“A lovely experience, lovely hotel, charming host”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2009

My sister and I stayed at the Marcellin (we actually were renting an apartment which was not available until the day after our arrival) and were delighted. Mr. Henri, the owner/host, was charming and helpful and the hotel is quiet and well-situated Beaulieu. The only meal offered is breakfast which was delicious -- excellent coffee, juice, breads and condiments. The room was excellent -- a really good bed, well appointed, immaculate bathroom and comfortable and pretty furnishings. It is also an excellent value. Highly recommended.

I advice Marcelin to people who want to spend the "right" in the French Riviera, and in the meanwhile enjoy their vacations, staying in a clean hotel, quiet, with very kind and pleasant managers to assist clients.

We (three adults) stayed in this hotel for three nights in late September.
Our room was on the second floor (no lift) but this appears to be the norm in Europe.
Breakfast was either in the lovely area downstairs or outside if the weather was fine. Very nice breakfast of coffee, rolls, butter and jams.
Free parking was in the street (one way) if available. Not a heavily used street so noise was not a problem
The host was very pleasant but spoke limited English.
A bakery, supermarket, pubs and restaurants were close by and a short walk took you directly to the beach. Very safe at night to walk around. Monaco and Nice were very close by. Beaulieu is a good base for exploring the Cote d'Azur and Hotel Marcellin at E75 a night was excellent value for money.

This is an ideal place to base yourself for exploring the Cote d'Azur.

The hotel itself is very clean, and we had a corner room with plenty of space. I booked via their website and requested the green room, which they were able to provide, and it was quiet (even though it was on the corner of the main street).

We chose not to take breakfast (at E8.50) but instead had coffee and croissants most mornings at the cafes just down the road. There is also a nice market in the square where you can get fresh fruit and veges, and we did baguettes for ourselves a couple of times for lunch.

Beaulieu is a very quiet town, but as it is less than 15 minute's drive/train trip from Nice, is a far less expensive option than the city, or indeed places like Villefranche. Of course, that does limit your choice of dinner options if you want to walk somewhere, as the marina is pretty much all there is in Beaulieu (10 minute's walk from the hotel). But there are about 8-10 restaurants from which to choose, and we had pretty good food at the couple we ate at.

Our nicest meal, however, was from the pizza place just around the corner from the hotel on the main road, which we took back to our room. Yumm!

There is no parking at the property, but we managed to find car spots on the street on all four evenings (albeit, it always seemed to be the very last one!) within a block of the hotel.

The only other slight drawback is that the friendly owners have very limited English, but it is still better than my French, so we managed to communicate the basics!

The hotel is great value for this part of the world, and we would definitely stay here again.

The rooms and bathroom are of good size and very clean. The staff at the reception were very helpful and nice. The nearest beach can be reached on foot after a 7-minute walk. The only downside was that the room facing the main street was quite noisy at night. Overall, the hotel provides good value for money.

Good location. Easy to find on wide street, old building with street parking out front, owner had "saved' a place for our car. Renovated room, spotlessly clean. Very modern new white tile bath, small but very nice. Good plumbing. Charming provencial fabrics in the rooms, decorated with care! The delightful owner and wife were very kind and most helpful. Continental breakfast in the lobby restaurant. This room was better than most of the three star hotels that we had stayed in.
A great value.

We stayed there, a young couple in their mid thirties and my husband's parents who are retired. Although we had a room with no view - the last rooms available due to a tennis tournament in the area i.e. you look at the inside 'courtyard' (basically, the internal space for the pipes system), we were really impressed by the quality of the rooms - clean and nicely decorated, good size, air conditionning - the bathroom - good size, full bath and brand new, and the service.

Beaulieu is an upmarket, tranquil place, with a stunning coastal walk to nearby St Jean cap Ferrat. Accoommodation there is usually pricey. I would go back to this hotel and recommend it to anyone.
