“Excellent location, good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2012

Spent four nights here in July 2012, room 404, and although some of the decor and fittings may be a bit dated my overall impression was of a clean and friendly hotel. The location is excellent, close to Nice Old Town, bus links and trams and two minutes walk to the seafront. It can be a little noisey if there is a concert in the park opposite. From arrival to departure all the staff were pleasant and helpful, our room was cleaned and bedding and towels changed every day. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the breakfast bar was replenished very quickly if anything was needed.

Stayed as a honeymooning couple for 2 nights in mid-later September 2011. While the hotel is pretty on the outside, the room (room 105 or 8 at the back of the hotel, I forget) was pretty shabby. We were not expecting much as we had stayed in 2-3 stars all month long in London, Paris, Juan les Pins, but this was the worst place we stayed all trip.
Pluses: Location. Close to beach, old town Nice and the Citadel. Great food and cafes on the 2 pedestrian only roads behind the hotel. The internet was free and worked well. Staff were friendly, but not proactive as we had to ask for everything like password for internet, toilet paper, breakfast info, where to leave the massive key when we left the hotel.
Minuses: The staff seemed confused finding our reservations and eventually put us in a room at the back on the 1st floor. The room was closer to a hostel quality, had 2 twin beds pushed together, there was no toilet paper and the shower/ bath had no curtain, so water went everywhere if you used the shower. There were burnt out light bulbs and the room was in need of serious work. While I was not horrified as I kind of expected this after the reviews, I would not stay here again. We had better hotels for the same price ($120-130EUR ish) everywhere we stayed, so don't bother.

Room Tip: Do NOT get a room facing the back (north) on the first floor. Maybe the street/ sea facing ones are...

The location is first class, being close to beach front and bus links to airport. We had a sea view room 406 , with a change of sheets and towels every day.Bed very comfortable. The hotel was very clean and presentable although dated, but this added to its charm.
All the staff on reception, and doing cleaning ,were friendly and helpful.
The plumbing and air conditioning worked well, and were not noisy, which cannot always be said for many hotels.
The breakfast was basic but adequate for our needs.
Overall we were very pleased with our stay which was excellent value for the money.

Room Tip: Room 406 had good sea view and was quiet.

Stayed at the Ambassador Hotel in late Sept 2011. Booked last minute online, and was disappointed in what we got relative to what we paid for. Positive: good location very close to restaurants, the sea, and Old Nice. Minuses - very outdated interiors (we stayed in Room 405, with ocean view, but would have settled for less of a view and a better room). If that was a "superior" room, would have hated to see a regular room! Room felt shabby and though not visibly that dirty (i.e, no actual rubbish on the floor), all furnishings felt very old in need of replacement, bathroom had *painted* tiles (which you could tell because the toilet had been replaced and tiles behind toilet had not been painted - shody repairs!), hand held shower meant water was everywhere every time you tried to use it. Bed was very uncomfortable as well - like a pull out sofa bed; thin mattress atop spring base, no box frame. Hallways were dark and dingy, elevator was unreliable (wouldn't always stop on the floor you requested), and since we were facing the main street, it was very noisy all day long (and you could hear other guests talking and coughing in their rooms, so not well insulated from floor to floor). Wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Don't get a "superior" which for us getting an ocean view - it was very noisy!

We stayed here at the beginning of September 2011. The location is fantastic just behind the Meridian Hotel. The staff were fine and the breakfast adequate. However I think we must have been in the worst room in the hotel. It was room 108 located at the back of the hotel. When we walked in our hearts sank, it was more like a room in a hostel rather than a 3 star hotel. The window looked onto a sloping roof with no view whatsoever. The decor and the furniture in the room was old and dated and the bathroom was in need of modernisation.
