Wonderful hotel, like being transported back to times when the hotel would do anything for you. A real experience which everyone should have. Only down sides were the extortionate prices in the bar and the rather tired and worn carpets on the stairs and in the bedroom. Our room was 306, a fantastic room, very large and comfortable, alas the miniature bar was turned off, resulting in none of the drinks being cold. Well worth a visit.

Dear foster27,

Thank you for choosing the Negresco Hotel for spending your stay in Nice. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We feel sorry about the turned off mini bar. Our room service staff could have replaced it right away if you mentionned it at your arrival in room 306. Regarding worn carpets, the Negresco hotel started refurbishing rooms and suites since March 2014. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.

We all look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

With warmest wishes,

Once again Negresco looked after us from start to finish, Nothing is a problem to the friendly staff. Our suite had wonderful views of the sea and the town - but the road noise was bad with the window open. Very comfortable bed, large sitting area, separate dressing room, and everything you could need in the bathroom. The light controls in the bedroom defeated us - they came on when least expected (or wanted) and not when they were needed. The decor suits the age of the building and the lifts are probably original. There is art "everywhere" from all eras which jars and refreshes in equal measure - always interesting! Breakfast was is a buffet of selections to suit everyone (but at Euro30 each we probably wouldn't have bothered had it not been included). Just home and looking forward to our next stay! Well done and thank you.

My friend and I have just returned from three nights at this famous hotel. It is in a fantastic position on the promenade and is very close to bus routes and the city both old and new.

Our room was very nice and spotlessly clean with ample wardrobe space. We did have a problem with our toilet but it was dealt with very quickly and efficiently.

We had a meal the first night in La Rotonde which was very good although we did wait a very long time for firstly a menu and then the food. The staff were kept very busy and it seemed to be the kitchen that caused the long wait for food. The steak and sauce were delicious and proved to be a good choice.

The breakfast was a different matter. The cooked food was so greasy looking we choose not to eat it. The rest of the breakfast was of a good standard and the porridge was delicious.

The hotel interior was quite spectacular and ranged from beautiful to quirky and tacky. We felt it was like staying in a museum. Our favourite part of the hotel was the downstairs area and we loved the décor in the toilets as they were so pretty.

We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Nice. We thought the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: We had a partial sea view from our room on the fourth floor and it was very quiet.

The Negresco is a bit special - as our taxi driver said on the way to the airport, and indeed it is:
- Where else do you find a hotel which is like an art gallery and Ruritanian palace all rolled into one?
- Where else would you find a lift with its original mechanical control and where the outer door opens outward mechanically - like a jackinthebox on its side?
And it is extraordinary - if a bit bizarre at times, The staff are very good. The decor is unique and the public rooms are not like anything else in Nice (or possibly France).

So why only three stars? Well my first and only real test of a hotel is whether I can get a good night's sleep there. And in the room I was allocated I couldn't. It looked out over the ballroom roof - which was noisy with a mechanical hum all night. The bathroom seemed to be next to some form of pumping room, which was hot and noisy with a mechanical hum all night. And one of the corners in the bedroom was noisy with ......... (you've got the idea).

My brother and I stayed three nights - the hotel is one of the few in Nice offering twin bedded rooms - though annoyingly only one key per room. The first night was a right off for sleep - too hot, too loud. The second and third nights got by, just, with the air-conditioning turned on full (still noisy but cooler).

The bedroom was very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean, the beds were fine, and the bathroom functional - though the drain cover in the shower seemed to slide aimlessly about the shower floor with no obvious way to connect it to the drain. The bathroom door 'sort of worked' but being locked in always remained a possibility. TV, Wifi and the safe all worked fine - though be sure to tick the tiny box on the wifi logon page. Oh, and that lift with the jackinthe box door ? Well there's only one main lift and it comes when and if it feels like it. Be prepared to wait a long time. There's another, smaller lift in a corridor opposite which is more reliable.

