we didn't pay for the nicer view ocean front rooms, as we were leaving on a 10 day ocean cruise the next day. in any event, the rooms are the same, modern and nice enough; better than decent linens and pretty good bath. room was a little small but fine.

the location as has been stated is away from town and a good walk into the old area. you can see planes from the pretty hotel balcony but we didn't hear them.

terriffic little bakery for breakfast behind the hotel instead of the hotel rip off breakfast prices.

what I didn't like about the hotel is the staff were zombies; nobody had any passion they just went thru the motions without any desire to extend themselves or do more than the necessary.

I'd only return here as a stop over or if nicer hotels were full.

The hotel is directly opposite the promenade which was very nice!

Upon check-in the staff promptly checked us in. The room was spacious with a tv, mini bar, fridge, bath robes and bathroom toilettries. The room was very clean!

The bed was very comfortable, the window could be opened so you can enjoy the fresh air.

There is a gorgeous pool on the roof which overlooks the promenade.

Free internet in the room is available. The downside was the hotel does not lend out universal plugs so you must bring your own or pay $15 euros for one.

The hotel is a healthy 45 mins walk into the Old Town, or you can take a bus from the front or behind the hotel which takes about 15 mins.

A supermarket is a 10 minute walk away. Breakfast at the hotel is lovely witha large array of hot food such as eggs to order etc and cold food with yoghurt, fruits, pastries, cheese and cold meats etc.

You can take a hotel shuttle bus to the hotel.

Travel to Cannes or Monaco on a bus which is only 1.10 euro. Trip to Cannes takes 1 hr and Monacco around 45 minutes.

Overall a pleasant stay with Radisson Blu.

We stayed here for three nights in July 2009 for a few nights away after our wedding in the UK, it was part of a package from Easyjet. The hotel is not too far from the airport and is close enough to town to walk. Upon arrival we were greeted with genuinely friendly staff and the check in was fast and efficient. The rooms are really well maintained, the decor is kind of 80's sheik but the bathroom and room are were both well proportioned.
The hotel offers chairs and restaurant service at the beach which was excellent. The drinks and food are very good. My only small nit pick is charging 20 euros a day for a chair. The hotel also has a bar with food and a fantastic pool on the roof, well worth the stay for that alone. The entire beach in Nice is large pebbles not great on the feet so the hotel has matting down around he loungers and corridors to the showers, restrooms and restaurant.
The hotel sauna/spa is also very good, we spent a lot of time in the roomy sauna and steam rooms. There is also a well appointed small gym as well.

Throughout the year, I organise several short break holidays for a group of like minded friends. The timing of the holidays are based upon birthdays, anniversaries etc of members of the group. January each year, see us packing our bags and jetting off somewhere to celebrate the wedding anniversary of one of the couples in the group.
This January we decided to pay Nice in the South of France a visit.

Before deciding upon the hotel to be used, I always visit Trip Advisor and the actual hotel's own web site to get a balanced view as to whether the hotel will meet our expectations.

For some time now, we as a group have taken to using the Radisson Hotel group for our hotel accomodation. That is because it is felt by the group that the hotels within the chain offer a very high standards of service, cleanliness and supberb locations. With all that in mind, I chose the Radisson Blu Hotel located on the Boulevard des Anglais as our base for the latest short break.

We travelled from Gatwick to Nice and , as is our normal practice, we used the local bus service to get us to the hotel. The bus fare is four Euros for a 24 hour ticket, which means you can get on or off buses as many times as you like within a 24 hour period (good for getting 'downtown'). Excellent value for the money.

It's not until you arrive outside the hotel on the Boulevard that you realize the hotel is not that far from the airport.

I had pre booked rooms with balconies overlooking the Mediterranean. They were a little difficult to find on the web site I used to book the rooms, but it was worth every ounce of effort!

As soon as you enter the hotel entrance you are struck by the size and brightness of the place. It is open, spacious, immacutely clean and there is 'a buz' in the reception area with people moving about, both staff and guests.

The reception area is clearly marked and the staff were extremely efficient when dealing with our reception. They were aware of our pending visit and I was met by the Operation Manager, Monsieur Pecorella who personally welcomed us to the hotel. After the formalities of signing in, we went up to the sixth floor to our rooms. As we walked down the corridor to our romms,we were strcuk by the light and airy decor and the smartness of the building.

Upon opening the door into our room, and then moving out onto our own personal balcony (with table and chairs) we were met with the wonderful view of the Mediterranean below us. Breathtaking!

The room was a good size and well decorated (very modern style and colours). The bathroom area was also spacious and spotlessly clean and fully equipped. The bed was out of this world!

Lying on the bed were our white bath robes and slippers. On the table was a hand written welcome note from Monsieur Pecorella together with drinks and sweets.Everything was in place to make guests feel special, which we did!

Although the Promenade des Anglais carries a huge volume of traffic, moving both into and out of Nice city, the triple glazed french windows totally blocked out the noise. Even when aircraft, taking off from the airport glided across the bay enroute to some other destination in the world, they could not be heard. There was no noise from adjoining rooms or hotel machinary either. A total paradise.

The hotel has an open air pool and fitness facilities on the 8th floor which one can imagine are well used during the height of the season.

The restaurant is spacious and the breakfast was excellent. The selection of food was huge and the staff were very attentive.

Being responsible for leading the group, I research the area we are travelling to, but there are always questions needing answers, such as twhere to eat, what to see; details of which can only be obtained from local knowledge. The Concierge staff were first class dealing with my enquiries.

It had been decided whilst enroute to the hotel, to hire a car for our stay. That is something that is normally done from home, long before we travel on our breaks. However this time it was an impromptu decision. The Concierge staff were excellent . Not only did they arrange the hire almost at the drop of a hat, but quite unsolicited, produced a map and identified on it, places of interest to visit. One of those was a small walled town to the west of Nice, called St Pauls. Breathtakingly beautiful, and a wonderful place to see all forms of art! We would never have found it, had it not been for the hotel staff drawing it to our attention.

Another indication of the high level of service and attention by staff is the fact that bath towels are changed both in the morning and evening.

The location of the hotel is such that you could walk into the city of Nice itself along the Boulevard, if you felt energetic. Takes about 45 minutes at a stroll. Conversely, there is a frequent bus service (Nos. 9 and 10) both to and from the city, with bus stops almost outside the hotel. The last bus back from the city is about 9.30pm after which its taxis. They are easy to find near the main Casino building and cost about 15 Euros.

Due to inclement weather back in England (snow) our flight was cancelled and there was the prospect of having to stay in Nice for a further 6 days until a vacancy became available with the Flight Carrier we used (Easy Jet).

When the reception staff were asked if we could stay for the extended period, we were offered the rooms we had vacated that morning. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

In summary.

Yes, the hotel is a little more expensive than some in the area, but the location, facilties, level of service, cleanliness and attention to the wants/needs of guests easily outweigh the cost. Would we come back here to this hotel again? Absolutely Yes!.

Our next trip will be Coatia. Thankfully there is a Radisson Hotel in the city we intend to visit.
