A small quiet hotel with excellent views across Nice. Carole the receptionist was lovely recommending restaurants and booking us in if required, as our French isn't the best. If not travelling by car or taxi then the walk up the hill is a little challenging for those of us that aren't as fit as we should be but the hotel rewards you for the effort.

Overall we had a wonderful stay and would fully recommend it.

Room Tip: Sea view room a little more money but worth it

This hotel was just lovely. Excellent location, just outside the city centre, with an amazing view over Nice. The rooms are impecably decorated, and the owners are very friendly and helpful.

This extremely well run small hotel on the nice hillside is a gem. The staff serve with pride, the owner always available and an excellent mine host. Bedroom with a fabulous view over Nice and large, comfortable and spotlessly clean.

Although we were just 'passing through' and only had one night at this hotel we were very glad we chose to stay here.
Contrary to another review here we found it quite easily (we had the GPS) and got a park right outside the hotel. When we arrived we walked a few yards along the street and took in the great view over the whole of Nice. The peaceful location is due to the hotels proximity out of the city centre and yes, there are hills to negotiate to walk to town and back but they are in no way arduous. The hotel is in a pretty neighbourhood so the walk is actually very pleasant.
The hotel building has a nice style about it and it is comfortably furnished. The receptionist spoke good English and our check-in process was simple.
The breakfast room is light and airy and has a lovely outdoor terrace. The buffet was plentiful and good quality.
The room was a decent size and the beds were comfy. We didn't have a view as we were on the street side, ground floor but it didn't matter for our one night stay.

I chose the Petit Palais on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews and because I didn't want to stay in the noisy center of Nice. I was not disappointed! It's a great antidote to concrete box chain hotels, has great atmosphere and great views. Why does it have great views? It's in the neighborhood of Cimiez, which is hilly. This does not mean mountaineering, but it does mean that you have to be able to make it up and down moderately sloping streets. By the most direct route (get a map, and don't follow the winding avenue Bieckert down the hill!) it takes about 20 minutes to get to the Place Massena on foot. Cimiez is also mostly residential, so if you don't want a ten-minute walk to the nearest cafes or restaurants, you will have to rely on the hotel. Breakfast is an optional buffet, and there is a pretty good choice of food, including room service items. Prices not cheap, though. My room had a small outdoor area with a table and chairs, great to be able to throw open the doors even in the cold of January, The room itself was a decent size, well decorated, clean and comfortable, with a renovated marble bathroom. The staff were helpful and incredibly charming. The only downsides of this hotel are that you can expect to hear some noise, because it's an old building that has been subdivided, and that there is not much information in the rooms (no wi-fi details but don't worry, it's there, and it's free, you just need an access code from reception).

Quiet hotel, located up a twisty road, so you'd want to be fond of walking up hills. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Breakfast was OK. The staff, with one notable exception, was friendly and cheerful. There was one particular member of staff who was not friendly in the slightest, and acted like guests were an inconvenience.

Apart from that, I can highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for one night in June 2010. A little difficult to get to, but well worth it. Parked right outside the hotel, there is a small carpark as well. I don't mind walking up hills but if you're not fit maybe don't stay here. The receptionist was very friendly and recommended a fantastic restaurant a ten minute walk away (it served delicious local style food). The room wasn't huge, but was very comfortable and clean. The reception stayed open until we'd arrived back after midnight. The breakfast was delicious with everything you could possibly want served under the beautiful trees on the terrace.
