The staff at Villa Bougainville are really lovely; we were warmly welcomed and very pleased to hear that our room was ready on arrival (late morning) which was a nice surprise. We stayed for our wedding anniversary, so a special break for us.
The hotel has a really quirky layout which looks lovely, but the vintage lift often didn't come so we had to climb the stairs to the 4th floor. Good exercise I suppose!
The room was very tiny though with only one mirror inside the wardrobe so for myself and my husband getting ready in the morning, it was a case of constantly tripping over each other. The decor was lovely but there were some issues we had such as broken net curtains (as the curtain rail was fitted to close to the window so the hooks snapped every time the window was opened). We stayed during a period of warm weather and asked for our air conditioning to be fixed as it didn't seem to work on the first night (and being near the station/a main road it is too noisy to leave the window open, despite the kind provision of ear plugs in the room) only to be told that the air conditioning wasn't yet switched on for the summer. I did notice that it was working in reception when we left so perhaps just not in the guest rooms themselves? It meant for a hot and bad night's sleep every night, which was a shame.
The fridge in our room also didn't work, which we mentioned after the first night. It was eventually fixed the next day. Also the main light in the room didn't work, which was fixed but immediately broke again.
We didn't sample the breakfast so I can't comment on the food, but the coffee machine in reception was a nice touch.
Being a frequent travel (business and leisure), I sadly don't think this has the facilities of a 4-star hotel, but it does make a good place to explore Nice, if you're willing to over look a lot of small niggles!
We weren't asked if we had a good stay when we left, so I didn't feel we had an opportunity to share such comments, having that the previous feedback about the air con and the light being fixed before breaking again. Lots of potential for this little place but it needs work...
