“Simply Stunning!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

My son and I spent three nights at Chevre D'Or. As we wound our way up the hill on arrival, we were awed by the beauty of our surroundings and stupendous views that stretched out before us. Our junior suite was spacious and well appointed with two balconies, a bedroom and separate sitting area. Dinner in the gastronomic restaurant was fabulous, well prepared, well presented and well served in a stupendous setting. The other restaurant, also in a spectacular setting, was a bit disappointing -- but perhaps only by comparison to the gastronomic one.

My wife and I traveled to Chevre D'Or for a week very recently, and overall had an enjoyable experience.

Pros
+ location between Monaco and Nice in the village of Eze was fantastic
+ Village of Eze very historic and beautiful with decent shops and restaurants
+ rooms nicely decorated with fantastic views of Mediterranean
+ most of the property was very well maintained
+ service from concierge and front desk generally very good
+ beautiful sculptures and flower gardens around property

Cons:
- food and beverage costs at hotel are very high when compared to other similar caliber restaurants in the surrounding towns (e.g. hotels's la Chevre d'Or Michelin 2 star restaurant prices are twice as high as other Michelin 2 star restaurants in the area, such as Restaurant Jerome in La Turbie); additionally, an espresso is ~8 Euro or 12 USD, a tomato salad is ~25 Euro or about 38 USD
**TIP - there are many nice little restaurants in Eze that have decent meals at much lower prices than the hotel
- hotel was undergoing maintenance of terraces on the hillside (hotel did not disclose this before making the reservation)
- pool area is very small and outdated (there were approximately 8-10 lounge chairs at the small pool area; the fencing around the pool area was very old and not visually pleasing)
- many groups of tourists are bussed to Eze on a daily basis, and many of them wander into and around the property

OVERALL:
> if your primary criteria for selecting a hotel in the Cote d'azur is location and price of hotel room and food is not of concern, this is great hotel;
>if your primary criteria is to relax at the pool or sea, there are better options in the region, such as Chateau de la Messardiere in Saint Tropez (stayed here a few years back)

We visit this piece of heaven on earth every time we are in this part of the world , which is rarely less than twice a year . All the reviews in the world do not do justice to the excellence you will find......seeing is believing , trust me . ALL the staff are of the highest quality & true professionals at their craft . When you arrive at reception this is where it starts and follows right through to the dinning experience where if you are lucky ( as he is allowed some time off ) to be looked after by Thierry Morer the Maître de who is always most welcoming .

Room Tip: Talk to reception

Pricey - but worth it! Words cannot describe the experience. Incredible made from scratch food and post card views in every direction. Quaint rooms - big by European standards, magic gardens. Be aware though that if you don't like stairs Eze is not the place for you.

One of the best and most romantic hotels we have stayed at. Dreamy and beautiful settings immaculately kept. Attentive staff without being all over you. Very private with amazing restaurants. Dinners on your own balcony at L'Eden were priceless, and the food and service at La Chèvre d'Or was just exquisite

Breathtaking experience every time I come back. Everything about it is just magical that feels like a fairytale. You totally get the feeling you're entering a different world as you come up the steps. Everywhere you look around you, there's something fascinating looking back at you. And once you make your way to the top, you feel like a new world just opened up in front of you that takes your breath away, and you're just unable to look away. And once you're there, you just want to stay...

I stayed at Chateau Eza and liked Eze so much that I decided to stay a second night and booked at Chateau de la Chevre d'Or and I am so glad I did. I am also glad I stayed at Chateau Eza first since this hotel was better and I would have been disappointed to go from this hotel to one that wasn't as good. Everything was so luxurious. The welcome cocktails and macaroons were delicious, the view from the balcony is unreal, and the had the most amazing ocean views. The room was on two levels and was immaculate, the bed was so comfortable, and it was so nice to have our own private balcony where we had breakfast delivered. It couldn't have been a more perfect stay!
