Just got back from an excellent break on the Cote D'azure with my other half and 6 year old daughter. Stayed in a Junior suite for 5 nights at the West End Hotel. Room set on two floors, not huge but a perfect base and always spotless when we returned each evening from our days out. Comfortable double bed with en-suite on top floor and television. Small living room downstairs with sofa bed, table and chairs, toilet and bath, tv and fridge.
Breakfast every morning is what you would expect from a 4 star hotel and we all found it very good although a little pricey. However our 6 year old was not charged for breakfast which softened the blow! Staff were very polite.
If like us you are going to relax and get some sun this hotel is perfectly located. Opposite you have the Promenade Des Anglais where there is a public beach and a private beach (both pebble). The private beach is called the Blue Beach and cost us 18 euros each, discounted from 25 euros as we were staying at the West End Hotel. We always got 2 beds (36 euros) and they served the 3 of us well. We were in the sea the majority of the time. There is a lifeguard and some inflatables which our daughter loved. The sea was warm (August) and clean.
The South of France is not a cheap place! If you are on a budget do not go. I raised my eyes at some of the prices in the restaurants but I was not expecting a cheap holiday. There are plenty of good places to eat - along the front by the hotel is expensive but go a few streets back and head towards the old town and the prices are more in line with London.
If you get bored of the beach take a train to Boit - there is an excellent water park there and we had a great day out. A day pass for three was about 70 Euros and the train journey which hugs the coastline took about 20 minutes and cost us 30 Euros.
We found the Hotel West End a pleasant place to stay and for us it was all about the location. This Hotel is in a prime one for enjoying the beach and exploring Nice.
