“Cool hotel at reasonable price”
Reviewed 30 April 2011

Hi Hotel is pretty trendy as the photo's show, we had a standard room which was fine, not massive but then you aren't in it too long. As many reviews say, it is all open plan including the toilet so if that's not your thing then wouldn't recommend! Great shower though and REN products in the room. The roof terrace is lovely, again fairly small and only approx 10 sunbeds but at this time of year there was always space, so whilst it was a little chilly it has great views and nice place to relax. Service was fine, hotel seemed very quiet although was fully booked. We had a drink in the bar one evening but the only ones there! so best to head into town. The hotel was a little way out from the old town, in hindsight I would have preferred one nearer. Overall hotel was pretty good, we got a reasonable rate on expedia, far less than published price so worth shopping around on websites.

Ok, let me do the good points first as bad points will take a while...

Good points: Location, its 5-7 mins from the beach, 15 mins from old town. most good cafes/restaurants are near by.

Bad points: ok, so this is a hotel that claims it is different from all conventional hotels and it indeed is DIFFERENT.
No room service:This hotel has no room service. so when we woke up and ordered a cup of tea we were told rudely, "we dont do room service, you need to come down for tea"

Room size: we first checked in to mono room, I have never been into prison, but I wont be surprised if prison rooms are bigger than Monoroom. I mean this room was small. Even the toilet was within the bed room, which is not my idea of modern hotel. We then asked to change the room which they agreed to but at 30 euros charge a day. The upgrade wasnt quite an upgrade as the room was still fairly small but atleast had a door for the bathroom.

Noise: The windows were not double glazed and there was a lot of noise of repair and traffic from outside through out the day and night. For some odd reason the cleaner was based on the fourth floor and spend all her time just outside our door , making us feel very uncomfortable. The walls are thin so expect lot of noises from outside.

swimming pool: they have a swimming pool on the terrace and we found it filled with mosquitoes and insects every time we went up there. It was a real put off.

Food: Sushi, thats all you get for dinner... very very expensive.. you are better off going to many of the nearby cafes and restaurants.

Cost: You can get a booking at sheraton for the same price 5 mins away from this hotel, which is what I should have done... but hey we live, we learn....

Like another reviewer said, this is pretty much a high end, pricey hostel. It's all about self-help, there is no room service. They have a mini refrigerator by the pool and it's honor system. Same concept in the kitchen downstairs. They do not provide body lotion or hair conditioner so come prepared if you use those things. The location was at least a 15 minute walk from most things including the Train Station, except for the beach which was a 5-10 minute walk. Since this hotel did not have a restaurant on the premises, it was kind of a pain to have to walk 15-20 minutes every time to find a restaurant for lunch/dinner. My biggest shock was finding out that there is no door on the toilet. My husband and I are fairly comfortable using the toilet in front of each other, EXCEPT for when we have to go #2. Even then, seeing is different from SMELLING the other person using the toilet. Oh boy, that's just TOO much intimacy for anyone! We had the unfortunate luck of eating some bad mussels during our stay in NICE and it was the worst possible hotel to be in for having stomach issues! It's all very modern, but not sure if the hotel designer has actually stayed several nights in this hotel with a women before. This is not women friendly in that there is very little space to hang our toiletries, put our things. And the whole closet thing with the hangers being front to back and they were difficult to take out. All of it was all style but zero practicality.

Overall, for $200 US/night, I need more comforts and a door for the toilet. I would recommend people stay closer to the Old Town area for convenience if they do not have a car.

For the price, I wish i'd stayed at one of the waterfront hotels like Best Westerns or The Radisson Blu. I passed on Radisson because the reviews said location wasn't central (it's not far...if you don't want to walk 5-10 minutes along the ocean then maybe you have other priorities!) and Best Western because there were quality complaints. They looked nice too.
The Hi Hotel is on a basic street about 5 minutes from the ocean and near the main restaurant area. Rooms are quite small and our bed's legs stuck out so we each kicked them many times. No luggage storage area. despite the high tech bragging, the internet didn't work in the room and the wireless didn't work with our macs. Even though they had an Airport. They simply said "zee passwurrrd is vat vee say it eees" and didn't fix it. Using the french keyboard Dell laptops was from hell. Bathroom wasn't private, breakfast was overpriced in a small galley setup. Felt overall more like a hostel than a hotel, especially from the price. Had this been more like $180 euros, maybe, but we paid over $300 with no breakfast included. The room's projector tv and stuff were cool but overall, i'd have rather been at the Radisson. The pool on the roof is dinky and there weren't umbrellas to shield from the blistering sun.

No room service, nothing to eat at all when we arrived very late even though they advertised 24 hour food, no fitness center.
Not a good value.

The HI Beach club on the beach however is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely go there. SUshi bento boxes, Miami/St. Tropez music playing, beautiful topless french women, gorgeous waiter who looked like Jude law, cooled evian body spritzers. HEAVENLY.
Also do the parasailing, it was so much fun!!! Buy an inner tube at the drugstore, they don't have many. Enjoy Nice!

We were attracted to this hotel because it looked ultra-modern on various websites, but the rooms are tiny and the lighting throughout the hotel was alternately too dim and too gaudy--the quantity of florescent lighting gave my wife a headache and almost gave me a seizure. It seems as if the hotel was trying too hard to look cool and just became tacky instead. I specifically remember the sink in our room being set up in a way that you couldn't even see your hands as you were washing them, and as a result we spilled a ton of water onto the floor, which then became a slipping hazard.
