“Modern Posh Hotel in Great Location”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

Stayed here in Sep 2012 and overall found the hotel as the name suggests 5*. Perfect location 2mins from beach front, film festival, main shopping street, most bars and restuarants, 5mins from port and train station and 15mins from main harbour. The hotel staff were excellent we arrived early at 11:00 and straight away we had a drink in our hands and our cases were taken for us until the room was ready. They then asked us if we would like some breakfast as they were still serving and said they would call us when the room was ready. The breakfast was first clas they cook what you want from fresh and you then have the choice of the traditional continental breakfast. The hotel has a pool on the roof which was empty every time we went to use it and was very peaceful and relaxing. Our room was a decent size with a massive bath and shower. We could not get out of the bed it was so comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. The service we recieved was probably a little bit over kill as they knock each evening and ask if you want your sheets turned down it make it easier to get into bed! We took the train from Nice airport as it runs right along the coast and has some lovely views and is only a short walk to the hotel. The spa is not great so don't expect big things of this - the gym is also rather small. Would stay here again for sure as the location, service, room, breakfast and swimming pool are perfect.

A few weeks ago, my family and I vacationed in Cannes for the first time. This was not out first European trip but it was our first Cannes adventure. We chose the hotel for a few reasons, location to the beach, shopping, restaurants and also by reputation. We were delighted immediately with the people at reception; they were friendly, and very kind to us. The rooms were elegantly styled and perfect for a 5* hotel. Great decor and overall ambience, it really is beautifully decorated. The day we spent at the pool was just perfect. We arrived on a Friday and that evening we decided to have a meal in the restaurant; while the food was great, the service was horrible. The greeter was disagreeable, her English was pretty bad and we waited a very long time for our food. The next day at breakfast we were worried that the service would be a repeat of the previous evening and to our surprise, it was fantastic. We had a friendly waiter who really helped us out and even gave us extra tips on things to do in town for visitors with children. The next day we were disappointed the same waiter wasn’t there as his replacement wasn’t as friendly or well spoken in English. I guess we should not judge our opinions on comments from other hotel visitors but it seems like the service is always behind everything else. Over all, great hotel, wonderful experience for our children and we will come back if given the opportunity.

Beautiful boutique hotel. The rooms are comfortable and of very high standard. The beds are a dream, the shower fantastic. Great staff, very professional and polite. Welcoming children!!! Stayed in many hotels and have to say, the breakfast is one of the top we had... The kids loved the crepes and the cookies... What to say, many hotels should take example. A smile is free and makes all the difference. Bravo and see you soon...

My husband and I booked this hotel for a couple nights in August 2012. We were both fairly disappointed in it and wished that we had chosen to stay somewhere else for our time in Cannes. It was generally ok but the service we experienced was not great. We also did not like the decor and ambience of the hotel but I suppose it just did not suit our personal taste.

When we arrived by car, I had to get out the car and move a heavy valet parking board to be able to park the car in front of the hotel for the valet. No welcome drink on check in. We arrived early and was told the room would not be ready until 3pm - fair enough.

We decided to go to bar for a drink. The bar staff greeted us in friendly enough manner but then failed to bring over a drinks menu. The bar was not especially busy, in the end we got up and left.

The pool area is small and was busy. I liked the roof top area but they play birdsong on loop, it got a bit annoying in the end. The hotel seem to like background noise at all times, ambient music was played in all public areas.

We did like the room. It was a good size, clean and comfortable. They provide free coffee but charge 7 euros for tea bags from the mini bar! Good shower in the bathroom and nice toiletries.

One high point was breakfast. The service was good and breakfast enjoyable.

Overall, a disappointing stay and I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience on stay. There must be better options.

I spent 4 wonderful nights at Five. From making the booking through to the departure, the staff made it a very warm experience. Nothing was a problem... ever. The position is great and the interior design of the hotel is cool. The only negative is that the gym is tiny (if that is important to you). This hotel was a pleasant surprise as you weren't surrounded by the the Black Amex carrying type that ruin most high-end hotels with their ostentatious tastes and overbearing presence; just those that appreciate the good things in life.I look forward to returning

My wife and I along with two other couples stayed at Hotel Five in early August of 2012. All three couples are Amex Black Card carrying members with a lot of travel experience including stays at fine hotels all over the world. At first we were impressed with the modern look but then we started to realize that this hotel can be described as a nerd given an extreme makeover. At first he looks like a cool dude but after you speak to him for a while, his real personality comes out.

- The rooms are small
- They overcharge for what the hotel is
- The rooms have cheap furniture (our vanity wasn't even bolted to the wall)
- Everything is for sale (literally, you can buy the desk in your room if you want)
- They nickel and dime you to death
- The food/bar service at the pool was SLOW. We kept walking to the bar to get our own drinks.
- There is NO view - it's situated behind a building
- Of the three couples, two had problems with no water pressure and a leaking shower

However, the biggest problem was at checkout. Because we each booked our own rooms we realized we were charged three different rates for the same size rooms. The rates ranged from $400 euros to $950 euros per night. The hotel wasn't willing to comprise on the price as the six of us were standing there disputing it at checkout.

I would HIGHLY recommend not staying here. Their quality and service definitely do NOT live up to the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts that we're use to staying at. We toured the Carlton while we were there. The Carlton is THE hotel to stay at. It was much fancier with a fantastic looking lobby and it was right on the water with beach access.

Enjoy Cannes!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel. If you have to stay here only room 601 has a view.

This really is a superb "uber-chic" Hotel in the centre of beach front Cannes, just where you would want to be. We stayed 5 nights & didn’t want to leave.
We hoped for an early check-in & arrived early... but this is peak season. Our valuables were stored, beach towels given, beach restaurant & sun beds kindly booked by the Concierge & so we set off for the day map in hand.
We returned late afternoon & our bags were in the spacious deluxe room which we were delighted with, a dressing room, separate toilet, superb bathroom, hugh very comfortable double bed, desk, large great TV, music system, coffee machine etc. I would normally moan about having no separate shower but everything was like new & high end quality.
The breakfasts were GREAT with everything you could want. We booked the Gourmet package & had our best meal here in Cannes with some splendid wines recommended by the charming wine waiter "Sandray?".
The roof top pool is a feast to the eye but not really practical for a proper swim set but within a stones throw you have the sea for this.
All the staff were great they could not do enough for you, even the friendly bell-boy took the trouble to ask his father-in-law for a good place for us to cycle too. And it was great. All the staff seemed to want to go that extra mile to ensure you had a wonderful stay.
A late check-out was not possible but noon isn’t bad. We were being picked up at 1830 so had a shower in the wonderful spa which our friend raved most favourably on about.
Maybe I could mention the small gym with only 1 running & 1 cycling machine but please don't be put off as this is a FAB Hotel.
This is not some old large stuffy Hotel living off past long gone glory days. This friendly place is uber stylish, very slick & ultra chic.
