If you haven't checked up on this restaurant before you go, you'll probably just pass by without seeing it - the entrance is very discrete. Don't let that happen!

We were there off season and popped in early without a reservation. Lucilly enough we were offered a table. Since we weren't too hungry, we choose one of the simple (30€?) menues. The food was excellent, close to Micheelin class I would say, and we had a couple of good (not too cheap :-) glasees of wine to it. Th service was proffessional but yet informal. We'll be back.

The choice of a good restaurant in Cannes might be troublesome if You want to escape the classic French Riviera cliché. Strolling along the Suquet (the Old City) you will find plenty of them but, despite they may look different, their offer is basically the same: fois gras and canard on the earth menu, and (obviously) "soup de poisson" and oysters on the sea side. Mid-way along Rue Saint Antoine do not miss "Mantel"; situated in a discrete corner, it may be uneasy to detect at first sight. The maitre d', Demetrio, is a multilingual expert, able to drive you amidst the secrets of an amazing blend between french and north-italian cuisine.
Do not miss for example the "risotto", and especially the home-made desserts. They also cook their own bread, and the wine list is exciting. The price is slightly higher than the surrounding places, but the quality is incomparable. A sure hit!

Products where ok but cooking and combinations where not great.
Small cup of soup as pre-appetizer . For dessert just a trolley with uninteresting pastries . Nothing with the coffee . Poor for its price.

Went there on a fairly quiet Tuesday night with a couple of business associates. I opted for the salad starter and the veal main course and both were delicious. I’d go there again, no question about that. Also, just want to mention a good recommendation for a local red wine, very reasonably priced. This is the 2009 Domaine Richeaume, Cuvée Columelle.

I have been on a couple of occasions and both times received excellent friendly service and unusual food. The door is usually, off puttingly, closed but do venture in! The lunch time menus are more affordable ,offering in my view excellent value for money for this type of restaurant. It is to be found about half way up Rue St. Antoine ("le suquet") on the right and with its linen table cloths, reasonably priced house wine and willingness to serve "tap water" helps it stand out from the other restaurants in the alley, some of whom have started to come out asking you to come in - never a good sign!
