I have just returned from a 2 night stay at this Hotel. Booked as all reviews were good. Best thing was the view and the balcony. Other than that disappointing. No air conditioning and as its on the main road with the doors open, very noisy at night. Staff I felt were not that helpful and during our stay there was a problem with water pressure. Bedroom was small, although adequate for our stay. If you are just looking for a place to sleep and not much else then the Hotel is suitable. Location to the Old Town and markets is a definite plus point.

We've got a policy that when we travel, we like to see the water from the room. Since we live in Manhattan, and haven't yet achieved the penthouse on the Hudson, it's a rare opportunity. Searching through the hotel options in Nice, and Viola!, a reasonably priced hotel on the med with terraces in almost all rooms. Yea. Yet, usage of the terrace are pretty limited. Breakfast delivered to the room are only continental (and coffee is pretty bleak, I must say). We're fans of real breakfasts with eggs and bacon, etc, so we don't know what to do with our protein fix in the mornings! If you go downstairs, you can get the identical breakfast, but you can also boil your own eggs (all for only 14 euros each). Problem solved. We'll just go downstairs and boil a couple of eggs, bring them up to the room and deal with the crap coffee and pastries. I inquired at the front desk in advance of said endeavor and, no, you can't bring eggs up to the room. We contemplated sneaking them up, but I'm an executive and an investment company. Who wants to be caught like an errant child sneaking eggs up to the room?????

Let this be illustrative of the service ethic at the Hotel Suisse! Their objective is to enforce arbitrary rules set by management, not to ensure that guests are well taken care of. This may be a star based rule in France, 3 stars or below and guests are there to serve the staff's needs, and abide by hotel rules, and no decent breakfasts.

Even though the Hotel is on the Beach, they don't have a private space on the beach affiliated with the hotel. They have an arrangement with the Opera Beach about 3/4 mile down the promenade. You can get in for 12 euro each (savings of 1 euro!). I asked if they had beach towels at the Hotel that we could use for the Public Beach. Can you guess the answer? So, we went over to the Beach Opera (we needed the umbrellas anyway). Paid the 12 euro each and, guess what, no towels included? They did have some small, sordid towels that you could rent for 4 euro each. As we moved to our chairs we were informed no food or drink could be brought in (including water). Excellent. After we ordered our two small waters for 4 euro each, we laid our our dinky over washed towels and, and after only 40 euro (57 bucks) we were ready to luxuriate in the Cote d'azur!

Shortly after we laid down I went to adjust the umbrella so that we could be in the shade, and was promptly scolded by a server. New rule (new for us), no adjusting (leaning) umbrellas. Not allowed. Brilliant.

And so it goes. My message early in during the trip on this site was going to be: Why go at all? Later, however, after traveling to several small villages where we found very friendly people and very romatic spots, our conclusion was that lodging on the beach in Nice just wasn't so smart. Rent a car and stay in smaller, more remote locations. if you want the superior beach experience described above, drive to Nice. You'll be so much happier, we think.

Recommended for the great view at a reasonable price!

We originally wanted to stay at La Perouse, but our hopes were quickly dashed when we looked at the prices. Luckily, we had heard about Hotel Suisse via Trip Advisor and we were able to get a Sea View Balcony room. (nearly identical view as La Perouse -the hotels nearly share the same footprint - for a portion of the price)

Our view was oustanding and we loved hanging out on the balcony and overlooking the busy street scene below. The room itself was basic but fit our needs. The location was extremely convenient to old Nice.

One word of caution- stay here for the view - not the service. When we arrived, we were offered no assistance with our luggage whatsovever. We dragged it in from the 15-minute parking spot in front of the hotel up some stairs to the lobby and placed it into a corner by the front desk while moving our car to the paid parking garage a few blocks away. We were hopeful that someone might have brought our luggage up to our room during the 25 minutes we were away, but sure enough, when we got back, it was still piled up in the cramped corner where we had left it. Staff members in general were polite and pleasant, but it was clear that extending themselves for great service was not a focus area in their jobs. However, we didn't come to Hotel Suisse for the service; we came for the view and location, and for that, it was perfect!! It was clean, modern, and the view could not be beat for the price. We would stay here again, despite the lackluster service experience.

