“Good as a local budget hotel”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

We had quite a good experience with le Ponteil hotel. Coming from the Northern Europe, the prices seemed to us somewhat too high for the quality of rooms, but it turned out to be pretty much in tune with overall local level. Le Ponteil is a villa and has more of B&B / boutique atmosphere, surrounded by big pine trees, situated in a quiet residential area, 2 min walking distance from beaches and about 10 min from the city centre. Quite cosy if you disregard cheap furniture, old carpets and some oddities in some rooms ( we saw 3 and they all were different). For the rest rooms and bathrooms are in perfect order and clean. People runnning the place are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is basic: fresh baguette, croissants, hotel packeged butter, jam and even cheese (disappontingly), yogurt, drinks. Beware of somewhat too short beds, people higher than 180 cm are likely to feel uncomfortable.

Room Tip: Ask about room sizes and conditioners if you travel in hot season

Thank you for your advise, yes in France the "normal" double bed it's 1.90mL x 1.40mW.

You understand something very well, that we are in the second town of Côte d'azur, and close to the sea, but quiet, we have a parking, a terrace, free wifi, well, our prices in this region are normal.

All the rooms are different because we are a Provençal Villa of 1920 and each room is differently decorated.

We hope to welcome you again, soon, and you can "try" an other room :-)

We have just returned from a 5 night break in this cute typically french hotel. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were lovely, fresh bread and pastries each day.The room was spotless, lovely comfortable bed and had a quiet balcony. The location was excellent being less than five minutes walk to the beach. Tables and chairs in the garden, free car parking. Overall good value for this area. This was our second visit and we hope to return next year.

Room Tip: Rooms 6 and 7 have balcony.

Very good location, you can walk to two beaches in less than five minutes and reach the old town in the same time. The owner Pascal is very helpful and can give you information about restaurants, the town and close touristic attractions.

Some rooms are pretty small while others are a bit bigger. Cleanness is OK for this level of hotel. There is no air conditioning, which becomes uncomfortable when it's hot outside. The TVs are very small and pretty far, there are no good programs or the signal is lost sometime, so it's practically unusable.

As I have to stay constantly in email contact with my customers, internet was essential for me but it is intermittent and very often non-existent. I had to stay in the bathroom with my phone to get some signal or walk around to get signal.

The breakfast was the same every day and it is not a continental breakfast as advertised but French breakfast instead: a croissant, bread (the worst French bread I've tasted), butter, a small glass of juice and some coffee. There are no eggs, serials, a choice of cheese (although there was a piece of cheese per person), milk, fruit or similar. If possible I would suggest avoiding breakfast in the hotel and spending the money on better breakfast in the nearby town.

You cannot eat in the hotel (except the breakfast) and you cannot even get a coffee, which was disappointing.

There is a kind of garden with tables but as there is nothing to get to eat and there is no view, it is not a very attractive place to stay.

Thank you for the compliments, we receive our customers as we would like to be received.
As we say it every time, we are a Provençal villa of 1920 and rooms were adapted to the villa and not the opposite. Thus some are small, others are big. That is why our television which are of a standard size hotel, are not the large screen.

Unfortunately since France passed in the TNT(NUMERICAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION) we have problem in few regions to receive clearly the programs, we have in the hotel three amplifiers, but the meteo factors, and power transmitter have an impact which we cannot master much to our regret, but on 19 channels there are always some which work better than the others, we have to decide to offer to our customers of the foreign channels , passing by a satellite system, the weather report can modify the reception. But the programs we can't do anything about it it is the French TV :-(

For the air conditionings we equipped the hottest rooms, the others are with ventilators, because we cannot install of engines on main walls (not beautiful) and goshawk for all the hotel (too noisy) and it would be necessary to make holes in all the walls to be able to cross all the pipes, along main walls (still not beautiful)

We have three WiFi points, free, but if you have a phone the quality of reception can be low, it works in both directions to transmitter / receiver, and we test all the points with a computer. Once again we are an old house with walls sometimes a little bit thick.

The continental breakfast it is the French breakfast, we suggest you 1/2 fresh day "baguette" (bakery changed since), a fresh different day croissants and similar products on 4 days, some butter, different jams on 3 days, a choice of 4 fruit juices renewing, at will hot drink (coffee, milk, 8 sorts of tea, 2 sorts of chocolate), a small different cheese on 5 days, a yaourth, all this served, if it makes the beautiful and hot outside on the terrace, otherwise inside. We closed our restaurant in 2007 but during the day on the terrace you can order soft drinks even a coffee yes yes :-)
I doubt whom outside you are also quiet, that the price is the same for the quantity, especially if you want another coffee or other, and than the choice is varied, unless you go to one 4 stars close by (but the price...).

To finish we are not an hotel with "view" but an hotel in the peace just next to the sea and to the old town.

Sorry it's long thank you for taking time to read to me.

We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed the location and breakfasts . We had not previously booked so stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay as they were heavily booked . The two rooms we had were clean & very tiny . The bathroom was outside on both occasions . This was not a problem . The breakfast were very good and set in a very nice atmosphere . The hosts were extremely helpful and kind.
The property is in a quiet lane way and only a 5 to 10 minute walk into town . Good wifi both in the rooms and the breakfast dining room .

We stayed in Le Ponteil one night - our first night in France, and our impression of the place was mixed. On the plus side, its location is great - very close both to the old town and to the beach. The owner of the hotel is very friendly, helpful and kind of easy going. There is a parking in the garden which is very important for those who're travelling by car in a town like Antibes. However, the downside was a room, which, although clean and tidy, was very small and according to what we understood from the owner this was not even the smallest double he had! We felt claustrophobic in this room. It was OK for one night, but we wouldn't stay there for longer.

It is true that we have rooms of all the sizes, small or big, even family for 5, but we try to adapt the room, to the stay, that is why to pay a higher price just to spend one night thus a few hours in the room, to have the same quality of service.
Thus generally we propose at first the cheapest for night or two thus the smallest. We have many persons who stay between one and two weeks and we must be able to propose them more space.

Thank you we hope to welcome you a next time with an other room.

I love Antibes, but even more Le Ponteil.

The last three times that we have travelled from Spain to Italy we have found the time to spend at least two nights there.

I still thinking about the fresh baked baguettes, the marmalades, croissants and orange juice under the pine trees shades.

Location is perfect as you can park the car inside and walk to the beach and to Antibes old town.

Can’t wait to go back my my agenda is to hectic now!
