“Dissapointing”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

The Matisse sculptures were good, but the photographs didn't seem to have any real theme other than being of people rather than landscapes. There were a few which I enjoyed, but otherwise nothing that inspired me or made me understand why these, rather than any other photograph, had been included

“Photosculptures”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

The special exhibition (until sep 23) shows 6 sculptures by Matisse and 150 photograhps by many different artists. It is not part of the exhibition to illustrate how Matisse was interested in taking photographs.

“Opening times can be frustrating!”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

Although technically open Tuesday to Sunday, this place is very often closed whilst new exhibitions are being prepared. (My sister tried to go on seven different occasions before finding it open!) They exhibit a variety of photographic works, which, for me as a non-expert, is interesting. Excellent free toilets - a rarity in Nice!

“Prints by Denis Brihat”
Reviewed 12 January 2013

A converted theatre, the attraction is the current exhibition. We saw prints by Denis Brihat which are artisan work - printed on silver halide and then toned in various ways, some harking back to the old days of poisonous chemicals. Of particular note was the use of a solvent for the gelatine substrate that left pure matt white paper behind, resembling a watercolour. The curator was interested in communicating with visitors; he explained some of the history of the building from Belle Époque to Art Deco, and related the recent efforts at preserving some of the facets of Nice from the land developers.
