“Dont miss this museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

This museum has been wonderfully restored and redecorated and shouldn't be missed. Like us you may not know much or anything about Massena but viewing the place will make you want to know more. However it is the décor, furnishing, and art within the place which are so impressive.
There is some memorabilia related to Bonaparte which is fascinating and an art exhibition on the top floor with some very good art, particularly related to Nice. One of the attendants was especially helpful in explaining the significance of the place (his English was impeccable). Afterwards we sat in the beautifully restful and well tended garden, glad that we had made this visit

“Architecture! and Some Historical Art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

While there is a lot I learned about Massena and the political climate of the time from visiting and then researching later who all these generals and wars were I have to compliment the style of the house primarily.

The ticket entrance is near the gate and not at the main house. Although it is free you do need a ticket. In the ticket shop is a small gift area.

Once inside you will wander the library, hall, salon, and more. I took notes for my future house and small ideas that could liven up any place. I do think how grand this lifestyle must have been and also how costly.

There are a few levels to explore and the museum shifts from focus on rooms to focus on daily living to historical elements. I think 1 hours is enough for even the most detailed museum patron.

Around the outside is a nice patch of green with some benches that make a nice place to sit after your visit. Bring some refreshments and relax.

“Lovely sanctuary”

This little museum, again free, was a lovely break from the heat of the day and really made me aware of the backstory to the town- much better if you speak french but plenty of subtitled descriptions and photos...

“Beautiful interiors, wonderful garden, with a nice shop attached!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

One of the few remaining 19th c. villas in Nice surrounded by a beautiful garden with view across the Promenade des Anglais. Splendid ground floor rooms recently restored and used for official functions. Upstairs is the main Town collection, with posters and paintings of Belle Epoque and Art Deco Nice, as well as artefacts from the Napoleonic period, which we came specifically to see. Although the painting and diadem of Empress Josephine were on loan to an exhibition, we were not disappointed. Entrance is free and tickets are from the shop located behind the building. The English speaking room steward, Mohammed, was particularly helpful, as all the descriptions are in French.

“An interesting look at bourgeois Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

This place is free and is a beautiful house inhabited by a wealthy family late 19th century Nice. There are many paintings and other items of interest on Nice over 100years ago. The building is sumptuously designed. All labels are in French, so you would need a good knowledge of the language to get maximum benefit from your visit. A lovely, fragrant shaded garden available for sitting in.
