason not to be (double negative but it's perfectly true).

Room Tip: Learn a little bit of French and be nice.

I stay here every year when I attend a business conference.I have stayed here for five years straight. It is right on the water with fabulous views of the Mediterranean and the very lovely bay on Cap D'Antibes known as La Garoupe. The staff are the nicest people I have ever encountered in a hotel. They are genuinely warm and friendly (not put-on friendly). We always stay in the same room, which has a beautiful terrace right on the water. A truly exceptional little place.

Room Tip: I am not sharing my room preference because I want it to be available to me (or at least give me goo...

We treated ourselves to one night here and we weren't disappointed. We were made very welcome by the desk and had a beautiful room with 2 sides overlooking the ocean. The private deck chair area is very comfortable and the lunch menu on the deck is great. This place is all about location and it's un beatable. We ate in the restuarant in the evening and had a lovely meal again with great service. There is a family run feeling to the place that made us feel very comfortable where as sometimes in 5 star we feel out of place, we just wished that we could have stayed longer.

This is a surprisingly lovely more casual hotel. It may not compare to major five stars in the area, however - it is a treat and delight. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The location is one of the best in the area, straight onto La Garoupe beach. The rooms are perhaps dated, but serve their purpose and are roomy and most have a lovely uninterrupted view of the beach. Who could ask for more. Having stayed at places like Du Cap, Ballieu, Royal Riveria, there was something relaxing and comforting about this hotel and you don't have to worry about how you look or who's who. We thoroughly enjoyed a day at La Baie Doree and would recommend this hotel. At least they can cope with peak season, other major hotels in the area were struggling and unable to deliver. Sometimes it's all about the service.

Room Tip: Easy going relaxed hotel.
