“The nicest people in France!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

Hotel America in Cannes is named as such because the owner lived in the U.S. and has an American-born daughter. My wife and I appeared to be the only Americans actually staying there over a long weekend in July 2012.
We stayed in what they call a junior suite which means a large room (the couch may have been a pull-out bed, I forgot to check). It was well appointed, had a large comfortable bed ,and was on the most quiet side of the hotel (overlooking the Rue Nôtre-Dame - the other side, overlooking the Rue Saint-Honoré, can be noisy when an adjacent large hotel's personnel dump the previous evening's bottles into the containers). We did not see a standard room so have no idea about its size.
The breakfast buffet is fairly basic but adequate - however, the serving ladies are so nice and helpful that you have the impression you're in a 5-star hotel. In fact, every single member of the staff was nothing short of charming, helpful, and as nice as anyone we've ever met in France. They all appear to be locals.
The hotel is very well located being minutes' walk from the Croisette, the convention center, one of the yacht harbors, the beaches, and the main restaurant strip between the convention center and the Town Hall where you'll find the best seafood restaurants.
We found the room prices to be very reasonable for the place and high season. My only tiny complaint is that they seem to want to charge for every little extra such as wifi and even printing airline boarding passes. But, I've written them about this aspect encouraging them to drop this policy since it leaves the wrong impression in exchange for truly insignificant revenue.
A great little hotel to which we shall return for our next stay in Cannes.

Room Tip: Ask for the Rue Nôtre-Dame side.

We were four people had two doubleroom for 5 nights. The rooms seem to be of various size. Our rooms were quite small, smaller than normal average size in Europe. Our rooms were located in the middle of the building (room numbers end with 12 and 14). It looks like the rooms on both sides of ours were larger. The bathroom was very good, enough space and very clean and bright. The beds were very good. The staff was very nice and serviceminded. The location was excellent, 2 min from the beach and in the middle of the shopping area.
One minus, there was no free internet from the rooms, it cost 8 Euro pr day. It was free internet from a pc in the lobby.
Overall a very good and nice hotel. No problem to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had room nr 312 and 314. I think roomnumbers that ends with 12 and 14 are the smalest ones.

Basic hotel.
Very, Very Clean - The daily room service was Amazing, the maid deserves a pay rise!
The room was small, but sufficent, had TV with limited chanels, Air Con, Mini Bar etc.
The location is superb, one row back from the beach (La Croisette)
The staff spoke fantastic English and were so helpful.

We took a number 210 shuttle bus from Nice airport (€25 pp return) It took us too the main road, by the port, so a 5 minute walk to the hotel (Head for Hotel Majestic which is on the sea front, and Hotel America is behind it)
We travelled to Monaco via train from Cannes (€16 pp return) The train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Cannes itself is beautiful, lots of places to eat, drink and shop and stunning beaches both Private and public.
Overall a fab stay.
If I had one negative to say, I would say the decore in the hotel, especially the rooms and carpets are very dated - But that is just a personal opinion as I like the modern look!
Thank you Hotel America 10/10.

I stayed in Hote America with a friend who orgaised the whole trip, so I had little by way of expectation. However, I could not fault anything.

The staff were extremely friendly, and the hotel is fantastically central.

The rooms are not huge, but they are certainly a decent size. The beds were very comfy, the bathroom was decent, and everything was absolutely spotless.

While there was no iron/ironing board in the room, they provided one very promptly on request at reception.

We had to pay for WI-FI, but it wasnt too expensive, and there was no problem accessing it from the room

And best of all, the bus to the airport at Nice ran from a bus stop only across the road from the hotel!

My husband and I spent two nights at the hotel last week and cannot fault it at all. The staff were very helpful and plesant, and always keen to assist with directions etc. The hotel is very central to everything.

The room was a good size, the bed comfy and very clean, what more do you want when you sepnd most of your time out!!

Would highly recommend it.
