Just got back from a weekend at the Boreal in Nice. The hotel is some way from the sea front and the old town. It is opposite the Nicetoille Shopping Center so is in a good area for that, but not in a tourist area of Nice, so day or night you have to walk some way to where you want to go. In other reviews they say it's near to the old town, etc..., NO IT'S NOT, it's 3 tram stops to the Old Town or ~15 mins walk to the sea front and there are not many restaurants near the hotel.
The hotel is very clean, but very old, I would suspect the rooms have not been refurbished in 20 years with old anaglypta / wood chip wallpaper. The bathroom was good and well maintained with a good shower.
The TV had local digital channels and with a little work I could get some of the French channels in English.
As Nice is very expensive, the price for the room was ok, but certainly there is nothing romantic about the hotel. I definitely could not recommend this hotel for children due to the very small rooms. 50cl bottle's of water were €2, breakfast which was a basic continental (croissant, bread, coffee, cereal, yoghurt) was €10.
As helpful as the staff were, I could not recommend the hotel due to the age and location.
If you do stop there, get the 98 bus from the airport and get off at the Le Meridien Hotel, it's then 10 mins walk to the hotel.