We were in Nice for 2 nights either side of our holiday in Corsica and wanting to make the most of our time there, needed a hotel close to the old town, beach and the port. Having visited Nice before, we knew that the Suisse ticked all these boxes. What we had forgotten about was the amazing view from that elevated side of the city. On our outward stay, we were given room 24 which not only had a fantastic view from the bedroom but also from the bathroom. A shower has never been so pleasurable! On our return journey, we had room 33 which had a little balcony on which to stand and take in the scene before us. (Note; along with the view comes a lot of noise!)

So apart from views and location, what else about the hotel? We paid 158 EU/nite which I suppose is fair given its prime spot. The rooms were small and wardrobe space minimal, but ok for us as we were only staying a short time. The beds felt a bit lumpy but were clean and comfortable enough. Both bathrooms were nice with good showers. The bar and breakfast room were nice although we didn't use either of them.

All in all I'd recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to spend a few days in Nice. If you're staying longer then I'd suggest upgrading to a suite or looking for somewhere a little more luxurious.

I stayed wtih my mother for 3 nights last June. First of all, as often mentioned, the location of the hotel is fantastic. We had booked long in advance, and had asked for a superior first room floor with seaview. This preference was first of all confirmed by the hotel at that time (often, hotels refuse to confirm room preferences, that's the easy way). And also, the preference was fully respected. We had a lovely room 14. People preferring a more elevated sea view or less street noice would be better in a higher room, it is a personal choice.
Although this hotel is 3 star, we preferred this hotel largely (!!) compared to its "4 star neigbour", in which we stayed last year.
I rarely give 5 points, although the "Suisse" would merit it and we will certainly return. Only small minor point that can be avoided: breakfast is expensive and average. You can have better value in Vieux Nice, a couple of minutes away.

We stayed at the Hotel Suisse during our honeymoon trip to Europe, and this hotel had by far the best setting of any place we stayed. We knew when we booked that you could see the sea, but the online pictures just didn't do the setting justice. Perhaps because we were on our honeymoon, we were upgraded to a room with a balcony (we had requested a sea view room only because we were on a bit of a budget) and it was out of this world! I really don't think you could find a better location. We were a 5 minute walk to Vieux Nice (Old Town) where there is a morning market and lots of great shops and restaurants. We were an even shorter distance from the beach, and steps from the stairs that take you up to one of the best panoramas in the city. The room was not big but it was large enough for the two of us, and the bathroom was beautifully appointed. The breakfast at the hotel was, in our opinion, too expensive (16E per person), but we had no problem finding bakeries and such to purchase something else. The staff was overall very helpful and also explained to us the best way to get to Monaco (the bus, only 1E per person each way!). The view and location are what make this hotel great, and we absolutely loved our stay . We're already talking about a return trip!

We just spent two nights at the Hotel Suisse in Nice with our 13 year old son.We were very satisfied with the visit. We stayed in a mini suite, room 42, fourth floor facing the Mediterranean. The location was perfect -- near harbor and near all cour Saleya. I really can't think of a better location for a tourist visiting Nice. The view of the sea from the hotel was nothing short of spectacular We had originally booked a standard double on line, thinking (our mistake) that we could get a roll-away for our son. We arrived at the hotel to be told that the room was too small for our son to share the room with us.We momentarily panicked. But tThe hotel staff quickly helped us come up with the solution of taking the available suite instead. We did pay significantly more for the suite (230 euros per night). But for a splurge, and as a way of remedying my own mistake, it was well worht it. The suite would be perfect for a family of four and felt huge for the three of us. We had two wonderful balconies, loads of space and closests, a separate bedroom for our son, and a huge bathroom with a jacuzi tub. The modern decor was very tastefully done and the room was spotlessly clean. The staff were all pleasant and professional. (Although it is not the warm and friendly mom and pop hotel we are used to staying in.). We didn't take the breakfast to save money and since it was more fun to go to the cafes along the nearby court saleya. The hotel had free internet in the lobby, but not in the room. I would certainly recommend the room 42 suite or one of the regular double rooms with a sea view. These rooms may be a little small, but they will be clean, well decorated and have great views with a balcony. I might think twice about a room on the first floor -- here the street noise might be a little loud and the view not as spectacular. But anything from the second floor up should be great. We'll come again.
