“A wonderful start to our trip”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Le Cagnard lived up to its reputation. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Laura came to pick us up from the automatic parking le Planestel and take us by very narrow roads to the hotel. Do not try to do this yourself. It would have been better to leave the hire car in the car park Sainte Luce which is not too far away. Le Planestel cost us 19 euros to leave the car overnight compared with 6.60 euros in Sainte Luce.
Our room, Cossetini, was very comfortable. It had TV, safe, coffee machine, fridge and sundry nibbles. You can see it and the bathroom for yourself in the traveller's photos. The bedlinen was clean and crisp, the towels thick and fluffy.
We ate each of the two nights of our stay in the hotel restaurant, which was elegant. The food was first class. The breakfast was a veritable feast.
The village needs to be explored on foot. There is lots to see and to enjoy. We especially liked sitting in the sun at one of several cafes on the Place Grimaldi and enjoying a drink, whilst we people watched.
At the end of our stay, Gregory took us down to the car park to collect the car and then led us through the town to the start of the motorway, for which we were extremely grateful. We had the impression that nothing was too much trouble or us as guests.
I should love to go back again and can thoroughly recommend it.

We arrived at the Hotel at 10 pm from Nice Airport and as other reviews noted the streets to the Castle are narrow. We were greeted by Gregory and he showed us to our upgraded suite - Chapel Klien, which had its own private access and a gorgeous balcony and view of the riveria (which we were to find out in the morning).

We ate in the square in La Village, the owner asked were we the guests that were delayed and even though they were finished serving food she put together a delicious chautucerie board for us.

The service, room, views and surrounds of the hotel were all amazing and we would certainly return here.

Tips - do not take a taxi from Nice airport to the hotel as we were charged €50 and thought it was a scam but when we rang the hotel they said that was a normal price. I would recommend that the hotel notes this and recommends that people take the bus from Nice airport to St Augustin station and get off at Cagnes Sur Mer station where they can then avail of the 44 bus which brings you right up to the hotel.

Also, as the hotel is up a steep hill, but well worth it for the views, I would recommend that the hotel considers arranging its own transfer for guests in the morning (hourly from 9-11) and in the evening (hourly from 5-8).

The receptionist kindly took us to the train station when we checked out and I think they do this frequently.

All in all we had a wonderful stay in this magical hotel!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Klien Room which had a beautiful balcony and its own private access, it was very sp...

The staff at Chateau Le Cagnard could not have been more wonderful. They went out of their way to accommodate us in every way possible. From quickly picking us up at the parking lot, to giving us a glass of wine in the evening, to helping us plan our travel day, everyone was great. We had a fabulous room with a large terrace with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Great day trips to Antibes, Eze, and St. Maxime. The town combined medieval charm with modern restaurants, art galleries, and places to explore. We would definitely return.

My husband and I stayed at Chateau Le Cagnard 5 nights in Dec/Jan and were very happy that we did so.
The place oozes with charm, character and beauty. We stayed in a junior suit and it was every thing we could ask for and more. It was a large room with a sitting room and a beautiful bathroom that had a window to the alleys of this amazing village. We had a small balcony with a stunning view that stretched out to the sea. The breakfast was good even though we only made it twice because we slept in like a baby on the comfy beds. something we never do at home.
We had New Year's eve dinner at the restaurant and it was very good with excellent service.
The staff is very helpful and speak good English.
The village is so charming with those narrow roads it is something out of fairy tale book.

Haut de Cagnes is a tiny hilltop medieval village, just a short distance from the coast and Cagnes sur Mer - a 15 minute drive to Nice or Cannes areas,

The hotel is small, with a caring team who will do anything for you, The large suite is a great option with a large panoramic terrace. The quality of the restaurant is very good, and the tiny village has a few very good simple/less simple choices.

This is a small family property so don't expect deluxe options - check out the options before arriving, ask for information, and you will find the reception ladies are very anxious to make your stay as good as it gets. They made a number of errors with our reservation so just make certain you ask questions. The comment from a guest who had to carry his bags is an example - they should have been advised when making the reservation about the pick up service.

The drive from the village up to the hotel is hairy/scary and ONLY possible with a car that is less than 1.8 mts. So DONT just drive - call the hotel reception before you attempt to turn into the narrow one car streets with merely centimeters clearance. Or if arriving by taxi call the hotel to meet you as taxis cannot access the narrow streets. If you have a car, you can leave it in the lower village and the hotel will come and collect you.

This is all a part of the experience of staying in a tiny medieval village. There's a castle and a small town square, with restaurants facing the vista - many are closed in winter but we found a choice of 4 open - all very good with friendly owners anxious to please. Simplest of all, Gourmand was great for pizzas and a choice of cooked meals.

In short, we had a lovely stay and minor mishaps aside, would heartily recommend Le Cagnard.

Room Tip: The largest suite is a great option - making this a special experience
