Camping La Baume - Residence La Palmeraie
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Just got back from Camping La Baume nr Frejus earlier today and must be honest, it's tired out! The cleaning block nearest our static home was derelict, I mean properly abandoned with boarded up doors and windows with dry leaves and litter filling the sinks. Even the pools, probably the site's greatest feature, were in need of serious modernisation with broken tiles and chipped paint everywhere. It all just looked like it needed modernising. Not like the owners couldn't afford it either with just about every mobile home, camping pitch and chalet taken!

We booked through Thompson's Al Fresco service and for well over £2k we were bitterly disappointed. Rep didn't turn up as arranged even though we texted our ETA as instructed, the mobile home was truly filthy, fag ends littered the immediate surroundings, the decking was filthy, the fire alarm was incorrectly fitted, all the crockery was mismatched etc, etc... On top of this, we were told that we couldn't use the air conditioning at the same time as the oven as the mains tripped out and we'd have to go to the reception to have it reset (easily a 20 minute round trip!). Wild cats kept using our seating area as a toilet (not nice to step on whilst wearing flip flops) and the reps were not to be seen at any point throughout out two week stay, I mean never in their little office or around the site. The food at the restaurants was average at best and mindblowingly expensive eg burger and chips twice and one pizza, two cokes, one beer; no desert no starter €75!!!! We quite rightly thought that by booking an 8 berth for the 3 of us (and at a full price of £2350), we were in for a treat and sadly we really were not. Although tiring, taking my car was a godsend because it meant we could get out and visit other places. Frejus is lovely just don't stay at this site.... Shame on Al Fresco, absolute rubbish, and to think we had a choice!!!!

If you're wondering why I gave a 1 star rating and not lower, it's because despite all I have mentioned, we still had a great time but this was to do with our stoic resilience and nothing to do with Al Fresco or La Baume. This place should be closed down and Al Fresco should be made an example of... Disgusting!

We came back from La Baume on Friday. The site was great, clean and pretty. We liked our vivaldi riviera but would get something bigger if we go again.Pools were lovely.Only let down for us was the bar prices. Our kids love to go to the bars at night on holiday, but the prices were extortionate, over 6 euros for a pint of beer,7 for a cocktail,I think soft drinks were over 3.As there were 7 of us we gave it a wide berth and got our drinks in Carrefour, and the Geant casino in Frejus. On the plus side, the rep Chris was nice, the mobile was better equipped than any we,ve had before, and the air conditioning kept it lovely and cool. The whole site needs clearer signposting, and maybe solar lighting though, because it,s like a maze in the dark.Only heard a bit of traffic 1 night when the wind changed. It was Awesome!

Spent 2 weeks at la baume. Arrived at around midnight from Nice and our reps from thompson al fresco were nowhere to be seen nor had they texted/emailed re our ETA. Our friends booked through eurocamp and they received a text the day before travel and reps were there to greet them. Rossini mobile was fine down the Palarie end (3*) both our friends were in la baume end (5*) supposedly. Campsite is fine certainly nothing to write home about. First the BAD points. Swimming pools good but lack of loungers is ridiculous. They are booked from approx 9am and the loungers are tied together so can't b moved so ur in the shade some of the time. There is more space for loungers and double the amount they have could be used. We bought deck chairs in Carrefour which sufficed. Never before have I ever seen such a lack of bins. There are only 2 lots of rubbish bins at either end of campsite so u have a long trudge with your bottles etc fine if u have a car not so good if u have to walk. Entertainment at night was hopeless. We were there 1st 2 weeks of July and most nights we were the only families in the bar after 11.30. I know people with small kids have probably gone to bed but I've never been in a bar so quiet. There is a takeaway beside the bar. Food is fine pizza is good but the restaurant is at the Palmarie end. Ate there 2 nights and was ok. However it wasn't all bad. The pitches are well spaced and kept nicely surrounded by trees flowers etc. Staff in the supermarket were very nice always had a chat with you. The weather was fab. The area is gorgeous. Drove to Monaco which is lovely. Got ferry from St Raphael to St Tropez which is amazing to see. Went to Cannes via the coast road and the views are amazing. However traffic in this area is crazy even the motorways can b bumper to bumper ( took us 3 hours to come back from Monaco which is only 60km away). All in all we did have a great holiday but I don't think I would return to La Baume

Just back after two weeks, staying on the Le Baume campsite.
We booked with JM Continental and Judi and all of her staff are second to none. They couldn't do enough for us.
Our three kids loved every minute of the holiday, the pools and slides are excellent.
We found the evening entertainment on site a total let down. Although having said that we met fantastic people and loved the whole camping experience.

Just returned from a 9 day stay at this site with lifestyle holidays. Was greated by Owen and Jake and shown to property which was spotless and in a very good position. they were very helpful and friendly and recommended different tourist attractions which we visited and was very good. They often popped in to see if we needed anything or just to see how our holiday was going very polite and friendly boys who couldn't do enough for you which is very hard to find these days. Would highly recommend this site and could assure you you'd be well looked after by the lifestyle team here. Will defenatly be returning here.

We have just spent a great 2 week family holiday at La Baume with JM Continental. The 3 bed mobile home was great and really clean and the fitting of the safes for valuables is a real plus. The JM staff were great and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The campsite has great facilities - especially the kiddie pool! A real laid back and friendly holiday atmosphere. Highly recommended - we will be going back.

Spent two weeks in La Baume in July 2014, staying in a 2 bed 2 bathroom Vista home with Eurocamp. The general site itself was excellent, with great pools and sporting facilities for the kids (12 & 10), especially the Eurocamp Station which the kids really enjoyed. The site itself is a good 5km from Frejus and Saint Rapheal which are both easy enough to reach by car (didn't try the bus which stops just outseide the site entrance). Nice is 45 mins away and Monaco 1 hour to the east. To the west is St.Tropez and all the glitz and glammer that goes with it.
The pitch for the mobile was excellent, slightly shaded (great in the sweltering heat - mid 30s most days) and close to both the La Baume and Las Palmerias ends of the complex. The staff in the La Baume area actually appeared to be happy to have our custom whereas the staff at the Las Palmerias end looked as if it was a chore having to serve drinks and food.
The entertainment was somewhat dissapointing.....that's if you could track it down - most nights it just never happened. I suppose the World Cup may have had something to do with this, but on the nights there were no games on, the bar areas where like ghost towns given the size of the site and the numbers staying there.
Another dissapointing aspect was the pools closing at 7pm the first week and 7.45pm the second week. this and the shop shutting early evening and the snack bar at La Baume shutting at 10pm (the matches ran on until after midnight most nights) left me scratching my head and wondering perhaps they didn't want the inconvience of serving the customers who were staying there.
All in all, a good holiday, but the little things that could have made it even better are not too far out of reach with a bit of effort and thought.
Eurocamp where excellent hosts and will definately be using them again - though not on this site!!!
