“Great location, great hotel!”
Reviewed 12 May 2009

The rooms were a little small but they were clean, well serviced and the bathroom was just perfect. The staff were excellent, had breakfast a few mornings - not great value but good selection. The location is great, lots of nice restaurants around and great shops. Got a Christmas shopping package so the price was very good.

We stayed at Le Grimaldi in April 2009 (4 nights, during Orthodox Easter) and we loved it!
First of all, the hotel is really well located, close to the promenade, the Old Town, the Market and the Massena Square. Also, it's close (walking distance) to the main train station (one can catch a train to Grasse, Cannes, Eze etc) and to the bus terminal (buses to Monaco etc).
Secondly, we loved the room (27) - really comfy with great view on a church tower and a big bathroom (shower & bathtub).
The staff was very friendly and helpful, also. The hotel had 2 PCs next to the reception desk used for free internet access. To use one's own laptop, internet cards were sold at the reception and could be used in the lobby or in the room for those with good laptops (wireless had good signal up to the 2nd floor).

The breakfast was not a great display of choices, but this is usual for most French hotels - croissants, jams, eggs, cheeses, pressed ham, yogurt, fresh fruit, corn flakes.

The only not-so-good thing was the wooden floor in the room, a little bit too squeaky.

When thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Grimaldi. On arrival our room wasn't ready but the receptionist recommended to walk to the flower market and we spent the whole morning in old Nice. Had lunch in a small family run restaurant called Acchiardo. To be recommended!
Our room - no. 135 - was bright, nicely decorated, of a reasonable size and spotless clean. We had booked a package on the hotel's website which included breakfast and a day at the beach.
Outstanding service. Nice lady serving breakfast, and reception staff were always happy to help with train timetables and restaurant recommendations.
We've also appreciated the free internet connection and free printing of our boarding pass.
We will be back!

Easter 2008 we stayed at The Windsor Hotel but opted for Le Grimaldi this Easter because of the special offer on their website, we stayed 5 nights but only paid for 4! The hotel were most helpful in booking restaurants in advance of our visit and the room was very well equiped with one exception the hairdryer lead was not long enough to enable one to look in mirror and dry hair at the same time but hopefully that will be sorted by our next visit. The complimentry bottle of water on arrival was most welcome after our long flight and the beds were very comfortable. The location was excellent, room could have been better soundproofed but that's a problem almost everywhere these days. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

I was very disappointed with Le Grimaldi. It is definetely not a 4 star hotel and not a good value for the money. The room is very basic and the carpeting is old. The front desk is seldom willing to help. Besides, everything is extra: wifi (only in the lobby and very expensive), breakfast at 15 euros per person. They even charged for a stamp (0.85!!) . There is also no parking place, you have to use the public one nearby: 23 euros/day. Never again!

I agree with the other reports - great location - very efficient and helpful staff; but I am not sure the hotel provided us with the stay we wanted for the price. Fair enough Nice and the South of France are expensive so the hotel was better value than the larger hotels - and is it is a B & B. The lobby area was nicely decorated though not extensive; the lift small but then this is an old building and not a real problem. The beds were very comfortable; the bedroom was a fair size but had no comfortable soft furnished chair or small sofa; indeed the only wooden chair and footstool were about to collapse! The bathroom was well done; with good complimentary products - but neither the room or bathroom were as clean as they should have been - not dirty - just in need of a little more care and attention by housekeeping. I am sorry to say the sound proofing room to room was totally non exhistant - take ear plugs! Would we stay there again - probably not - would we recommend it, not too sure? Possibly with the above reservations = it was a nice hotel in Nice but not what we were looking for, others may disagree and love it.
