“What a gem of a place to visit!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

This is a must see place to visit. It is a small town on the top of a hill with cobblestone streets, shops, cafes, and a lovely garden. No cars can travel through the town. It is all pedestrian traffic and you wind through mazes of streets. There are shops lining many of the streets and plenty of places to stop and have a refreshing drink or snack. The views of the Mediterranean are incredible from the town. Great photo opportunity. There is a lovely garden to visit for a small fee. Waterfalls, small pools, and lots of vegetation adorn this garden. It is enhanced by statues of great beauty. This is a wonderful place and I highly recommend you make a point of visiting here.

“Like being in a scene from a Movie”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Built on a hill, the medieval buildings circle round the hill creating narrow pathways. Spectacular place - go in the evening when the crowds quieten down and stay for dinner.

“how can a small decision have a huge impact on the future”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

If the present structure of the village goes back (to) the Middle Age, Eze has been occupied from the Bronze age on. The Ligurians made a castellara out of Eze: it is a living place enclosed by huge rocks to protect men and cattle. Before the greek occupation, legend tells the phoeniciancs have built a temple to Isis. After the collapse of the Roman Empire, in 470 B.C., the area underwent several invasions, most of all were Saracen. During that period were created the "Eyries". In 972, Guillaume "The Liberator", Count of Provence, chased the invaders. Eze shared the same destiny as the Earldom of Nice: it was part of the Provence until 1388 when it belonged to the counts of Savoy. From the 16th to the 18th century, Eze underwent several French invasions: 1543, 1691, 1709, 1746, 1792. In 1706, King Louis XIV ordered the destruction of the castle. In 1792, after the creation of the "Alpes Maritimes", Eze belonged to the district of Monaco. In 1860, the people of Eze voted for their annexation to France, in the chapel of the White Penitents. I think if they had imagined Monaco today, they wouldn't have gone with France....

“Charming”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Village authentic unique and very charming, highly recommended especially if you are a couple. The old city is very romantic it is small you don't need a full day in it but my advice and if you can afford it spend the night in one of its small luxurious boutique hotels
