“Panoramic views of Nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2010

A Lovely and classy hotel in arguably the best site in Nice.

Friendly and professional staff who were always ready to help with a smile.

Excellent breakfast in a restaurant with sea vews.

Good quality rooms, we had a side sea view.

The roof top terrace and restaurant had a view to die for!

Prices are on the expensive side but we are talking luxury and the South of France!

Check-in was fast and smooth. We went right to a beautiful deluxe room with a fantastic view facing the gardens and the sea. In two blocks you are in the cafe and shopping districts. The gardens across the street with the water fountains and statues was beautiful. Walking up the promenade next to the blue sea, viewing the harbor, and then hiking up Castle Hill was fun. Old town was also nice to stroll through, shop, and dine.

Service was outstanding. Note: My Daughter had checked into the Le Meridian for her Honeymoon in Monaco the same night as our stay in Nice. The "Monaco" Le Meridien told them that the room they had reserved was sold out and downgraded them to another room. The Le Meridian staff helped us to resolve the situation in Monaco and my Daughter ended up staying in the room she initially reserved. Bottom line is stay in the Le Meridian in "Nice". It exceeded our expectations and gave us the flavor of France we dreamed of.

We decided to go to Nice for a girls weekend away. We choose this hotel as the photo's looked great on their website and it's a well known...When we checked in everything went smoothly although when we got to our room they had given us a double room when we had specifically requested a twin room and I had called the hotel a few days earlier to confirm this, so that was annoying as we had to go all the way down to the reception to request a twin room. They changed our room to a twin room and when we got to the new room our room keys didn't work , so we had to go all they way down to reception again...pretty frustrating and the staff were not apologetic at all. So eventually we got into our room and we were disappointed as the decor was very tired and the bathroom had mold in the tiles.. and the carpet was stained and faded not what you would expect for a 5 star hotel...we were staying in the Classic room, so I would highly recommend staying in the renovated rooms if you can, as this room was really quite disappointing. We were told our bags had been taken up to our room but they didn't arrive, so we called reception who said they would look into it, still nothing 20mins later...so we called them again and were told they had been taken to our original room..so they eventually had to send someone to collect them and bring them to us...all pretty unorganised. The next morning we got a shock, when we came back from breakfast to have our showers, but there was no hot water! A pipe had blown, so we were told there was no hot water in the whole hotel, and they hoped it would be fixed by that evening. That was really annoying as we had to go out all day without having a shower...very poor, and again not apologetic...Then the following day when we went down for breakfast there were no tables, so we had to wait for 15minutes, and what really annoyed us was that other people who came in after us and were also told to wait then were taken to a table before us, which was so wrong! These people were hassling them, but there has to be some order! I honestly don't know how this hotel copes in peak season. The breafast was fairly standard. One last complaint, the coffee in the hotel was sooooooooo expensive! We ordered 2 coffees and 1 Lemonade on the roof top which cost us 17.70Euro! Wow the most I have ever paid for a coffee. We had a look in the fitness centre..very basic, but I guess you don't really need it as you have the beach right there and we ran along the path by the beach. Overall I wouldn't stay here again... I would look for a smaller boutique hotel or if you are staying longer than a weekend, definately get an appartment. This hotel is in a great location, close to the beach, old town and shops, just don't have high expectations of the hotel's service.

Stayed here for 2 nights from Oct 18th - 20th and had specifically requested a King Size bed with my 2.5 year old son with us. We got in quite late since the strike in France resulted in the trains getting cancelled. Reached our room which was rather small and very average for the prominent address and name of the hotel - we were so tired we wanted to go to sleep...enter the bed and surprise, the king size bed platform actually holds a queen size mattress!!! What point was that...it's now 1am and I'm calling the front desk. The gentleman there on the night of Oct 18th was supportive but couldn't do much at all. Being an SPG member I had made some requests given that this was our 5th anniversary celebration trip, but nonetheless nothing came of that. The gentleman made efforts to get us a nice room in the end, which had a balcony and partially faced the sea...much better room.

Location was great, the McDonalds with free wifi is a plus. Due to the short stay did not use the pool on the roof but did see it - looked good. Parking very expensive at 23 Euros a night; good service effort from the staff.

Dissapointments - hotel bed (why would you use a King Frame for a Queen mattress!) and no wifi even in the common areas.

Would probably try the Four Points Sheraton the next time in Nice since am an SPG member....had expected a little bit more than what was there...but to be honest, the short stay and the location made up for it.

Stayed in a superior room with ocean view, but it was really a mix of city & ocean view, which was gorgeous. The bed faces the terrace and waking up to the view is exceptional. The room is clean, comfortable, and nicely layed out. If you have a car, don't bother valeting; self park in the garage - the hotel has a dedicated elevator. The roof top pool is nothing to write home about - it's so small that it's not worth it.

Le Meredien Nice, give you the feeling of luxury by the moment the bell boys take care of your luggage at arrival, until they put it into a taxi when you leaving.
Sitting on your room at the terrasse looking over the sea, fantastic.
The staff is very competent and very helpfull.
We also reccomend the bar, for starting and/or ending the evening.
Thierry, Lucienne, Julien and all the others take very good care of you.
Drinks to recomend:
Champagne Frambois
Ginger Grazias
Vodka cocalight "special edition".

Great location. Fair price for the quality of hotel. Like the pool at the top. Don't like the smell in the halls and the annoying music in the elevators. The rooms are clean and the service good. For a European hotel in this area and in this price range it's tough to beat. Easy walk to just about everything. There is an ATM machine about one block northeast. The fitness room is open even when the spa is closed, just use the door on the south side.
