Mostly , only good things to write about our experience during our stay in the Carlton. We were upgraded to the Roman Polanski suite which had 2 bedrooms , a long entrance hall and a vast living room. The only cons was the breakfast. One should expect a larger variety. The staff was very attentive and caring. Bottom line: a place to return to.

Yes, i have just returned from 1981. I am amazed at the amount of good reviews this hotel picks up. Ok the staff are pleasant, the location excellent but the interior is well beyond its sell by date.
The interior is soulless, the corridors and bedrooms could not have been updated since the 80s.
The furnishings are tired and battered, the bathrooms cheaply fitted with nasty mock marble tiles that you would find in a cheap do it yourself store. For me a thoroughly depressing experience and an embarrassment to a once proud and fine hotel.
Come on owners, take the plunge and close the place and do a proper modernisation and refurbishment ,keeping the character but bringing the hotel into the 21st century.
Take a look at the Grand Hotel du Cap. or the Bel Air in Beverly Hills. Im sure you could then even charge more per night, and do you know what ? many old and new clients would be happy to pay. I know i would.

I have stayed at the Carlton once or twice a year for many years. It is a wonderful hotel but obviously not inexpensive. The seaside rooms obviously offer excellent views but the rooms facing onto the side streets are also delightful - and, frankly, quieter if you like sleeping with the windows (french doors) open. The Concierges are equal to, or better, than any other hotel I have visited - but in truth all the staff are friendly and efficient. I don't normally eat in hotel restaurants but the breakfast at the Carlton offers excellent food quality and variety and worth it if you are both hungry and have time to enjoy. My only quibble is that the power points at the desks in the rooms are not up to the task of modern communication needs if you are planning to do any work. You have to unplug the lamp to plug in your computer and charge your phone at another outlet across the room. Hardly a big deal and a trivial inconvenience in what is a very special hotel. But it will be good when they install some extra power points. In the meantime if you are coming with laptops, phones and/or ipads then pack a double adaptor as well - or visit those wonderful people at the Concierge desk.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are great - but obviously expensive. Rooms facing onto the side streets are spacious...

We have stayed at the intercontinental for some 13 years every summer; usually in September. As usual this time we were given an upgrade to a sea view room on the sixth floor. These rooms have fantastic views. The welcome and check in was extremely professional being greeted by name as well as the assistant manager conducting us to our room. We were greeted by name by many staff that have been at the hotel for many years.
We had booked breakfast flex rate for most nights however three nights were reward nights that did not include breakfast. Readers may have seen that Breakfast is 40 or so Euros that is correct however by booking breakfast flex the cost is 30 Euros which includes two people, this compares well at 15 each with the side street cafes which charge 14 for continental breakfast. So the lesson is book breakfast flex.
We are mindful of the beach charges, obviously those who either want to see the rich and famous or are the rich and famous are content to use the hotel beach at its current cost. Those who do not should take advantage of other beaches a few minutes either side of the hotel where for as little as 7 Euros a chair may be had, those who feel this is too much then just a little farther is the public free beach same sea same sand.
We can never praise the staff to much for the knowledge and helpfulness. The reception, the concierge and restaurant staffs go out of the way to please.
Comments on the fabric of the hotel being tired are perhaps justified, the hotels owners, some middle eastern person has perhaps not yet understood that this hotel has a history that needs to be cared for. Intercontinental Hotels Group are the long term managers. People who complain that there is no swimming pool perhaps have not done their research as it is clear from the hotels web site and brochures that there is not one but why worry the sea is just yards away.
We have free wifi from being a priority club member there is also as mall busines centre.
We would recommend this hotel for the service, location and the sense of occasion for being there.

Room Tip: Be a member of the groups loyalty scheme to get an upgrade and free wifi.

My husband and I stayed at the Carlton in early June and were totally impressed. Upon arrival, we were very pleasantly greeted and directed to the reception desk; where, upon presenting my hotel card, we were upgraded to a suite with a partial ocean view. During our five days here, we were always treated as honored guests. The concierge desk handled a couple of tour reservations for us with courtesy and efficiency. In our reservations we included daily breakfast which was a veritable banquet! The lavish buffet had almost anything you could want, but the servers also would place special orders if you desired something extra. To illustrate just how service oriented this hotel is, I will relate a personal experience. During our stay, I tripped and fell on the lobby staircase. Before I could even start to get up, there were three or four staff members there to assist me. They administered first aid for my scrapped arm and offered to call a doctor or take me to the hospital. I declined so they accompanied me to my room. As all of this was taking place, a member of the concierge team who knew my husband, went out to the promenade to find my husband and bring him back to me. As you can see, the staff of the Carlton is truly top notch and greatly contributed to making our stay in Cannes memorable.

Room Tip: There is an excellent bakery just a couple of blocks away that serves sandwiches, pizza and a couple...

the Bad: During a recent stay, the entire lobby and all public spaces were taken over by a trade show for 4 days. There was no place to go, except for one's room.

the good: comfortable room, great bed, quiet. Also free internet for top tier priority club member ( Ambassador Platinum).

Recently my husband and I traveled to Cannes, France and stayed at the beautiful Carlton Hotel for seven nights.
Early Check-in after an overnight flight: Excellent!
Complimentary bottle of fine Champagne delivered to our room: Delightful!
Room Upgrade with Mediterranean view: Priceless!!
After 100 years, the Carlton is as beautiful and elegant as ever. The luxurious room, comfortable amentias, free Wi-Fi and sumptuous buffet breakfast are some of the high points of our stay.
The staff was as always efficient, courteous and professional in every way.
Our visit to the South of France was wonderful mostly due to our stay at the Carlton.
We will definitely return again.
