“Close to train station and helpful female staff”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

This hotel is located near train station. When you walk out train station, and go down the stairs at first road cowalking straight.
The staff is very helpful and offer good information about travel.
The room is small but OK. There is a garden in the front of hotel building.

Fantastic budget hotel. If you're not looking for frills, but want a simple, clean, friendly hotel with a lovely breakfast, this is it! The owners are environmentally conscious, the rooms are spotless and it's easy walking distance from downtown. The train is literally 2 minutes from the hotel. The site photos are also very accurate. Some guests have complained about noise from a playground below. It's very minimal and for us added to the feel of the neighborhood which is very french and charming. If you're looking for luxe this isn't it, but if great on a budget is your goal, look no further!

In terms of price and location, Hotel Lemon was perfect for us. We got a top-floor room with a balcony, which had a mountain view past the railway line, and found it a very pleasant place to spend downtime. Also, we came during the October half term, so the school next door was mercifully deserted! The hotel's position near the station is great for day-trips to Monaco, Nice and Ventimiglia, and as we didn't bring a car this was really good.
A few small negatives, though: if you're a light sleeper it might be a good idea to pack some earplugs - the sound of the nearby trains mixed with a creaky pipe by the bed made for some fairly noisy nights. Also, we stayed for a week and once we'd used up the soap in the bathroom it wasn't replaced. I'm sure if we'd bothered to ask more would have been provided!
Overall though, we'd recommend Hotel Lemon as a comfortable base for exploring the area.

Room Tip: No carpets, so top floor is quietest.

We stayed at Hotel Lemon on a one night stop over from Provence to Italy. The hotel is well priced, clean and comfortable. It is situated close to the centre of Menton so it was easy to walk into the centre in the evening.
Parking was a little difficult as basically you have to find a space on a nearby street, which was a bit if a lottery.
The service was efficient and the room we had was a reasonable size and comfortable enough. I can imagine it would be very warm in the summer as it was pretty warm when we were there at the end of September.

Menton is located along the French Riviera near numerous resort towns. Its main advantage is that it is considerably less expensive than nearby towns, yet it provides easy access to not only the beach, but numerous picturesque hill towns and villages.

Hotel Lemon is conveniently located just a few blocks to the beach and about a kilometer or so from the old town. The stroll along the waterfront to the old town is very nice. The hotel itself is quite basic, with no frills or extra amenities. What you get is a basic room that is quite small. The bathroom is diminutive, with a shower that is extremely tight. Drop the soap and you have to exit the stall to pick it up. My wife and I have stayed at small inns and B&Bs throughout Europe, so we are OK with small rooms. This shower, however, is one of the smallest we have ever experienced.

The biggest drawback regarding the room we had is that it is noisy. There is no air conditioning, so I requested a fan, which the clerk was happy to provide. Still, it was very warm, forcing us to open the window. The hotel is located on a fairly busy street, so traffic and pedestrian noise was quite pronounced. Even ear-plugs didn't block out all of the noise. Closing the window helped some, but the room became quite stuffy.

Breakfast was usual French fare: bread and jellies. The weather was nice our first morning, so we were able to enjoy it in the hotel's nice courtyard.

Hotel Lemon is suitable for a short stay in this region. It is basic, albeit a bit cramped, but it does provide the necessities. If you plan on spending some time relaxing in a hotel, however, you should probably pay a bit more and seek accommodations that offer a bit more.

We are just back from a four night stay at this hotel. We really enjoyed staying here. It was almost perfect and amazing value. It would have been absolutely perfect if there had even been a small portable fan in the room. Luckily we visited in Sept so it was bearable. Another big plus would have been a small fridge as waking up thirsty in the night with nothing but tap water is a bit depressing. Apart from those two small gripes we really liked this hotel. Also we enjoyed a bottle of their very good low priced wine..sitting in the small garden at cocktail hour.
The hotel was also spotless. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Would be nice to have a balcony room

Lovely hotel. Big rooms with small but nice bathrooms. Incredibly cheap for Menton. Rooms are clean and very tastefully (modern) furnished. Eco-friendly. 2 minutes from the station, 15 minutes walk to old Menton. Nice courtyard to have breakfast in. Friendly owners. The only thing is that if you are there during school times, you'll get woken up by the children playing in the school yard. Highly recommended!
