“Diabolical, and surrounding area just as bad”
Reviewed 23 December 2010

This hotel was one of my worst experiences while travelling. Pokey, spartan rooms, low standard of housekeeping, rude staff and an poor location combine to make this an awful dive. Stopped getting up for breakfast after 2 attempts...where are all the croissants, cheeses and confitures that usually make a French petit dejeuner so special?
There's only one restaurant within walking distance that's acceptable and some of the side steets are dodgy...urban decay, undesirable charachters etc.
When we stayed here, the municipal authorities were constructing a tram line that would run down to the Old Town, so that would be a plus as really that's where you'd want to be in Nice.
If you read my other contributions you will hopefully observe that I try to be fair and balanced when reviewing - so please heed me when I say that this place is dismal

This place was really nice. It was clean, comfortable, and the staff spoke good English and was very welcoming. We only stayed one night and we didn't eat breakfast there, but we would stay there again if we went back to Nice. We had a three-person room for myself, my husband, and my sister and we were all quite comfortable. The room was clean and modern and the in-room bathroom was very nice. There were three drawbacks for us. First, it was a bit hard to find - the street name wasn't clearly labeled and it was a very small street (about 1/2 block) that was very easy to pass by. Second, it was quite busy at check-in and we had to wait for a long time. The staff was friendly but it seemed that they were under-staffed for the mid-summer rush. Finally, there was no A/C...although there was a nice big window and also a fan. All in all, a good experience!

We chose the hotel after a lot of research, we wanted somewhere reasonable price but clean and comfortable with breakfast. This delivered well. We were put in an apartment which gave good space, room s were very clean. reminded of student style accommodation but bed comfortable and water in bathroom hot. Breakfast was very good, Different breads, cheese, ham, salami, cereal, croissants, pain ou chocolat etc. tinned fruit and yogurt, orange juice and choice of hot drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very short walk to tram stop and ten minutes from station. If you want a decent base for a reasonable price and reasonable accommodation this fits the bill.

Spent 5 days at this hotel.
While the rooms are basic they are very clean, the staff are friendly, informative and the buffet breakfasts have a good variety.
The staff offered us 2 different rooms, one on the top floor which was an attic type room with a window on the roof the other was on the 3rd floor which though basic i stress again very clean and was adequate for our needs.
Take a hairdryer with you as none are provided.

HOW TO GET TO THE HOTEL
1. Buy a 7 day bus/tram ticket for 15 euro, the booking office you will find just to the right outside the exit door of the airport were the coaches are. This ticket is great value it will pay for your transport to and from the airport, all local buses and trams inside the town boundary.
2. Ater purchasing ticket get on the number 98 coach which will take you to the bus station in NICE.Remember to validate your ticket each time you get on board by pushing your ticket into a yellow machine which will read your ticket and give it back to you.
3 Get on the tram which is less than 100 yards from the bus station and get off at the LIBERATION stop.
4 After getting off at Liberation stop cross the road into Rue Thivin street walk approx 100 yards and the hotel is on the right.

PLACES TO VISIT
1 LA COLLINE NU CHATEAU
This is a beautiful park were you can spend a day relaxing. Some great views and lovely waterfall to see.
At the top of the park there is a small restaurant where you can buy a huge plate of chips for 2 and a caraffe of wine (2 thirds of a bottle)for 10 euro. You can take a seat outside and relax.
2 MONACO
For 1 euro you can get the bus in the bus station and spend the day in Monaco.
The changing of the guard takes place at the castle at 11.55am everyday.
From the wall surrounding the castle you can see part of the race track at Monte Carlo.
Visit the cathedral where Princess Grace and Prince Ranier are buried.
3 Take bus to Antibes or Cannes also 1 euro from bus station.
4 Spend day lazing on the stoney beach.
5 Shop to you drop.
6 Visit numerous museums and churches(The russian cathedral was the nicest).
7 A great restaurant not far from the hotel is one called Woodys which you will find on the Boulevard Joseph Garnier. Ample portions and reasonably priced.Wish i had spotted this one at start of holiday this was by far the best if you are into steaks, burgers etc.Very friendly atmosphere.

To sum up if you are looking for a cheap hotel and a relaxing city break this place is hard to beat.

This hotel suited us very well. Very clean room, no A/C, but on a low floor we didn’t need it, even in July. Great location near the tram. Friendly, English-speaking staff. Private parking at a reasonable price. No view of the water, of course, but as a budget option we highly recommend.

A nice no frill hotel tucked in the center of Nice, about 10min walking distance from the Gare Nice Ville(main train station). The hotelroom is small but clean. The room can get hot especially when the weather reaches 30 deg, coz only a small fan is supplied. However, I suppose you will be like me, who's there for the beach and the sun, so it doesn't matter alot. A very nice bakery is located around the corner, Zambetti, provides a more decent breakfast than the buffet provided in the hotel.
Oh, one point, the wifi is located only in the lobby area, and not in the room.

This hotel is lovely, for what you pay. We'd travelled to Nice on the train, and it is fairly easy to find and not a long way from the station. The staff were friendly and spoke English, and the hotel has a lift. The room was basic and had no wow factor, but it is no worse or no better than what you pay. We were disappointed that our room was not a double room as this was what we'd booked, and we were interested, if anything else, by the strange positioning of the toilet with its back to the side of the bath! There were no extras in the room, and no wardrobe, but there were narrow shelves for our stuff. There is a TV, but there were no English language channels. There were chunks out of the wall in some places, such as beneath the desk, where a plug was coming loose, and also behind one of the beds. The breakfast was very good, but wasn't included in the room rate, but had a great variety of breads, pastries and fruit, cheese, ham and yoghurt, and also hot drinks. This hotel is great on a budget, but is hardly romantic getaway to Nice stuff, and could easily be improved with small adjustments.