The bar and Rotonde restaurant were both excellent, but you don't need to stay in the hotel to enjoy these.

So was I glad I went ? Yes, it was an experience and I'm glad to have seen it.
Would I go back? No, I value my sleep too much.

Dear Happy_Pensioner_13,

Thank you for taking the time for leaving a comment about your recent stay at Le Negresco.

We have noted that you were happy with the majority of our services, but that your experience did not entirely meet your expectations.

We have taken good note of all your remarks concerning the room you stayed in and located over the ballroom roof. We very feel sorry about the bad sleep you encountered during those three nights and wished you shared this bad experience since the very first morning. Our front desk could have helped you to immediately change the room you were allocated. Your constructive comments have been passed on to the heads of department and we thank you for sharing your impressions so that we can continually improve service and comfort for our guests.

We hope to have the pleasure of serving you again in the near future and remain,

Yours sincerely,

A beautiful hotel. From our arrival, the staff made us feel so welcome. From reception, concierge, porters, housemaids, bar staff...they were so hospitable and attentive. Our rooms were immaculate and the decor was so pretty. The location was perfect; central, with the Promenade des Anglais on the doorstep. The flower market and Vielle Ville within an easy stroll away. Even the Chateau was amazingly accessible; along the promenade, an ascenseur to its heights for wonderful views (if you're not keen on the many steep steps) and then a leisurely stroll down. As I say; its hard to find fault, but if looking for perfection, then a decent hairdryer as Janie said, perhaps an alternative approach to breakfast ... it was a little 'squished' around the self serving areas in the brasserie and finally, perhaps the late night music in the bar could be a little more mellow (given that the bar had an elegant sophisticated ambience which was somewhat overwhelmed by the loud DJ delivered music which seemed more suited to a club). We loved the live Jazz music earlier in the evening which hit the right note in all senses. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for a lovely weekend.

Room Tip: The rooms advertised as 'partial sea view' have a good enough view of the sea.

The hotel, location and its staff are exceptional - totally customer service centric. The hotel is quirky and eclectic and the artwork is amazing. We'd booked for a girlie weekend and were in 'partial' seaview rooms on the second floor, but as you'll see from the enclosed picture, partial is a bit of an understatement! The included breakfast buffet was good albeit both days it took a while to get a full complement of cutlery and napkins on our table. The only other 'fault' with this 5 star property is the hairdryers. Each room (we had 4) was totally different in decor and furniture but all had one similarity - the hairdryers were pants! Tip: bring your own if you want to spend less than 1/2 hour blow drying your hair :-)

Dear Janie30,
Thank you for taking the time to post your great comment on Tripadvisor. We are delighted to hear that you and your friends spent such a good weekend in Nice at the Hotel Negresco and that you were pleased with your room and the view over the Massena Park and sea. We are sorry that you found the hairdryers were not ‘up to scratch’, but next time you come to stay with us, our housekeeper will be pleased to supply you with a hand held dryer.

Looking forward to welcoming you again soon,

Warmest regards,

Stayed for two nights with friends and could not have had a better experience (well perhaps tea making facilities in the room!). All the staff could not have been more friendlier, helpful or welcoming. Beautifully furnished rooms and public areas with antiques and art everywhere you turn. Very pretty carousel breakfast room and an excellent choice from the buffet. The bar area was lovely but the drinks were very overpriced and we could not justify spending so much on them so missed out on the opportunity to sit back and listen to the live music.

Dear Petite-Betite,

Thank you so much for your kind review. We are very happy to share with our teams your appreciation of their service as our guest’s satisfaction is our motivation.

We are very pleased to read that you enjoyed the decor of our rooms, our collection of art and breakfast served in our "carousel restaurant” La Rotonde.

We regret you did not manage to take advantage of our bar Le Relais – our prices are in tune with those of similar establishments and even with a soft drink or espresso, it would have been possible to enjoy the music. Perhaps another time !

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you to the Negresco again soon !

Yours sincerely,
