“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

We stayed here in March 14 when we went to visit my elderly Aunt who lives up the road opposite.

The hotel was booked through one of the discount hotel websites and included breakfast. I see from other reviews that breakfast was not what they expected but maybe the hotel has listened as we got excellent breakfasts and it was nice enough to sit outside.

The duty receptionist looks after breakfast and she just kept on coming out with food. There was fruit juice, bread. coissantes of different types, yoghurts, cereal, cold meats and cheese and scrambled eggs with bacon. The teapot only had one teabag so take your own.

The rooms were well appointed with a decent bed, sufficient storage, table and chair. We were on the road side of the hotel so working air conditioning would be an advantage. I found I could only get warm air out of our system, it is possible the chiller was held off if the outside air is too low (I work in the industry). We kept the window open at night but it was quiet and therefore ok.

The rooms have a free safe and a fridge.

The bathroom was a good size with a separate toilet. The shower was on a flexible hose from the bath and clipped on the wall, hot water can take a minute or so to arrive. Caution there is nothing to hold onto when getting in and out of the bath so take care!

We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and always greeted with a smile. The bar is located behind reception but we didnot use it. Reception was always very hot.

The hotel is located at the eastern end of the Rue d'Antibes but it is only a 10 minute walk to the sea front and 15 minutes to the Palais du Congress. There are eateries in the square opposite both French and Italian but this is Cannes so nothing is cheap especially drinks bought in bars and restaurants.

Off the square to the left is a Spar supermarket and another small supermarket beyond that if you require supplies and further down still is a Monoprix and the market. The station is 5 minutes walk from the market.

Quick tip for Cannes for a snack and a glass of wine. Head for the bus station just beyond the harbour towards the castle and there you will find a number of small cabins. We have tried most of them, they are fairly cheap, friendly and can speak enough English if your French is limited.

Room Tip: If you can get a rear room they are south facing and if high enough you might be able to see the sea...

Sun Riviera was a great experience, nice hotel, clean and cozy, the only thing we suggest is not to expend 18 euros in a breakfast buffet that fit in a box, 4 pieces of jam, when finish u have to wait for another 4 piece of whatever, 4 yogourt and 4 crepes thats and some bread, ah almost forget 4 pieces of fromage, no eggs, no beans, short, we suggest to go away to take a real breakfast, if get out of the hotel to your right there are a Cafe that serve a 10 euros english breakfast with Coffee, bread, an omelette and you will find a amazing host that will made your morning very positive, the hotel in general is good to sleep!

Room Tip: Rooms with street view are great!

This hotel is in a great location with a peaceful garden and pool. Maybe a little tired around the edges for a 4* but my room was very comfortable and well equipped. The staff were friendly and helpful but the breakfast at 16 Euros is poor - go to one of the excellent nearby cafes instead.

Myself and my friend Lorraine had the privilage of staying at this hotel in August 2013, we could not believe how good the location is, very close to the beach and an exciting busy shopping street. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and professional, beautiful small pool and garden area to enjoy, our room was spotless and a great size, we also had a lovely cafe/restaurant called Bambou on our doorstep, just cannot fault this hotel and cannot wait to
return, very reasonable pricing considering how close in proximity everything is. Best regards,
Lorraine and Helen.

I have just spent 4 nights at the Sun Riviera which is located at the quieter end of the rue d'Antibes. The location of the hotel is fabulous because it is literally 5 minutes to the beach and all the shops. Our room was a standard twin and contained all that you would expect and to a good standard. However, tea and coffee making facilities were not provided in the room and there is no clock/radio. The TV in our room was hopeless as the channels were difficult to find and the TV clearly needs re-tuning. That said we did not travel all the way to Cannes to watch television so for us it was not a massive issue. What was an issue was the air con, which while working was very weak and at night we found the room too hot and our sleep was disturbed. It is unclear what the hotel can do about the air con, short of completely replacing the entire system.

The hotel has a nice little garden which contains a pool and sun loungers. When we ate breakfast we noticed all the sun loungers had towels placed on them, but no one was using them. Therefore in order to use the lounger it was necessary to place the towels to one side and not once were we challenged. I think the placing of towels on sun loungers simply to reserve it for use some time later in the day is completely chavvy.

Our stay cost €149 per night and included a contintal breakfast however the hotel need to provide breakfast that represents better value because at €16 it was clearly not worth that.

To sum up, the Sun Riviera is a nice 4 star hotel in a fabulous location and a standard double or twin without breakfast represents good value.

Room Tip: The rooms at the rear of the hotel have proper balconies.

I had the misfortune to stay at this hotel in July, although the location is great and the rooms are clean, yet a little dated, it is the arrogant staff that ruin the stay, on arriving I was sitting down in the reception when a heavily pregnant woman entered to use the bathroom, however on entering and making her way to the bathroom the receptionists asked her to get out as she wasnt a resident, they seem to not understand manners and I thought this was awful behaviour towards a pregnant lady. The staff also seem to not tolerate children even when well behaved, when asking for fresh towels, they rolled their eyes at me as if it was hassle and therefore I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. ThankYou.

The Sun Riviera Hotel was one of three available on our Newmarket holiday to Cannes and the French Riviera. We chose the most expensive which turned out to be the best. The room was perfect with every facility apart from tea and coffee facilities, but we were forewarned and took our own kettle. There was a balcony overlooking the garden and swimming pool and it was so quiet away from the road. The staff members spoke good English and were friendly and courteous.
But there was no bar and no restaurant although this wasn’t a problem for us. We dined out which is all part of the holiday experience. A three-course meal cost from 20-30 Euros which is not bad when you consider where you are. But wine and beer are so expensive – a killer!
Our only complaint was the meagre breakfast – the minimum continental. There were no cold meats or cheese slices – just the usual pastries, although you could order an omelette that cost 5 Euros.
The hotel is a 15-min walk to the old town centre (but 5 min from the beach) which was okay and meant we were away from the bustle. The other two hotels were near the centre and not so secluded. Some of our older people didn’t always fancy the walk and would have liked to dine at the hotel. There were several restaurants close by but not where the action is.
The hotel was quiet and restful. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Overlook the garden
