“Great location, great hotel!”
Reviewed 8 July 2011

Me and my boyfriend stayed for 7 nights. On arrival we were welcomed with a bottle of Rose on ice with our luggage being brought up to room for us. The receptionist could not have been more helpful. He gave us lots of useful information about the Nice, highlighting important areas on the map, which came in handy on many occasions! The room was pleasant. Some reviews say the rooms were dated, however we disagree. When on holiday what does it matter if the wall paper is dated!? It was clean and spacious and that's all that really matters. Breakfast was good however some mornings it did did get a bit busy with not enough tables for all guests. We would highly recommend this hotel and of we were to return to Nice we would most defiantly stay again.

Spent 6 nights at the Le Grimaldi and had a good stay, the staff were very helpfull and the room was clean and spacious, good location for beach, train, old part of Nice and shopping. Would use the hotel again.

Room Tip: The beach package was good value

Our party of six (one couple, my two sisters, my nephew and I) booked 3 rooms here on our recent trip. The primary reasons I booked the Grimaldi were that it seemed to provide decent quality, good location, and a reasonable price--a very difficult trifecta in Nice, where it's easy to find hotels that meet any two of those criteria, but not all three. As some other reviewers have noted, the interior looks a little bit dated, but it is clean, well maintained, and and provided decent space. The bathrooms were spacious by French standards, with full sized tub/shower combos, but, as you often see in France, the shower wasn't optimal because only a small glass shield was provided to keep you from splashing water everywhere while showering. Newer, more up to date properties in France seem to be eliminating this problem. My nephew and I stayed in a room on the 5th (American 6th) floor, right above that of my sisters, and at one point, after we took back to back showers, they experienced some water dripping through the ceiling of their bathroom. Only happened once, so I can't really be sure why it occurred.

The location of this hotel and reasonable price were really what drew me to it, and the location was all that I could have expected. A five minute walk to the beach, 10 minutes to the train station, and less than five minutes to both the tram stop and the pedestrian zone on Rue Massena loaded with restaurants. It is extremely convenient for anyone walking Nice and relying on public transportation.

I give it a weak four stars--I think it's above average, but not close to being an exceptional property. If I go back to the Riviera, I hope to be able to rent a house somewhere like Villefranche, but if I needed a hotel in Nice and had the same budget constraints, I would stay here again.

I had three days in Nice between business meetings and stayed at Grimaldi. Unless you are going to go big and stay in an ocean view room, I think Le Grimaldi is an excellent choice. It is on a quiet street (again, for Nice), it's clean, it's charming, the people are nice. Is it luxurious - no, but I don't think many hotels in Nice are...maybe I'm wrong. I had a second floor room with double doors that opened out over the church across the street. I would definitely recommend.

The one thing I did not like about this hotel was the 15E breakfast - i had one coffee and one piece of bread each morning and still had the 15E breakfast charged every morning. Ridiculous! Also, the coffee is some of the worst I've ever had...and no cream, just milk. Would recommend going out for coffee and breakfast!

The hotel was away from the traffic in the centre, and our room was opposite a lovely Church. We came here for our very special wedding 30th Anniversary and the Hotel knew this, but when we arrived there were no flowers, champagne or card in the room and no acknowledgement that this was a special occasion which was a disappointment. The hotel staff were pleasant. Breakfast basic. The bathroom we had in room 67 was fantastic and very spacious and clean. No complaints. The hotel very clean. We were in Nice for 5 days which was too long. The shuttle service from and to Hotel was a little late but still good. We wont be going back to Nice again as its very expensive , we went to the local supermarket to buy wine and packed lunch as charging 25 euros in restaurants for a bottle of wine ! We thought Nice was very commercialised and not like the France we know.

Room Tip: . Ask for upgrade rooms ending in a number 7.

We stayed for two nights here and we really enjoyed our stay. Based on the hotel reviews, we understood that there were two separate buildings - one that is truly a 4-star hotel and one that is more a budget hotel but we didn't pay for a 4-star hotel (we paid 145 euros per night) and didn't feel at all like we were on the budget side of the hotel.

The location is perfect - it is a very easy stroll down to the beach and about an 8-minute walk to the train station. The only time we had to use a taxi was to go to the train station because we had heavy luggage and the trip for the short ride cost us 15 euros. We were told that taxis are very expensive in Nice so we were warned by the hotel clerk prior to booking.

L'Occitane amenities were a nice touch. The bathroom was spacious and clean (except for one corner of the shower that seemed to have a massive build-up of black soap scum of some sort). The air conditioning worked just fine for us and we didn't have any problems with noise except for when guests in the nearby rooms entered or exited their rooms. The front desk was super helpful with any directions or recommendations. The internet worked perfectly. We dined at the tiny Italian restaurant next door on our last night and found the meal to be quite pleasant although nothing spectacular but it was affordable and comfortable.

As a side note, we got pickpocketed in Nice while walking along the shopping street. If you normally keep your wallet in the back pocket of your trousers, make sure you either button up the pocket or find another place to hold your wallet. There is police presence in the touristy areas but the thieves are really skilled and we'd hate to see any other traveler have their wallet stolen in Nice.

We stayed in a suite on the top floor and had excellent views of the city and mountains. The balcony was fantastic and the 3 of us could sit and have a vino in comfort and smell the delicious aromas of the nearby restuarants. Bellisimo! The room was spacious with two bathrooms, of which one included a bath. A short walk to the beach and Promande de Anglais the many restuarants and bars. Breakfast was amazing and worth the additional charge. The staff all spoken excellent english and were extremely helpful. Would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Nice. Keep in mind accomadtion in Nice is a little more expensive

Room Tip: Ask for the suite on the top floor.
