“A little gem in the hills of Nice”
Reviewed 20 May 2014 via mobile

The only thing that confuses me about the Petit Palais is why it is only considered a three star hotel. It should easily be four. I can't think of one thing we didn't like. Our room was nicely sized and beautifully appointed with a great view. The staff is wonderful, helpful, friendly and with excellent restaurant suggestions. A lovely breakfast on the patio, bravo! My only words of warning are that you have to either be prepared to walk up the hill to the lovely area where it is located or take taxis. But it's an easy walk to the Chagall and Matisse museums. Would I say there again? In a heartbeat!

A truly delightful hotel in a truly delightful setting. Very convenient for conference centre and attractions of Nice. All within reasonable walking distance. Staff very helpful and friendly. Hope to return with family in future.

I almost feel like I'm staying in a different hotel to the one described by the other reviewers, unfortunately this is not the case. Possibly different rooms are different, however this doesn't explain the complete miss in expectations of this hotel.

Our room has at least 30 year old carpet, with patches and repairs. The furniture is old and dated and doesn't match, and half of the lamps in the room don't work. In addition we have a room adjacent to the breakfast room (room 101 - to be avoided at all costs) where we hear the tv in the breakfast room playing all day long, and people sitting directly outside the bedroom "terrace" door. The described private terrace is really just a section of the common area where people sit for breakfast, there is no privacy whatsoever.

The curtains in the room don't close, so there is no privacy possible, other than lowering the shutters completely - which then requires the air conditioner even on a cool day, just to create some sense of privacy in the room. We feel like we're staying in the middle of the breakfast room.

Staff explained that we have a discount rate, so should expect a bad room - this is insane. It's not like I booked "bad room at a cheap rate", I just picked a regular room with a garden view. The expectation that they will give us the worst room in the hotel just because I can find a good price online is unbelievable.

In summary all I can say is this is in the top 5 worse hotel experiences we've had, and I would highly advice not staying at this hotel based on my experience of both the rooms and the staff response. There are much nicer and better value hotels we've stayed at in Nice.

Poorly done Petit Palais.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

This was a wonderful hotel and played a huge part in our enjoyment of our first visit to Nice . Cimiez is a beautiful residential district full of charm and peace in a bustling city . From our arrival where we were met by the most charming Patrick and throughout the following week we were treated with utmost care and friendliness by the staff . We had a garden room with its own private terrace . This was a great place to rest at various points of the day . The walk to Nice .old town was downhill and 10mins at a moderate pace. A lovely bakery half way along that route is a great place for breakfast .

Room Tip: As it is an old building the walls are not very well soundproofed . If this bothers you I suggest yo...

This is a little gem of a hotel. There may be a small walk up hill, about 10 mins but what you find is worth it. We had garden rooms which gave us a seated area outside, a real treat to sit in the warm sun as the area gets the early morning and evening sunshine. The rooms are lovely, decorated in a traditional style with a homely feel. The bed was very comfortable as was the pillows. A nice bathroom, spotless with good facilities. The only negative comment is no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, but this is quite normal in France. The reception staff were all friendly and helpful. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and worth a visit if considering a stay in Nice.

Room Tip: High room if you want a view, garden room if you want a patio to take in the lovely French sunshine.

We stayed in many hotels during our round trip in south France but this was by far the best.Located in a very nice resitential quarter of Nice, this small hotel offers all what a traveller will need.Friendly staff, nice clean rooms, wonderful breakfast etc. When we come to the hotel we were welcomed everytime with a smiling face and to come to the hotel for the second time was like coming home.
I can recommend this hotel to everyone without any doubt. Thanks to everyone for this nice service.

This hotel is perfect. On the hill overlooking Nice, it benefits from great views and peace and quiet. It's a 10 minute walk to the centre of town (probably you can do it faster but I'm 6 months pregnant).

The surrounding residential area is a paradise of majestic buildings and steep winding roads. The nearest boulangerie and supermarket is 7 mins downhill. If like me you don't want to pay €16 for breakfast, pop down to the shops and bakery and stock up your fridge. I had breakfast in my room each day taking in the view, for a fraction of the price.

The staff are very helpful.

The garden is lovely and the whole place has the feel of a hidden gem, away from the hustle and bustle if the city but still easily accessible.
