“Another consistently good experience with Ibis”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2009

We have stayed in quite a few Ibis hotels and this was one of the better of a consistently good and trustworthy brand. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, go elsewhere; however, if you want a comfortable, clean and very reasonably priced hotel, with easy access to the city centre then this is a perfect choice. Despite some questionable reviews about the area, we found that there was nothing particularly dodgy about the neighbourhood apart from a few very inconspicuous sex shops.

Room was comfortable, if a tad small, and a bit noisy if you opened the window but otherwise peaceful. Fitted with air conditioning unit.

Breakfast was a standard ibis "all you can eat" continental

Finally, the receptionist who checked us in was very friendly, offering us a city map and advice about sightseeing without us asking.

Arrived late into Nice airport.
took the airport bus into the city (you need to mention you want to go to the centre train station not the bus 1!!)
Rest of my family were already at the hotel.
You get what you pay for here. Basic clean room with all the facilities you would need. (it is small, but we were only staying 1 night)
Pool was an added bonus for the kids.

Reason we picked this hotel was that we were taking the train the next day.

free wifi, bar open all night, cant fault this hotel at all.

fyi tramstop nearby for a quick ride down to the beach!!

We stayed at the hotel first about 5 years ago and it was good then but it is now so much better since its upgrade. Rooms are clean, bright and now with a flat screen TV and a really good shower. a real pleasure to stay for a week in November 2009.

When I first chose Ibis Nice Centre Gare, it was mostly because of its proximity to the Vieux Nice and the beach, and also because of its affordable price for young adults (50euros/night if you book in advance, 90euros/night if you book before 2 weeks or less). I was a little bit worried of the neighbourhood at night (worries generated by other reviews) but it appeared to be very calm. A sex shop faces the hotel but no disturbances come from it.
Plus, the hotel is right next to the train station, which is very useful since in Nice there is a train ticket, called ticket Isabelle (12euros). The ticket is valid for one day and during that day you can use the train as many times as you want with one condition : you cannot use TGV. Therefore, during our stay in Nice, we also went to Cannes, and Ventimille in Italy. Antibes, Monaco are also included.
The hotel is 15 min-walk from the beach and the Vieux Nice (historical center).
It seemed to us that the hotel was completely renovated. The room are a little small but very comfortable & clean. However, some additional closets wouldn't be bad!!!
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is rich and costs 7,5 euros. But I assure you that you can eat in the morning and spend all the day without eating till diner.
There is a pool, but if during your vacation you like to spend some time in the pool, this is not a hotel for you. The pool is small and the transats are insufficient. Afterall, in my opinion, if you're coming to Nice, you CAN't be hanging in the hotel. The beaches in Nice are clean and the water is amazing. Plus, you have a lot of water sports.
In the VIeux Nice, don't miss the Italian Icecream maker. You'll find there incredile tastes such as Tomato&Basil, Lavender, Regliss, Tagada, Coca cola, ginger etc....
To conclude, Nice is a must see and Ibis Centre Gare, an hotel to remember !!!
If you like churches, behind Ibis Centre Gare, you'll find the biggest Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia. It's an "Oeuvre d'art". For guys, come in pants as shorts ae not allowed ;)
The nightlife in Nice is not proeminent. If you're a clubber, you'll find Cannes more at your taste.
During the night, you'll eat at a fish restaurant (not to miss), you'll walk along the beach, you'll discover the Vieux Nice and its heteroclites open air markets. For pub lovers, the Vieux Nice is the place to go.

This Ibis is usually reasonably priced, as it it right next to the main train station - good for convenience, but supposed to be a bit of a rough area at night (I did not find it so).

Rooms are small as per Ibis, but clean and look like new. New a/c in the room. Only storage space was a rod for hanging clothes and 2 shelves - be prepared not to unpack your suitcases. New LCD TV (bring video jack to watch from your laptop :-).

Swimming pool is a bit small and shabby but OK. Staff is quick, efficient and friendly. Individual safe deposit boxes available.

Stayed at this hotel with a group of friends for a wedding over the August Bank holiday. Excellent value for money paid €150 for 3 nights. OK the rooms are a bit small and the bathroom is tiny but all as expected. Free wi fi throughout the hotel along with a small bar and swimming pool with terrace, could do with a few more chairs / loungers but OK for a quick dip. Located immediately adjacent to the main railway station and next to Bus Stop for route 99 which is direct to the airport. About a 15 min flat walk to beach and shopping area. Can't comment on food as didn't eat there, Fantastic cheap cafe located right of the hotel about 200m on the left ideal for a good coffee and croissant. Very helpful staff. Its not 5 star but for the money you would struggle to beat it

I am just back from staying 10 day in this hotel and found it absolutely perfect for our holiday. We were there to lap up the sun, sights & atmosphere of Nice and to travel along the French Riviera. The location of the hotel was absolutely perfect for this.
It was in walking distance to Promenade D'Anglais, Beach, pedestrian area and Old town (15 minutes or so). Alternatively you could take a short walk to the tram and for €1 get to these areas.
The hotel is about 500 metres from the train station which services most areas of France and into Italy. We did trips along the coast to Vintimilgia (Italy), Monaco, Eze, Antibes, Cannes and St Raphael.....time ran out for all our other adventures! We also spent time roaming about Nice aswell! And being so close to the train station enabled us to do all of this.
The hotel itself was very clean, airconditioned (which was a life saver coming in from the heat of the August temperatures). It had a bar, free wi-fi access if you had a laptop or internet phone, and the bedrooms while small were clean and very functional with comfy bed, air con, and tv. There was a restaurant but we never used it for any meal - so many other places close by to go to so cannot comment on that but it looked very nice.
The cherry on the cake was the pool and sit out area, we only arrived on spec so we had no idea there was a pool and upon looking out our window and seeing it confirmed our decision on staying there. It was small and had not many loungers around it but it was perfect and It was great for a city hotel to be able to come back and relax, cool down & recharge your batteries before heading out in the evening.
Outside the hotel is not exactly the best of areas - like in any city the train station area is always abit drab and across the road is a sex cinema and down a bit a sex shop - these did not infringe on you and apart from the signs you would not of known.
We came back many nights late (after midnight) and we never felt in fear at all and we had no problem strolling about at night.
The bus to the airport is just beside the hotel too. The number 99 is an airport express and for €4 and about 15 minutes you can be delivered right to the airport - terminal 1 or 2.
All in all it is a brilliant city hotel and would reccomend it to anyone and will go back again.
