Very disappointed in what is considered one of the "Grande Dames" of the French Riveria. We stayed here many years ago prior to Hyatt ownership and the rooms were exceptional - now not so. Room had dirty carpet & faded upholstery, and molded chipped paint areas behind the curtains. Not what you would expect from a Grand Hyatt property. Public areas were nice.

We spent last weekend at the Hotel Martinez in Cannes. It appears that my husband booked a “Beach Package” via British Airways, which meant that we got all sorts of upgrades. A wonderful Buffet breakfast was included in the rate and so was free access to Z.Plage, which is the hotel’s private beach club on La Croisette.
Check in was excellent, our room was not ready on arrival but they went out of their way to give us a room to change into our beach clothes. Staff were very polite and efficient throughout our stay. We expected a Deluxe Mountain view room but we actually had a recently refurbished side sea view room. The room was very clean, spacious, well-furnished, lovely bathroom, separate toilet (I would have preferred though to also have a wash basin in the toilet).
We really liked the bar and restaurant at Z.Plage, not cheap, but you don’t expect cheap at La Croisette. We had lunch there twice and even watched World Cup football one evening listening to live Brazilian music and sampling delicious Brazilian tapas.
Wonderful weekend.

Room Tip: Sea View room

We went to the French Riviera on our honeymoon, spending nights in Nice, Monaco, and then onto Cannes. Hotel Martinez is a beautiful hotel, the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Excellent service. Loved it here. The staff surprised us with a bottle of champagne and a beautiful note congratulating us on our wedding. It was such a thoughtful gesture that we experienced no where else. Dinner in the restuarant at night is a must, very relaxing, great food and great wine. We had a beautiful few days stay here and would definitely recommend it to all our friends and collegues. Thank you Hotel Martinez for making our stay memorable.

The Martinez is one of the traditional hotels in Cannes. Positioned on the sea front, on the famous boulevard de La Croisette, the hotel has established itself over the decades as the flagship hotel on the Riviera. Its architectural beauty is renowned, but unfortunately the Hyatt, my favorite hotel group, has no respect for history or tradition. The hotel is not well-kept at all! It has old carpeting, peeling wallpaper, doors with wood cracked, elevators that break down, air conditioner that is not dependable. I guess it does not matter, because there is always a great demand for rooms in Cannes and the hotel is constantly booked. It is a shame, because it could be so much better! Even if it does not impact the business, one hopes that the CEO or some senior executive would care because of the negative impact such disregard for a historical property has on the brand and corporate reputation. If you are planning a stay there expect good service ("French style"), comfortable beds, spacious rooms, good gym, good breakfast, great location. The timeless and elegant building, on the other hand, is not getting much love from Hyatt and is slowly losing its glamour.

When I am old(er) and doddery I will be able to say that my first trip to Cannes was in the summer, under Côte d'Azur skies, where I spent a week at the Martinez in the company of good blokes and didn't have to pay!
I was in Cannes to help judge an advertising festival and in truth it was a marvelous week spent at a pretty wonderful hotel.
The Martinez is one of the famous properties located at the eastern end of La Croisette, across from the beach and within walking distance to pretty much everything in Cannes. Our room was small but adequate, with soft beds, beautiful linen, a nice bathroom and a semi separate toilet, which I prefer. Though we didn't have a view, the room was quiet and caught the morning sun.
During our visit the hotel was extremely busy, however the staff never seemed flustered or were anything but patient and pleasant when dealing with our requests for reservations, taxis, or to help with getting around.
Z Plage, the bar on the beach is a must, and though we were working, we managed an afternoon on the chaise lounges which was extremely pleasant.
OK, so where's the catch?
All this luxury costs plenty. As some of you who have read my other missives know, I am somewhat price sensitive, and found myself grinding my teeth at 22 euro cocktails and 8 euro beers. But hey, this is Cannes, you don't visit because it's cheap, and this is a fine hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view if you can
