Camping La Baume - Residence La Palmeraie
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We have just spent a great 2 week family holiday at La Baume with JM Continental. The 3 bed mobile home was great and really clean and the fitting of the safes for valuables is a real plus. The JM staff were great and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The campsite has great facilities - especially the kiddie pool! A real laid back and friendly holiday atmosphere. Highly recommended - we will be going back.

Spent two weeks in La Baume in July 2014, staying in a 2 bed 2 bathroom Vista home with Eurocamp. The general site itself was excellent, with great pools and sporting facilities for the kids (12 & 10), especially the Eurocamp Station which the kids really enjoyed. The site itself is a good 5km from Frejus and Saint Rapheal which are both easy enough to reach by car (didn't try the bus which stops just outseide the site entrance). Nice is 45 mins away and Monaco 1 hour to the east. To the west is St.Tropez and all the glitz and glammer that goes with it.
The pitch for the mobile was excellent, slightly shaded (great in the sweltering heat - mid 30s most days) and close to both the La Baume and Las Palmerias ends of the complex. The staff in the La Baume area actually appeared to be happy to have our custom whereas the staff at the Las Palmerias end looked as if it was a chore having to serve drinks and food.
The entertainment was somewhat dissapointing.....that's if you could track it down - most nights it just never happened. I suppose the World Cup may have had something to do with this, but on the nights there were no games on, the bar areas where like ghost towns given the size of the site and the numbers staying there.
Another dissapointing aspect was the pools closing at 7pm the first week and 7.45pm the second week. this and the shop shutting early evening and the snack bar at La Baume shutting at 10pm (the matches ran on until after midnight most nights) left me scratching my head and wondering perhaps they didn't want the inconvience of serving the customers who were staying there.
All in all, a good holiday, but the little things that could have made it even better are not too far out of reach with a bit of effort and thought.
Eurocamp where excellent hosts and will definately be using them again - though not on this site!!!

As a family we visited la baume campsite twice once in may and once in July, the July visit was buzzing, so many people but that's a good thing, lovely and hot and only a short distance from frejus and the cote d'azur , short drive from nice and Cannes, very good for a base or full sun or adventure holiday. Also a lovely zoo very close :)

We stayed with Lifestyle holidays in camping La Baume for 2 weeks in August 2012 and in July 2013, travelling with 4 children aged 2,4,6 and 8 (those were the kids ages in 2012). Lifestyle holiday mobiles were situated very close to the shops and the pool complex which was great when you had forgotten something or for going for fresh croissants or pain au chocolat in the mornings, the only downside to this was that they were also situated on the entrance route to the site and the traffic was pretty intense - at times so much so that we had to take turns at sitting at the roadside to ensure our 2 year old didn't run out as there were no speed ramps on our section of road ( things were easier the 2nd year).
The pool complex was superb, catering for all of our children and also for the adults, the 6 year old particularly enjoyed the pool aerobics and the animation team dancing at the pool in the mornings.
When the kids disco was on it was a great hit with all of the kids but on our 2nd visit which was early July 2013 the timetable was not always followed by the animation team and left the children v disappointed on several occasions.
It's easy to catch the bus to frejus and the market is well worth a visit and a slightly further trip on the bus takes you to Saint Raphael which is worth seeing as the beach is lovely and Mc Donald's makes a quick and easy lunch!
Overall we found La Baume an excellent campsite and place to stay, we actually didn't leave the campsite at all on our 1st 2 week stay , only venturing on the bus the following year so in our opinion there is plenty to do on site for 2 weeks!

This is our 5th year camping as a family of 5 in France. We picked La Baume as it was a large park with plenty going on and kids clubs suitable for our older 2 (6 & 4) .

The site is a large, mostly shaded forest style site and relatively spacious for this part of the Riviera. We stayed with Eurocamp in one of their Espace homes which is excellent for overall space for larger families.

My favourite aspect was the amount of shade which meant the mobiles didn't get stifflingly hot even in high temperatures. Site layout was a little unusual with a number of mobiles turned to face inward to each other with little in between them which meant we were largely staring directly at our neighbours deck for most of the holiday. A little unusual but as it turned out we had some lovely neighbours and the kids played together while the adults enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck.

We had high hopes for this site, the biggest we will have visited but I'm afraid it didnt live up to expectations. Although large the evening atmosphere was almost non existent. It may have been that with the world cup on they cut back their animations programme but the place was pretty lifeless at night. One kids disco in 7 days (despite advertising 3, meaning disappointed kids when we turned up at 845 to discover nothing happening) and only football on at the main bar most nights. I've been at other campsites during world cups and there's great atmosphere for the matches with entertainment top and tailing it to get the crowd going but here no.

