“Decent hotel in the middle of the city life”
Reviewed 14 August 2010

This hotel is good for the price, so you can choose it, but you have to watch out for some characteristics.
The people at the reception were really polite and had a good command of English. What annoyed me was that at the check-in they assured us the breakfast is included in the price, but at the check-out we had to pay 6 euro per person per day additionally. And the breakfast just wasn't worth it. 2 croissants per each and a little bread plus butter and cheese, coffee or tea - that was all.
The second minus of the service was that they didn't warn us that the Promenade - a key street for people with cars is blocked because of one of those Prom' parties. We had to wander around 2 hours before the police let us pass on a pedestrian street. It appeared to be the only way to reach the parking. And that is definitely something people with cars should watch out. The hotel itself does not have a parking lot. They use the garage of hotel Massenet, so you'll have to pay 10 euro per night. The price is not the problem though. The problem is that this parking is reachable only from the Promenade and when it's blocked for a party you will have to communicate with a lot of French policemen in French (their English is really bad).
The Regence hotel is situated on one of the busiest streets in Nizza - Massena. Numberless restaurants, street performers and tourists fill the street. It's lively and nice, but there is a noise, too, esp. if your room is looking at the street.
The room was clean but really small. We had booked the cheapest one and still - for a double room it was too small. There is a safe, hair dryer, TV and really good air condition. The Internet is not free though. 3 euro per 24 hours.
Generally I would recommend the hotel because most people in Nizza are there to experience the beach, the night life, the food, the show and not to stay all the time at the room.

Overall a good, basic, clean hotel in the heart of Nice. Clean rooms, nice employees, affordable rate/night. If you have a car, there are various garages nearby, I think one parking area in particular you can get a discounted rate from the hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Regence for 3 days in early July. It's in the heart of the action in Nice. There were tons of restaurants just outside our door and it was only a 10 minute walk to the beach. The location means that it was noisy until after midnight, but it's worth the sacrifice. As others have said, the room wasn't anything special, but it was plenty big for 2 people. The air conditioning worked great - it was very hot when we were there. The reception was helpful. They even had stamps!

The bathroom was decent. It even had a towel warmer, which was great because it dried my laundry very quickly. The shower was very small. I kept hitting the shower with my elbow and turning it down. The water pressure was good and the shower head was removable. The shelf above the sink was a little loose and the hair dryer was weak.

There is wifi available for a small fee - 3 euros for 24 hours (it was 3 euros an hour at the internet cafe). I couldn't connect to the wifi from my room, but if I connected in the lobby and rode the elevator to our room, I could continue to be connected.

Breakfast consisted of some rolls, croissants and coffee or juice from a machine. It was fine for a few days, but by day 3 I wanted something else.

Overall, this hotel was great and I would recommend it. For the price, the location and cleanliness couldn't be beat!

I used the tripadvisor website to book and pay in advance for accommodation here.

The booking was made via 1800Hotels who have just filed for bankruptcy in the USA.
The hotel tell me my booking has been cancelled and they can't refund me my money because they have not been paid.

Now doing a little bit of research it appears that 1800Hotels have a history of bad performance and I question why Tripadvisor allowed them to partner with them on this website. See http://www.bbb.org/west-florida/business-reviews/hotel-reservation-companies/1800hotelscom-in-tampa-fl-90065977

So be warned booking via tripadvisor can damage your wealth. I'd welcome Tripadvisors response especially why they partnered with them despite their poor performance history.

Very good and nice hotel in the middle of everything. The room was very small, but it was clean and no noise at all from the restaurants below. The AC was extremely quiet.
good value for the money. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We can really recommend this hotel!

Nothing special about the room, but the location was fantastic. It is difficult to find and even the taxi drivers aren't sure because it is on a pedestrian street. Taxis must drop you a block off during daytime, however, early in the morning the street is open for taxis and a shuttle to the airport was available for pickup at front door. Very convenient. Tons of restaurants outside hotel. Fun area.

travelling on my own I stayed in the Regence for 7 nights and found it to be excellent. 5 minute walk to the beach and right in the middle of all the action in the evenings. The hotel itself is spotless and the staff friendly and helpful. The nightlife ends soon , after midnight so noise is not a problem, couldn't fault this little hotel and will definately return.
