“Great Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

We stayed here for a few days and the hotel and staff were excellent, the location is very good being only a short walk from the old town and the port. The rooms were very clean and spacious, and the view from our "sea view room" was stunning. Comments about the lifts and access are in our opinion exaggerated as this only enhanced the character of the hotel. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was excellent. How ever the hotel is not cheap but this applies to all in hotels in Nice.

One minor issue is that depending on which way the aircraft are landing at Nice airport they do pass fairly low but looking at the way they come into land this would affect the whole of the promenade and not just this hotel. However this does not affect you at night and the hotel was exceptionally quiet which was surprising considering where the hotel is located.

We arrived to a friendly greeting and were immediately upgraded to one of the suites, which was an unexpected treat. We had to take 3 lifts to get to our room, plus some walking, although this was no hardship it is a bit of a pain if you happen to forget something! The room was very pleasant, though I wouldn't have paid the going rate. It was however completely and utterly secluded, which suited us but may not suit everyone. There is a top balcony with good views to sunbathe from and a jacuzzi. We found the hotel beautifully quiet in a bustling town and the bed was huge and suprememly comfortable. The small courtyard was charming for breakfast and a good spread was provided. There is a small pool and seating area here, although a little cramped, it is a bonus in Nice where space is not optimum. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout which added to the ambience of the holiday. The hotel is very well situated at the head of the promenade des anglais, with easy access to the old and new towns plus the port area and many restaurants. It's a lovely little spot, boutiquey and quaint but I wouldn't say luxury, I would however recommend it.

We (family of 4) stayed in a suite here for a few days in August. They were the only hotel we could find in Nice willing to put in an extra roll away for our second daughter. I sometime feel like Europe is more like China - only room for one kid in their suites:) Before we arrived, the hotel was very proactive int heir communications with us, offering to make dinner reservations, airport pick up - whatever. We arrived early (11 am vs 3 pm check in time) from the overnight flight from DC and they allowed us to check in to our room which was very helpful as we were exhausted. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Location is fantastic - great views, right on the coast, and just at the edge of town vs right in the middle of it. Our room was great - fully updated HUGE bath, nice furnishings, quality bed and linens, and the long balcony was the perfect spot to have coffee or wine. Street noise was a minimum for being right on the main drag along the coast. There was a platter or fresh fruit and complimentary bottled water, wine and champagne (one each only). Restaurant and pool are cut into the cliff that this hotel backs into - hard to explain - but super cool. It is an older hotel, so hallways and elevators are more narrow - but we find that charming while others might find it dated. Breakfast came with the room, and we all enjoyed the options presented along with the papers they had available. It was pricey - but it's Nice in August and we felt like the price was fair for our family.

Room Tip: If your budget allows for a suite with a an ocean view balcony - I think you'd love it!

It can only be the location (which is just about the only thing in their favour) which somehow earned them the 4-star rating. Yes, the location is great and actually also their restaurant (although slightly overpriced) but that's about it. Reception small and a more friendly approach to clients might not be a bad idea when you are part of the small luxury hotel chain. Access to rooms a challenge (small, outdated elevators) and the rooms in bad need of refurbishment. Stained carpet, chipped doors, very tired furniture, noise from the corridor, bad internet reception and TOTALLY overpriced. Not even the view over the Mediterranean sea can make up for this, even if you try very hard. Since the old town of Nice is within walking distance enjoy the restaurants and bars there - you are better off than staying at the hotel. Would recommend that a small luxury hotel representative visits to review (must have been quite some time since they last did this) as it is not at all in line with other properties they have on their portfolio and definitely not 4-star! The so-called "Gym" - a joke, go there if you want a good laugh but not for a workout. Breakfast outside (on a lovely morning in July) was a challenge - empty tables, but not cleaned up yet and we were offered a table inside! Look for other properties in the area - for what La Perouse charges you there are others around which give you better value for money. Will definitely not come back.

Room Tip: Really not sure what to say - sea-view only is not enough to make up for other shortcomings.

This hotel is what makes Nice, nice.
It is perfectly placed in the old town.
The accommodation is first class although the building rambles a bit as far as the room placement goes with having to take two lifts if above the first floor. Our room was on level 3 which has ocean views and it's possible to sleep with the doors open and get all the sea or fresh air you need. The rooms on the 1st floor overlook the outdoor garden dining area. The fit out is 5 star.
Food is amazing here, it's not cheap but you get excellent service and food that is out of this world. Try the appetiser of goats cheese, with fig jam served in a baked Filo pastry, with salad. It is to die for; as for the rest it's all fantastic. Wine list is good as well.
Believe me you get what you pay for.

I wanted a hotel and location that would make my honeymoon as special as possible and Hotel La Perouse was a perfect match for me and my wife. Front desk was very polite and helpful in catering for any of our requests. The room was tastefully decorated, clean and big enough for us to feel comfortable. Bathroom was also very nice and spacious. The beauty of the room/hotel however was the terrace leading onto a fantastic view of the Mediterranean and Baie des Anges. We had breakfast delivered to us on our terrace and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Not only was the food very fresh, the experience of being on the Mediterranean in that particular setting was very special. The restaurant in general was very good and we enjoyed every dish we ordered from there. The Promenade des Anglais was itself stunning and it was great to walk around somewhere with so much character. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby and were of the high quality of service and food you would expect in France.
In summary, the experience of Nice and Hotel La Perouse was a special one, one me and my wife will remember for the rest of our lives. We will be back.

Room Tip: For me, you have to get a room with a sea view. If you can, try and get the Deluxe room or JuniorSui...

My husband and I wanted an outstanding view, exceptional staff and Hotel La Perouse did not disappoint! The location was perfect and allowed views over the beach and city without the noise and bustle of the busy road.

There are a few interesting bits about the hotel (the elevators and layout can be a little confusing) but that added to the charm for us. Breakfast was excellent. Be sure to splurge and book a room that overlooks the ocean.

We were thrilled with our stay and would return.

Room Tip: Be sure to book a room with an ocean view.
