“If you want to have your feet in the water”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

We wanted to find a hotel on the beach, near Cannes. Not on the other side of a noisy seaside boulevard. It was not easy to find but luckily we stumbled upon Pullman Mandelieu. The room was spacious with a lovely view over the sea from are large balcony (and this was a classic room). So we really did have our toes in the water all the time. The hotel is quite matter of fact like accord hotels usually are, but everything was working and functional. A special treat was also the long boardwalk along the sea that you could walk or run for miles.

Room Tip: We had a classic sea side room on the third floor (310). The only minus was the location near the ve...

Don't book this hotel thinking you are going to be in Cannes, it's postal address is Mandelieu, but it's not there either - it's on the edge of La Napoule, which is a drive away from either Cannes or Mandelieu. This stretch of coast is quite low key and family friendly with some nice sandy beaches and cheap(er) restaurants. It's not the place if you want glitz and nightlife, although this hotel has a Vegas style slot machine casino and '70's themed nightclub.

The hotel was built in 1983 as part of a massive development of apartments and the architectural age of the scheme is not wearing well. It would be a kindness to the eye if the hotel was dropped. It does however have a great sea front location and shares a tiny triangle of sandy beach with the apartments. There's also an artificial breakwater so that swimming here is very safe. It's rare for any hotel in the area to have direct beach access and off season this is a nice feature but in July and August it's standing room only. Most of the rooms have some view over the bay of Cannes but the sea view rooms are worth the premium as they are away from the busy main road.

Some attempts have been made to update the hotel and the room decor is modern and tasteful, the rooms themselves are a good size with reasonable bathrooms and all have nice balconies. Overall however the rooms are nice 3 star not 4 star. The air con in our room was quite noisy reflecting it's age.

The public rooms are less successful, there is some terrible public art and a degree of bling about the furnishings and wall coverings. You might have accidentally entered the '70s nightclub. In the summer you are unlikely to spend much time indoors so this probably doesn't matter.

The swimming deck is a disappointment, although it has a great sea view. There are two decks, one has super squashy beds and costs an extra €15 per person per day! The standard beds are fine but very close together - as is the norm for commercial beach clubs in the area. The lack of space means that beds are positioned right up to the edge of the pool and so - presumably for safety as it's very deep - the pool has a glass screen right around it. This makes it very unattractive and uninviting, very few people use it as a result.

There's also a poorly equipped beach side gym but not air conditioned.

The restaurant is by the pool, again it's right up against the glass barrier, further making access to the pool difficult. The food in the restaurant is really very good and cheap too - by local standards. What's not cheap is parking your car - €15 per day. There's a free car park across the road. The minibar charges €7 for a can of beer (and an especially small can at that).

There's a nice sea front walkway to La Napoule which has a harbour, beach and some seaside restaurants.

Room Tip: Pay extra for sea view to avoid looking over busy road

Excellent hotel,excellent service almost personal.
Nice location away from the fuss.
Ideal hotel for a business traveller - helps one to rest after a hard day's work.
Ideal especially for people that enjoy and appreciate a calm hotel atmosphere.

Good location and our room number 427 had nice side view of sea. The hotel feels more 3 star than 4 star. We were there middle of August and it was full. The swimming pool area is not big enough and the sunbeds are packed in like sardines. The breakfast area looked a mess, we ate elsewhere, the drinks service was good and the staff we dealt with were helpful but not that friendly. On departure there were errors on our bill and we would have been overcharged 50euros if I had not spotted them. We paid 250 euros per night room only, which for mid August is ok, but we would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 427 was side view sea view and is ok.

This hotel is very pleasant to stay in. Visually, it is attractive: spacious artistic reception, the rooms are modern, white, very clean, the private bay beach area is particularly nice to look at from the hotel rooms / balconies.
We stayed at the Pullman for three nights, on a long weekend. We were pleased with our stay, and thought that the staff were accommodating and welcoming. I recommend the strawberry mojitos at the bar outside!
The hotel is slightly out of the center of Cannes, but if you have a car, it is easy as pie to ride along the coast and get there within 10 mins.
We also took the time to use the massage center for a swedish massage, which was very good indeed. Just what you need on a long weekend to let go of a week's work!
The breakfast was good, but admittedly pricey.
I definitely recommend this hotel.

For our August holiday this year we decided to travel Europe by the no frills airlines.
Our first stop was South of France and we decided to visit an old haunt that we haven't been to in nearly 10 years. Since our last time the name has changed slightly and there has been a modernistic make over. Very much to our liking.
This is by far the most expensive hotel on our tour but the rooms are good, great view of the sea, the service is very good and the breakfast is great even at 19 euros each. Having breakfast by the pool with views of Cannes bay is an excellent way to start your day.
The hotel has a little sheltered beach very safe for swimming and a pool. It was very busy whilst we were there so getting a sunbed was not always easy.
We were there for 3 nights and ate out on the first two. On the last night there was a dinner and firework display and it turned out to be a spectacular evening. The choice of food was limited. Only a salmon starter and two main courses, so we ordered one of each. The food was cooked to perfection and probably the best out of the 3 nights. With wine and pre dinner cocktail the evening was only a little over 100€.
The firework display was something else. Set to music it was a spectacular show which earning a standing ovation at the end. A must do evening if you are at this hotel when this is on.
We also dabbled a little in the casino which is more slot machines than casino.
A great place for a long weekend or short visit.

Room Tip: Splash out on a sea view.
