“Clean, but VERY DATED. Staff were excellent”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

Just got back from a weekend at the Boreal in Nice. The hotel is some way from the sea front and the old town. It is opposite the Nicetoille Shopping Center so is in a good area for that, but not in a tourist area of Nice, so day or night you have to walk some way to where you want to go. In other reviews they say it's near to the old town, etc..., NO IT'S NOT, it's 3 tram stops to the Old Town or ~15 mins walk to the sea front and there are not many restaurants near the hotel.

The hotel is very clean, but very old, I would suspect the rooms have not been refurbished in 20 years with old anaglypta / wood chip wallpaper. The bathroom was good and well maintained with a good shower.

The TV had local digital channels and with a little work I could get some of the French channels in English.

As Nice is very expensive, the price for the room was ok, but certainly there is nothing romantic about the hotel. I definitely could not recommend this hotel for children due to the very small rooms. 50cl bottle's of water were €2, breakfast which was a basic continental (croissant, bread, coffee, cereal, yoghurt) was €10.

As helpful as the staff were, I could not recommend the hotel due to the age and location.

If you do stop there, get the 98 bus from the airport and get off at the Le Meridien Hotel, it's then 10 mins walk to the hotel.

Hotel was ok, nothing more. Good central location, friendly, helpful staff. Room clean enough although carpet could have done with a good shampoo! Breakfast was fine, but nothing special. Housekeeper called 3 times to room on our day of departure long before check out time which was off-putting.

Room Tip: Room was at back with no outlook but quiet which suited us fine.

A group of us have just returned from a fab holiday in Nice. We stayed at the Hotel Boreal for 7 nights and really enjoyed it.

Simple but clean and comfortable rooms with cleaning/towel service everyday, aircon, tea/coffee and it was very quiet. The hotel staff (especially Serg and Julia) were extremely helpful and pointed out places of interest and would help with anything. The hotel is in a great location - 10 min walk to train station, beach and all the shops and restaurants are on the doorstep.

We chose to go for breakfast only in our package and the breakfast was really nice with plenty of choices to pick from.

Nice itself is a lovely place. There is no shortage of restaurants or cafes and its a very relaxed atmosphere, - it wasnt full of tacky 'brits aboard' which was a refreshing change.

Day trips on the train to cannes (40 mins) and monaco (30min) were really easy and well worth a visit.

Nice and hotel boreal is definately worth a visit and cant wait to return in the future.

I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone planing a city break in nice. The rooms were always impecibaly clean and the service was excellent. Its in the heart of the city and everything is literally at your doorstep. If you are looking to travel to monte carlo or cannes which I would highly recommend the hotel is 10mins from the main train station and the staff are extremely helpful and english speaking which is a plus for someone visiting france for the first time. It is situated right infront of the shopping mall and is also 5 mins from the beach and the best bars and nightclubs. Although the rooms were small as a party of three we slept comfortably and it wasn't a problem. There is also a computer in the front lobby and wifi in the lobby. Will most definately be visitng nice again and this hotel is at the top of my agenda.

Room was small but clean. Washroom was large. Staff was very courteous and spoke reasonably good English. Close to railway station if you would like to visit Monaco. Walking distance from other attractions like Place Massena, Promenede des Anglais and St Nicholas Orthodox Church.
