If you are going to Nice, you must stay at Hotel Negresco. You will spend more for the 5 stars, but it is well worth the price. We stayed here for 5 nights on our honeymoon, and it was pure magic... We had a standard room (Room #110), which was fairly large with a partial ocean view. The decore was authentic French, from the four post bed (v comfortable), high celings, and golden bee wallpaper, right down to the portrait of Nepolean on the wall. Service was excellent and friendy. Thanks to the helpful concierge, we rented a Fiat convertable for a day, which was delivered right to the front door. The lounge had a piano player and singer every night, that we could hear from our first floor room, but it actually added to the charm as we got ready for our night out. The lobby, etc is literally a museum. The Neptune beach was also excellent and our guy, Remi, took very good care of us. Overall, an amazing place to stay, and well worth the price. I would recommend to anyone...

The negresco is an institution which all the services and qualified staff making it still a palace. I Would rate the service as exceptional. The Concierges are just out of this world. The reception is going the extra 10 miles to make your staff the most enjoyable. They are acting ahead of your need. The team of valet are just perfect and professional. The room was clean, big, decorated with the negresco trade market. The bathroom could be updated a bit though. They have a great deal with the plage Neptune. The Rotonde is spectacular.

Unique. Eccentric. Eclectic. Words all too common in these review pages and ones which are mercilessly applied to any place where the service was friendly but hopeless, the decor " bohemian" and /or the menu somewhat confused but the chef makes a good fist of it. In essence then none of these words have any place in a review of the Negresco, which is simply absolutely barking mad. Walking through the public spaces is a bit like walking through a cross between an art college installation by a not particularly inventive bunch of students armed mainly with mannequins and the Doctor who set designers storeroom. The most striking features of the whole insanity are the endless appalingly bad potraits of what appears to be a young Mrs Thatcher but is apparently the hotel's owner/founder/whatever. I am sure she is a very nice lady but she should probably have exercised some self restraint before embarking on a Kim il Sung style tribute mausoleum installation just off the lobby. The rooms themselves are likewise barmy- having seen several it appears to be pot luck onthe furniture front - all of which looks like its fresh from Ms Haversham's mansion- which may or may not be a bad thing depending on ones taste. The sensory overload will sooner or later drive one to the bar-which is again an experience-a vast wood panelled room seemingly plucked from some wind blased gothic pile in the North of England and reassembled on the riviera. Sitting beside a window gazing out at the sparkling med and lithesome summer flesh of the promenade from within its cavernous darkness is a strangely unsettling experience- and made me feel that i was being held against my will and forced to drink the chablis served with great effeciency and warmth by the barman. We repaired to the restaurant for a late lunch- and once again the place clicked up a notch or two on the richter scale of the bizarre. The food was perfectly decent bistro fare-and by Nice standards not stratosphericly over priced-always a bonus in that part of the world. The service was friendly and effecient, ditto re bonus. However, the carousel horses, organ playing mannequin and attendent mechanical shenanigans were just plain unneccessary. Under no circumstances should any reader attempt to eat here when under the effect of any hallucegenic. Take my word for it, it won't end well.
So then, how to summarize? I struggle really so will have to leave it to one of my Russian colleagues who has also stayed there, a man with not only an appetitie for the finer things in life but a high tolerance for the more 'creatively oppulent' end of the interior design spectrum. Said he-'this is really a very very strange hotel. I have never been anywhere like it.'

Dear Ethelista,
Thank you for writing your experience on Trip Advisor, we are of course very sorry that you did not appreciate the hotel but must admit despite this fact that we enjoyed reading your entry! Indeed all I can say in response, at risk of being redundant is: unique, eccentric eclectic 
It is true that the Negresco is not for everyone, but we trust in any case that your stay with us will not soon be forgotten… Should you rashly decide to come back for a meal or a drink (as we understand you will opt for a more understated accommodation in Nice in future) do ask to speak to the director of sales as it would be a pleasure to meet you..

Ps: the mannequins are only a temporary display, part of the centennial exposition about the history of the 100 year old Negresco.

Forget all the reports of pompous staff at this Hotel, complete nonsense, possibly the friendliest and most competent staff in any Hotel I have ever visited. I have reviewed a number of 5 star Hotels around the world always with some minor reservations. Not the Negresco !
Absolutely wonderful Hotel, with exceptional staff. The 2 star Michelin restaurant is a great experience, perfect in every sense. The Brassiere restaurant also serves wonderful food in a unique fairground themed setting
The Hotel has a private beach which is 20 Euros per day per person for sun bed, shade and towel. It has a beach restaurant that is also excellent and whilst a little expensive well worth it in my view
There are numerous reviews that mention the amazing artwork and décor throughout the Hotel. They are all true!
The Negresco is not to be confused with cheap but it delivers exceptional service in one of the greatest locations in the planet. If you really want a special treat, look no further you will not disappointed
I would like to be slightly critical in some way, but I genuinely can’t! if you don’t like this Hotel location, food or service I think you might be the problem

Room Tip: sea view or partial sea view

We decided to splurge and reserved a luxury room with a sea view. The service was truly A+ and the room was beautiful. The hotel is a like a museum inside and an attraction into itself. Highly recommended.

The Hotel Negresco is the best in Nice the "play" area of France. Situated on the famous "Les Anglais" looking at the sea it has one of the finest addesses France has to offer. I warn though that the airport in Nice is not a nice experience, it reminds me of the Wellington airport in New Zealand. The pilot has to 'dump' the plane down quick & hard. The hotel is surely old world with old world charm. Excellent service. The restaurant quite stunning if you wish to pay a very high price. We did eat at a Michelin one star restaurant in the mountains nearby that was better.. The rooms of course are stylish old world but very comfortable and quiet even though the traffic outside is very heavy being the route to Monacco & Italy. The price, too much for what you get. However of you want old world charm, manners & style then this hotel is for you.

Room Tip: Just ask the check in desk if you can get high up & catch the wonderful view. They all have a/c...

The Hotel is located in an amazing location just across from The Promendade des Anglais. The suites and its views of the Bay are stunning. The Hotel is kept very clean and the rooms are immaculate. The Hotel is elegant and has amazing art work. We found that the one area where the Hotel needs to significantly improve is in connection with service and staff. We found the hotel staff in general arrogant, tired and not interested in their guests with only a handful of the staff being actually helpful or pleasant.
