The hotel has an excellent location on a main road that goes straight down to the old section or over to the beach or up toward the museums and the Russian church. The room was spacious but dated. The sink in our room had a small crack and enamel was off the tub so that at first glance it appeared as if something had been spilled or someone was sick! The hair dryer was the old vacuum cleaner hose type and barely got hot enough to dry your hair. The seat on the toilet wasn't properly attached and was off center. Breakfast was bleak,,oozy eggs, yogurt, almost raw bacon, cold cuts. They didn't wipe down the tables after they had been used and didn't have placemats so if you didn't eat in the first wave; it was hard to locate a table that was crumb free even though it had been reset! Most of the people at the desk were very helpful;especially in offering directions, places to eat etc. One sunday morning a gentleman at the desk told me that NO INFORMATION CENTER was open on sunday. He also smugly told us that most of the shops in the old town would also not be open but some of the museums might be. We started walking when I spotted the sign for the info center...it was right up the hill and around the corner from the hotel and next to the train station and it is OPEN every day! That said, we went in and gathered some info...the old town shops would be open..hmm and some museums are free on Sunday. WE headed to the wonderful Chagall museum and spent a few hours . From here we returned to the hotel and had a snack before going to the old town....which was hopping! I can understand if someone at the desk is new and doesn't know the answer to your question but the guy at the desk was curt, unfriendly and gave us incorrect information. On the positive side, the hotel is set up with a modern decor and there were plenty of elevators for those moving luggage. The best things about this hotel was it's location....It is close to everything and the rooftop view at night was really nice; especially of the church across the street.We were on the side street so noise was not a problem despite there being traffic. I felt this was a 3 star hotel....just could not give it 4 stars .

Nice property where we stayed for 3 nights in the last week of July 2013. Awesome location of the hotel, close to almost everything: restaurants, tram station, railway station, shopping stores, etc. Decent comfortable room and with a tub in our Privilege Room. Very quick check-in and check-out with staff who were very helpful and could communicate well in English. My wife and I were quite satisfied with our stay and would stay again if back in Nice.

We've booked two standard rooms, one street side, one garden view room, on the non-smoking fourth floor. I have to say the rooms were very disappointing. The garden room looked like it hasn't been refurbished since the seventies, had this awful wood paneling on the walls, the other room smelled of cigarette smoke and the carpet was probably the most worn I have ever seen in any hotel. Another thing was that the shower had this strange set up, the bath and shower are combined as one, and there is a shower screen installed, but it is installed in a useless space where the water doesn't even reach, while the spot where it is most needed, there is no screen there, so pretty much half the water just gets sprayed on the bathroom floor... At least there is a floor towel provided. The design of the bathroom has not been thought of properly...

On the good side, the beds were comfortable, the sheets (and overall the room) were clean. Rooms were made up well every day. There is a small fridge with a complimentary bottle of water, replaced every day. The wardrobe is big enough and there is a safe in the room, it's free. We didn't watch the TV at all, the screen was very tiny.

The location of this hotel is good. Technically in the centre of Nice, but it is still a good 15-20 minute walk from the old town, where all the good restaurants are. The beach is similar distance. A good thing about this hotel is the roof top. There is a bar there that is open late, and the pool is nice also. The roof top is higher than the buildings surrounding the hotel, so you get nice panoramic 360 degree view of the city, which I'd say is the main attraction of this hotel.

The staff were friendly, and always willing to help. Any questions we've had about the city, or train schedules or whatever, they always had a helpful answer.

Room Tip: The garden view rooms are quieter, however the street side rooms are bigger.

Individual, not in a group. Location, location, location-- the absolute best particularly convenient for trams and buses. However, the breakfast room does not open until 6:30. And then, not always at 6:30. We had an early train and finally at 6:40 went to the front desk to have them call and ask for the breakfast room to be opened. Unacceptable for a 4 star property. Not able to make any special arrangements. The other aggravating thing was the WIfi. It is free, BUT the way the system is set up, it kicks you off if you arent actively engaged for 5 minutes- and then you have to go through the whole log on process again. Ridiculously inconvenient. Our garden facing room was light and airy and we were pleased with that.

for the second time we stayed in this Mercure hotel, close to the avenue Jean Medecin, close to the public transport, tram, Railway stations, shopping center, including extensive bio food at La Vie Claire, good restaurants, vegan meals at Speakeasy both in rue Lamartine,
the hotel offers nice views from the roof terrace, bar and pool at the 8th floor;
friendly service at the reception and thanks to the manager the asian groups became their breakfast in a separate lounch giving more space and tranquillity for the other guests,
a 7 days card of the Lignes d'Azur at 15 euros gave us the possibility to visit a lot of nearby mountain villages, like, Coaraze, St Blaise, Peille, and with the CP chemin de fer de Provence to Annot, and Entrevaux,

Room Tip: prefer junior suite with terrace on the 6h or 7th floor

We booked a 'privilege' room with a balcony and were pleasantly suprised at the size. It had a huge bed , a small table and two chairs and a 'day bed' and large coffee table. The bathroom was spacious with two sinks and the balcony had a table and two chairs and a sun lounger. The breakfast was standard buffet style though one morning there was a problem with the food running out and not being replenished. The location was good - 5mins walk from the main railway stn and 10 mins walk from the sea front. The rooftop pool was quite small and unheated but there were loungers and parasols for sunbathing and a changing room and shower. No restaurant, just breakfast.
