“Lovely and charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

This is a wonderful, affordable, and charming place to stay right in Cannes. The hotel is up a steep hill from the main street down by the water and very close to the Old Town in Cannes, the Casino, the beach, and great restaurants. It is an up-hill walk of about 15 minutes (10 to come down) so you do have to be prepared for that. But if you're in mildly good shape, it's no big deal, and you won't mind the extra walking around Cannes. We loved the owner, Evelyn! She was so sweet and accommodating - and prepared delicious breakfasts each morning including all sorts of yummy croissants and breads and a HUGE cup of coffee- that we were able to eat out on the patio each day. And we also took advantage of a free parking spot, which was very convenient. The room was exceptionally clean and spacious and we had a view of the ocean. I would definitely stay here again if I come back to the area and would certainly recommend it to anyone else.

Room Tip: I think we were in 22 - it had a very nice view.

Evelyn's personality--friendly, funny, helpful--made our stay at the Hotel Albert 1er wonderful. She (and the rest of the small staff, too) really made us feel at home and was a more personal and intimate experience than staying at any larger, chain hotel. Her recommendations of where to eat, which beach to go to and where to visit in the area were impeccable.

We chose this hotel based upon the great reviews on TripAdvisor, and they were completely accurate.

The hotel itself is rated 2 stars. Which means, I suppose, that it is not particularly luxurious. Which is true. Ie, there isn't an elevator, there is no room service, no fitness center or pool, etc. But, the rooms are large, comfortable and the room and bathroom have been recently renovated (look brand new) and are tastefully decorated. The common areas have also been recently renovated, so while the building itself is not necessarily new, it has been remodeled and is very clean and well maintained.

Location is wonderful. A quick walk downhill to the center of town, and a slightly slower walk uphill back to the hotel (about 7-10 min going downhill and ~15 going uphill).

Parking at the hotel is a HUGE plus.

If you are looking for a luxurious pampering, this may not be the hotel for you. If you are looking for warm, friendly and personal service with a practical, functional and incredibly clean and comfortable hotel with a good location, this is a perfect hotel.

Was a great base for our time in Cannes, and we would return in a heart-beat.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a sea view and a nice breeze. Second floor facing south or east should do it.

The hotel is really a gem in Cote d'Azur! It is quite close to the center (appr. 15 min. by foot), but has a parking lot with a parking space reserved for you. The owners are very friendly and helpful with anything you need. The rooms are nice, spacious and clean.

We could not think of anything negative, just book it while you can and enjoy!

This is a great little Hotel picked because of previous trip adviser reviews. Lovely room with view of the bay over the rooftops. Spotlessly clean and lovingly decorated. Evelyne and her husband are the perfect hosts. An easy walk down to the sea and the tourist areas and the slight climb on the way back is a good way to start burning off the calories you have just consumed down town. Lovely breakfast. On-site free parking and free internet. Brilliant! My sister and I had a wonderful stay and would love to return.

What a lovely hotel to stay!

Our room was beautifully decorated, spacious, comfortable and very exceptionally clean

The breakfast was lovely, some pastries, croissants, hams, cheeses & cereals on offer.

Evelyne & Nasser , the owners, were so warm and friendly - always so kind, courteous & helpful. She spoke excellent English & was very hospitable to all of the guests.

Evelyn made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The hotel was accessible by car or walking. The free parking was greatly appreciated, wi-fi was free and fast.

Evelyne provided us with a city map and provided recommendations on routes to walk along the Harbour and popular areas to dine.

There is a small hill to climb when returning to the hotel - Evelyn kindly advised us about this - but it was no problem whatsoever and a good way to walk off dinner. It was a 10 minute walk to the harbour and a 15 minute walk back due to the little hills.

If we returned to Canne we would absolutely stay here again & happy to recommend to anyone !

So I decide to come to the Cannes Commercial festival at the last minute--well months before but this is the last minute in terms of this festival. And I go online and sort through apartments for rent. After one week of miserable experiences--its available, I'm holding it, no I rented it--I decided to look for a hotel. And I found the Hotel Albert 1er. The owners are wonderful, friendly people who make you feel very welcome. They obviously appreciate your business and treat you like a good customer--a POV that I don't always finds in my travel. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. My view (room 104) is pretty spectacular and I would come back here in a heart beat. It is 15 minutes walk from the Croisette so if you need to be on the beach this is probably not the hotel for you. But it is perfect for me!

Congratulations Evelyne & Nasser on your lovely relaxed hotel. Our first visit to Cannes will not be our last because of the wonderful welcome we received. The hotel is fresh and clean and our simple but very satisfactory breakfast on the terrace was delightful. The location is perfect for access to both Le Suquet and Le Croisette. We have paid a lot more for a lot less so excellent value too. We would definitely stay again.
