LOCATION - Being a little detached from the old centre of Cannes, the location is still very good - on the main shopping street of Cannes and 10-15 minutes away from Palais des Festivals. You would expect that the shopping street is loud and messy surrounding, but it is almost the end of the shopping street, so it is really ok. Located on the parallell street to the main beach promenade Croisette - you can turn round the block and be at the sea side.

HOTEL - small hotel is being runned by staff in a little chaotic way and impersonal attitude, but no major complaints. The hotel has a beautiful and quiet garden with a small pool area, as well as exterior breakfast area.

ROOMS - the room was not very small and quite convenient, everything clean and comfy. Oldfashioned wooden wardrobes add some french flair to the room. The view on the beautiful old building is also nice. No noise level from the street.

BREAKFAST - the continental breakfast that is included in the price is so miserable and limited that I almost cried. But you get used to that. EUR 4 for an omlet, not so bad.

In general, for the price that you get - this is an amazing spot almost in the centre of Cannes!

During our 2 week tour of France we had decided to spend 4 days in the French Riviera and had to choose between Cannes / Nice. We are glad that we chose Cannes and Hotel Sun Riviera. Cannes is just cute, far less commercialized / populated in comparison to Nice.
After landing at Paris CDG we traveled straight to Cannes by TGV on our France Rail Pass. We reached Cannes at about 11 pm and took a cab to the hotel (about 15 Euros), next day we realized how close we were to the railway station.
Hotel Location – Close to the station, about 5-7 minutes walking distance. The hotel is situated on a beautiful shopping street Rue De Antibes. Its 5 minutes walking to the Promenade (Must Do - Late night walk / window shopping on The Promenade).
Rooms – The room and the bathroom are quite compact as expected in France, but absolutely neat and clean. In any case you are only going to sleep and the beds are comfortable. The street side rooms with a mini balcony offer an amazing view of THE BEAUTIFUL Rue De Antibes.
Breakfast Buffet – Since it’s a small (boutique) hotel be prepared for a not so lavish breakfast, just enough to start your day.
Travel - Surprisingly, travelling along the French Riviera is very cheap by bus, every time you board the bus you have to pay 1 Euro irrespective of the distance you travel (Cannes to Nice – about 2 hours); a day pass for 4 Euros. From Cannes we did day trips to St Paul de Vence, Eze, Nice and Monte Carlo.
Tip – On the day you plan to visit Nice, buy a 24 hour French Riviera Pass (you can buy at Cannes itself). At Nice, we visited the beach on Promenade des Anglais and a few places nearby and after lunch we activated our 24 hour pass which included HopOn HopOff, a 50 minute guided tour on a little tourist train from Promenade des Anglais (must do) and entry to various tourist spots. The next day we started early and used the same pass to visit the Oceanographic Museum and the famous gardens at Monte Carlo.
The entire hotel staff is very warm and welcoming and we will surely stay here whenever we return to Cannes.

Room Tip: Tour during shoulder seasons to get full value for money

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel on three separate occassions and have never been let down. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are very efficient and have always been helpful. It has a lovely landscaped garden where you will find the pool and sun loungers. Situated on the Rue d' Antibe, you are within walking distance of the shops and restaurants and the beach is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We are definately going back.

The hotel was recommended by my mother who had stayed there several times. We liked the size and decoration of the room which was at the back on the 5th floor. We also liked the location but are not sure the rate is worth the location although we didn't verify this. The staff were very freindly and helpful.
On the other hand, the air conditioning barely worked, there were no cushions for the balcony chairs (which is one of the features of the rooms) and the rooms looked a little tired (hole in a sheet, minor stains, dents etz on the walls and carpet). One feature which is really lacking for a NA traveller is that there was no tea or coffee facilities in the room!!!

I booked The Sun Riviera as it was central, looked pleasant and was to celebrate my wife's birthday. I booked the flights and the hotel for 2 nights in late September for arrival in December. Payment was taken for 1 night well in advance which I didn't mind for €173 for Privilege (Superior) Room. The day before we were due to leave the UK, I wanted to check the hotel's telephone number and noticed that less than 2 weeks after I made the booking the hotel was offering a special promotion for the same superior room for 3 nights for a total of €299 including breakfast. Since I was paying $346 plus $56 for 2 breakfasts for 2 days, my total would be $402 for only 2 nights.
I telephoned the hotel to ask whether I could have a discount since it was cheaper to stay for 3 nights on offer than the 2 nights that I had booked. I was told that the manageress was not in and she alone could agree to rebates. When we arrived I asked to see the manageress and was told she was not in until the following day but something would be done. The room had a stale smell, the bed quite old and the bathroom tiny. Not what we expected!
The following morning I asked to see the manageress but was told she was not coming in but they had put forward my request. The answer was a flat "no" to a rebate of any kind to which I replied that this was ridiculous as I could stay for longer for less. I asked to speak with the manageress but was refused.I threatened to write a report on Trip Advisor and would consider leaving and not stay a second night. We were called within 10 minutes by reception and were offered breakfast which meant that we were still paying and average rate of €173 versus €100 per night so we moved out as we were disgusted by their lack of customer care and consideration and the fact that we were only offered a miserly breakfast after making threats.
We moved out straight away and moved in to the Canberra Hotel nearby which was recently renovated and had a beautiful room reduced from €193 to €150 per night as it was low season. We would never stay at The Sun Riviera again due to their attitude and tired rooms.

We had alot of problems staying at this hotel. Our keys didn't work. We had a water problem that floooded our room. The beds are not comfortable. It is near all of the shopping and 3 blocks from the beach. The staff was not very helpful and the night staff is non-existent. It is a very small hotel. No food. No business center. No fitness center. They have tour information available, but they don't know much about them. You will wish you stayed at the Carlton.

The Sun Riviera is in a good spot in Cannes, everything of interest is within walking distance (the old town, the beach, the Palais, restaurants and cafes, shopping, casinos). The staff was friendly and the maid service was impeccable. The room itself was not huge but not cramped either. The furniture and carpet were spotless (I think they might have been brand new). The corridor outside the rooms is quite narrow so if you sleep in during the day you may hear some talking outside as other guests leave their rooms. This wasn't really an issue as this is a small hotel and the clientele is not the party-animal kind. We were in a room on the first floor with a great view of the street outside (Rue d' Antibes is great for shopping by the way). There was minimal noise coming from the street, night or day. There's also a small garden with a pool in the back, which is a treat. We rented a car and chose to park in the hotel parking lot (20 Euro per day) which was definitely worth it: we just took the elevator to our room instead of walking back after a long day. There is a public parking garage around the corner, but for the price it's definitely worth having the car in the hotel. Overall, we were very happy with our stay here and would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.