The two separate pool areas (see other reviews below on the "two site" aspect) didn't help. The restaurant is down at the Palmaraie end with the main bar and takeaway at the other end. On two nights there was stuff on at the Palmaraie but I object to having to pay lots for entertainment onsite (there was a circus came in one night at extortionate prices and another night an inflatables slides/boucy castles event which was €7 per child and ridiculously €2 for any adults who wanted in to supervise their kids). In the end we went as there was nothing else to do. But they timed it with the restaurant having a bbq night at €24 per adult and €16 per child. We certainly wouldn't have got any value for money with 3 young children at that so we had to buy takeaway from up at the top of the site and bring it the while way to the bottom to eat whilst kids ran about.

The pool area is huge but again no atmosphere (we did a second week at nearby Esterel -a much smaller site but with pool games, music, animations staff having kids up dancing etc). All the loungers chained together in a long row around the pools and only a quarter of the number of loungers needed in high season. I've been at sites before where loungers are busy bit every square inch has one, this pool area had acres of empty concrete space that could easily have taken more loungers but didn't.

Kids pool is great (my kids called it the rainbow pool), kids clubs were also great (thanks Robin). Couriers were just ok, we had a problem with water which required us to ask 3 times before it was finally fixed.

In theory this park should be amazing but it's just missing a bit of a soul.good facilities but the two split night time venues need some more work as neither was pleasant to spend time in. And the animations programme was rubbish. Eurocamp should also ensure if they are advertising a park as having a kids disco that they advertise the frequency in high season, others we have been to have had them nightly. Not a lot there nightly for families.

Just came back from 12 days in La Baume yesterday. I was a bit nervous as the reviews seemed to be mixed on tripadvisor. I travelled with a party of 10. Myself, husband, my 6 and 8 year old, my sister, her husband, their 4 and 6 year old and my mam and dad. We all had a really nice time and I thought the camping site was excellent. We stayed in a espace mobile home which was nice and had everything we needed. The pools on the campsite were fab and the shops stocked everything we need although for a big shop the nearby Carrefour is a must. We hired a car and again I think you would need that. It's only about 10 minutes drive for the beach at Saint Aygulf which was very nice. Although we normally stuck to the pools on site. The bar areas were lovely and the kids had a ball. Everyone we met was very nice. We experienced no problems with noise and sat out every night until about 1 o' clock having a few drinks or listening to a bit of music and had no problem with loud noises. Even though we did have a great time I would not be running back to this type of holiday but that's a personal choice and nothing to do with the campsite, it's just that I found this type of holiday a lot of work as I still had to cook and clean every day and even on arrival the sheets for our beds were in packs on the bed which we had to make ourselves and the linen was up to ourselves to wash and change. For the price of this holiday I would prefer a hotel where you get more service for your money. But again I think this is expected for a camping/mobile home holiday but it wasn't a cheap holiday and I would prefer not to have to wash, clean and cook so much. It was a bit tiring to arrive from a day travelling to get there and then nerve wracking to try and figure out the driving and then on arrival have to drive to the supermarket to buy provisions, come back, make up beds, and then cook. The campsite is also away from the shops or the town of Frejus so you can't just stroll out of the place and take a walk around, a car is a must. But for a camping/mobile home holiday it was very good and I would give the campsite a big thumbs up. Also there is no free Wifi. Wifi costs €28/week but the wifi is only available in the 2 bar areas and not in the mobile home areas or campsite areas. There was a TV in our mobile home but there were no stations on it, it was just hooked up to a DVD player.

very disappointed with this site, spent last 2 weeks in june here in a private rental, pool complex great but serious lack of loungers and this was June, staff were extremely arrogant and unhelpful,we queued many days before the 10am opening but never managed to get one!they were cable tied together in groups of 8 so no flexibility even if you were luck to grab one!our kids are teenage and normally enjoy archery/mini golf etc but this only started in july. The place was dead after 10 pm even for the French match and 'fete de la musique',no ambiance. The site is very dark after hours and difficult to navigate at night with poor security. We were also robbed to finish us off, cash taken from the mobile and the car and even a towel taken from the laundrette. After speaking with reps this has been a common occurance, all in all far from a 5 star experience and would never revisit.
