“Excellent Matisse”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

A lovely collection of his work in his home in Nice. There are works from Paris to complete the
scope of the exhibition. The museum is a little out of the city centre, but the 15 and 22 buses are nearby and leave from the centre - easy! And it's free as it is a national treasure. One hour is sufficient time.

“Love Matisse”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

This museum gives you the sense of wonder that he created. The room with the wall collages of the sea and its creatures was best of all.

“The Real Matisse”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

A lot of his important work is not there, but simply seeing anything by him in that setting is uplifting (don't mean to sound so spiritual, but that is what you walk away with!). You get a sense of why he was in the south of france, and how his work relates to the location. Doesn't take long to walk through. Really worth a visit.

“Good to see, if you have the time”
Reviewed 2 May 2014 via mobile

We went here on a afternoon trip, the locality it is situated in is beautiful. The garden outside the museum , is lovely, we had a short nap on the green grass.

The museum is well organised and gives you a good glimpse at the artists life, as he actually lived in that Villa once.

Overall a good experience

“Disappointing and Far from Center”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

We tried to see as many of the free museums as possible in a day on the 5 euro bus pass, and this was one of them. We took the bus from the port area to the museum, and it took almost 30 minutes. there are faster routes, but this was the distance from the port.
The museum has very little in it for our taste and was disappointing after traveling so far - we had just 1 day. There were a lot of drawings and preliminary sketches and framed pieces of his famous cut out paper. We were hoping for more finished works and paintings. The highlight of this stop was the extensive Roman ruins all around the museum. There's an archeology museum there also, but we didn't go to it.
Summary - if you love Matisse, go, but not till you've seen all the other wonderful sights and museums in Nice.
