We stayed here as an overnighter on our way from Provence to Italy. Room and bathroom were spacious and clean. View was fantastic- over the whole bay watching swimming, boats coming and going, and the doorman from the expensive restaurant over the road moving guests cars all around according to how posh you were! And the sunset!! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wifi was a bit dodgy in the room for my iphone so they gave me a computer to use at reception which was appreciated.

We booked into this hotel mainly for the sea view and were not disappointed. Having arrived there it was in a reasonable location from where we wanted to be (the harbour) so was pleased with that and the parking.

On arriving there we were quite excited when they said they would up-grade us to a bigger room (room 302) which also had a sea view. The reception staff were very nice. This is where the good news ended. The appartment had two bedrooms, whilst nice and big not really necessary for two people. There were stains on the carpets, tiles broken and bodged on the walls, like the last post the bath looked as though it had not seen a cloth or cleaning detergent as it was filthy. There was a toothpick at the foot of the bed on the floor and the bed creaked just sitting on it! The rooms were very tired and needed a good up-grade and clean. For E160 per night I would not recommend it. Such a shame to such a lovely building/location.

Room Tip: Don't!

Okay, at this price (60 euros for a single) I have no right to complain..... but not worth saving a few bucks when you end up with a tonne of very expensive taxi fares to get to where you want to be ie the centre.

What I cant fault ~ the spectacular view, and the rooms are a good size. It is close to the port, which has its advantages (as long as you only want to go that far). The people working here are also very pleasant.

What I would have preferred ~ to be closer to town, to have something going on around me. A little "je ne sais quoi" in my accomodations.

What I didnt like ~ the prefabricated breakfast, the grottiness of the carpets.

My friends also complained about the internet connectivity, members of our group used to more salubrious surroundings were clearly upset about the location, the accomodation and the cleanliness.....

OK, a 40 minute walk to town isnt that bad, but when youve done it 3 times a day.... Admit that I did not check out the beach across the road, maybe that would be a dealmaker? Nah..... next time I will stay in town, any recommendations???

Room Tip: Ocean front for sure. But there is also street noise......

We stayed in this hotel as it was recommended by a work colleague. We are a family of 4 with two young kids (6 and 8). The positive side of the room we had (301) was the view on the ocean and the bay and it was an appartment with two rooms. However, this was the most expensive hotel throughout our one month stay in France and we slept in 11 hotels. It wasn't the cleanest room either. In fact it was one of the dirtiest. The beds were clean but that's about it. Above the toilet, there was a little pile of chunks of paint and plaster. The paint on the ceiling was peeling and was almost as if there was paper hanging from the ceiling. The bathtub was all stained and looked as if it had never been cleaned. We gave showers to our kids instead of baths. Between the bath and the sink cabinet was a pile of dust and hair and empty shampoo envelopes.... so the cleaning people didn't clean too much. The carpet was quite filthy covered in stains. For about 200$ (Canadian) a night, I was expecting something much better. Place has free parking that locks at night. Internet is 30 minutes free per day. Employees were nice. About 2 km walk from old Nice and Promenade des Anglais. Across the street is a small beach where we went swimming a few times but Cap Ferrat is about 25 minutes drive and the beach is just awesome.

Echoing the previous reviewer, we'd recommend this place for the great views of the bay and city (provided you're on the south side of the hotel). It's not bad value at around 70 euros a night for a double B&B. Walk into the old town takes 10-15 minutes.

The hotel could be really excellent if a little money were spent on it. The decor and furnishings are shabby (we had tiles missing in our bathroom, badly stained carpets, as well as dirty shelves). The lack of anywhere to sit in the large reception is plain odd. A few plastic chairs were available to sit outside.

Breakfast was OK but nothing to write home about - croissants, boiled eggs, cereals, bread and jam, mediocre coffee from a machine.

We also suffered from the fact they do not offer cots. We were travelling with a baby, and asked four times about a cot before receiving a negative reply just 2 days before the trip, necessitating rapid purchase of our own travel cot. We were also scheduled to arrive relatively late (about 11pm) on the first night, but reception is closed by then and we were asked to find someone else attending our conference to pick up the key for us. OK, we managed that without much hassle, as we knew people attending the conference and staying in the hotel. But we'd have liked to see a bit more sympathy and effort when they knew we were travelling with a baby, after all. The reception staff were certainly friendly when we met them, though.

All in all a so-so stay, but worth it for the wonderful views at an affordable price, if you put up with the shabbiness and don't expect too much of the food or service.

La Maison du Seminaire has a wonderful position within strolling distance of picturesque Port de Nice and dozens of quayside restaurants.
From rooms at the front there are excellent views of Nice Bay

There is a dining room open to guests for breakfast. It seems it is also open for dinner. We didn't dine as there were only three other guests booked for dinner. Few things are worse than an brightly over-lit empty dining room.
It seems that the Maison may still be owned by the church and is used for conferences etc

The building is quite old with wonderful sweeping, formal, stone stairways up to the reception area …. no elevators at that level. It is an old mansion and has the feel of austerity. The reception area is modern and functional with no furniture at all and staff, though friendly work behind a glass screen. Those I met had a decent command of English.
There is no guest sitting or lounge area. There are several conference rooms/ group lecture rooms.

Guest rooms echo the austerity note with very rudimentary desks and furniture. My shower room was enormous but a monument to poor design with a typically French 3 sliding-door arrangement. It was, however, not very deep in so far as with my back to the door my large body was touching the poorly placed shower control with sudden consequences for water temperature. A decent designer could have made a fabulous shower room given all the available space in the room.
The lack of design extended to a large wardrobe with the twin beds pushed right against it rendering it quite unusable. Had I been allocated the room for more than 2 nights I would have had to complain about lack of hanging space … pure failure to think things through from the viewpoint of a paying guest.

The windows also date back too many years with large wooden shutters which were fine but suffering from a need to refurbish broken metal catches etc. That magnificent view was therefore a bit tempered by having to squint through those shutters.

TV in the rooms carry only French channels which are generally an acquired taste. In 2009 it's not unreasonable to expect even modest hotels to have satellite TV with international channels.

The hotel does have excellent parking and even a large old chapel.
Disabled guests can be catered for by driving up the kitchen delivery ramp whence it is a flat level walk round to reception. There are elevators to all bedroom floors.

Want a quiet time, like French TV, don't mind spending evenings at nearby restaurants, don't mind a bit of austerity?
La Maison could be for you but for just a few Euros more you could probably be in the heart of things in the old town.

OK but Not strongly recommended.
