Stayed here for Eng v Scot match at the weekend - booked two rooms. I would call it bijou and functional - no frills. The only thing that ruined it for two of us was the terrible stink of sewerage in our bedroom (top floor - right out of lift). The poor chap on reception only had a rather pathetic room spray to help the situation. We left the door open and with the shutters also wide open, managed to get a bit of a draught through to help clear the smell. Unfortunately we could not speak French well enough to stress just how it had impacted our stay, so didn't bother and tried not to let it blight an otherwise fine stay.

On the plus side, breakfast was great - just what was required and the (grown-up) children said it was their favourite meal - in spite of having eaten very well all weekend! Ample quantities of delicious juices and croissants/pain au chocolate etc. Location for us wasn't brilliant, but as others have said easy to get to/from everywhere by tram/train - so from that perspective location is fine.

Also on the plus side, reception was very helpful - we had to book cab to meet us after the match to go straight to airport and after several totally false starts of trying to book the cab ourselves, we asked the receptionist. Amazingly our taxi turned up as requested ..... outrageously expensive - but cheaper than having missed our flights!

All in all our experience was definitely clouded by the ghastly smell! Without that, it would have been a great stay.

Room tip: Do not choose Room 403 (top floor, right and straight)

Dear Sophia W,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a detailed comment about your experience at the Villa Bougainville! All our guest's feed-back are taken in consideration with the greatest attention in order to improve our services.
I do apologize concerning the inconvenience of having a bad smell in your room. Due to very bad weather condition in April and May we suffered some troubles with our pipes. Indeed the Villa Bougainville is melted in a Belle Époque building which provides all its charm but is also challenging to maintain in good conditions. I hope you will understand that this issue was temporary and independent of our will. Overall I am delighted that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet. We do offer a large choice of whether, cereals and gluten free bread, pancakes, jams, yogurt with toppings, fruit salad as fresh fruits, ham & cheese... I am really happy that you and your child found it at your taste. Guest's satisfaction is our number one priority and we always to everything in our power to satisfy your requests. Our staff is multilingual and at your disposal 24/7 to answers all your questions. I do apologize once again for the inconvenience. To not hesitate to contact me directly for a further stay with the email address : amandine@villa-bougainville.fr. Please note that it would be our greatest pleasure to welcome you again in the cosy and exotic atmosphere of the Villa Bougainville**** ! Best regards, Amandine ESTEVE

Fantastic hotel! All the staff are very friendly and helpful.

My room was small however, it was sufficient for me. More importantly it was clean and well maintained.

The location of the hotel is very good as you have the train station, Gare De Nice Ville 5 minutes walking distance down the road. The Promenade Des Anglais is approximately 12 minutes walking distance.

Stayed here over the weekend for two nights with a friend while visiting Nice.
Hotel is situated 5 minute walk from main Nice train station - Gare villa. Which is reached by the No. 99 bus from terminal 2 at Nice airport (bus drops you right outside hotel or train station wherever you prefer.
We visited Monte Carlo for the day while here, and were able to jump on the train at main station near us and 25mins later we were in Monaco,
Hotel is about 15/20 min walk to main promenade/old Nice.
Arrived at hotel around 10am and was immediately introduced with a very friendly staff member on the desk who checked us in and showed us our room(which we are able to get into before the usual 3pm check in)
Room was quaint, with a jungle vibe decor. Good size and we had our very own balcony which got a lot of the afternoon/evening sun.
Staff were extremely helpful when letting us know where all attractions and bus routes were.
Did not partake in the breakfast as so many close restaurants nearby.
Beds were very comfy and shower was a power shower. Great.
Had a safe and fridge in room for you to keep everything you wanted in room.
Highly recommend this hotel for its location, very friendly staff and price. Completely worth the money.

Dear Claire M,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It is a great satisfaction for us that our services and our staff have met all your expectations, and have made you turn an unforgettable moment!
The Villa Bougainville is a Villa Nice of a former explorer, it is melted in an exceptional Belle-Epoque building typical of the Quartier des Musicians. The decoration cultivates a felted exoticism enhanced by this decoration inspired by botany and navigation for your stay under the sign of the escape. You are immersed in a universe Exuberant & Exotic which makes this hotel a unique place of its kind! The train station is located 5 minutes by walk from the hotel and the old city is located 15 minutes by walk from the hotel. We particularly wish to make the stay of each of our customers unique and unforgettable, it is one of our commitments. Looking forward to welcoming you again very soon to Villa Bougainville in Nice. Thanks again.

The staff at Villa Bougainville are really lovely; we were warmly welcomed and very pleased to hear that our room was ready on arrival (late morning) which was a nice surprise. We stayed for our wedding anniversary, so a special break for us.

The hotel has a really quirky layout which looks lovely, but the vintage lift often didn't come so we had to climb the stairs to the 4th floor. Good exercise I suppose!

The room was very tiny though with only one mirror inside the wardrobe so for myself and my husband getting ready in the morning, it was a case of constantly tripping over each other. The decor was lovely but there were some issues we had such as broken net curtains (as the curtain rail was fitted to close to the window so the hooks snapped every time the window was opened). We stayed during a period of warm weather and asked for our air conditioning to be fixed as it didn't seem to work on the first night (and being near the station/a main road it is too noisy to leave the window open, despite the kind provision of ear plugs in the room) only to be told that the air conditioning wasn't yet switched on for the summer. I did notice that it was working in reception when we left so perhaps just not in the guest rooms themselves? It meant for a hot and bad night's sleep every night, which was a shame.

The fridge in our room also didn't work, which we mentioned after the first night. It was eventually fixed the next day. Also the main light in the room didn't work, which was fixed but immediately broke again.

We didn't sample the breakfast so I can't comment on the food, but the coffee machine in reception was a nice touch.

Being a frequent travel (business and leisure), I sadly don't think this has the facilities of a 4-star hotel, but it does make a good place to explore Nice, if you're willing to over look a lot of small niggles!

We weren't asked if we had a good stay when we left, so I didn't feel we had an opportunity to share such comments, having that the previous feedback about the air con and the light being fixed before breaking again. Lots of potential for this little place but it needs work...

All our guests feed back are taken in consideration with the greatest attention. Our hotel is a Belle Époque Building, melted in the former Villa of the famous explorator Louis Antoine de Bougainville. All our rooms are standards with 15 meters square. I apologize for the inconvenience you met with the air conditioning, indeed as part of our environmental policy we do not switch it on before June. The lobby and breakfast area work with a different system which is why it was working during this period. We were rated 4 stars by Atout France, an official commission which guaranty hotels quality.
