This is a beautiful little hotel. It's one of those places where you feel like you're a million miles away once you've stepped through the door and into the foyer. We stayed in a triple room which was wonderfully spacious, with a very comfortable bed. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful in terms of giving directions to different places, suggesting where to go and storing our luggage the next day when we had a very late flight back to the UK. We only stayed here one night before flying home (after spending a week leisurely making our way from Montpellier), and I would not hesitate to book this hotel again for a longer visit to Nice. Book it - you won't be disappointed!

We are here to tell you that Les Cigales was recommended to us by a co-worker. Being skittish about cleanliness/bed bugs, etc., after looking at the very many choices of hotels, we took the plunge and were not disappointed. This hotel is tucked away, but convenient. It is close to busses/train/ocean/boardwalk. It is very clean, the staff is friendly and accommodating, yet not intrusive. What other reviews say about the sloped ceiling is very true, so, if you are tall, be prepared! There is a rooftop patio that you should plan to enjoy which allows you to get away from it all. Breakfast is a great value compared to other restaurants prices--convenient and very good. Plan on walking a lot (lost one pound in one week--yay!), but it was good walking. The hotel is convenient to good food, stores, etc. As soon as you deplane at the airport, go to the bus booth and purchase a one-week pass--very reasonable and a great way to get around the city and surrounding areas. We took the train to Cannes and took a boat to St. Tropez. Take a bus to the gotta-see town of Villafranche-sur-mer. The bus also goes to Monaco and Menton (five miles from the Italian boarder). This is a great way to get the total flavor of the region. September weather was fabulous!

This lovely little hotel is located near the beach, but away from the crowds and noise. I was originally given a room on the ground floor, which I asked to be changed because I could tell that it would be noisy. The hotel did a little juggling and assigned me a different room. All the staff are helpful and friendly. I appreciate the free wifi. The rooms are okay, but the walls are very thin, which can be a problem if you're a light sleeper.

The hotel is within walking distance of the Nice train station. And only 3 blocks from the beach. There are nice restaurants in the area and grocery stores, as well.

Positives: The room was clean and well appointed, and the day staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Minuses: The ceiling on the room sloped a lot - it was difficult to avoid bumping heads. The shower had very little hot water, and ran tepid/cold quickly. Certain items could have been better maintained (the hair dryer had holes in the tube, right where a wet hand needed to hold int).

The biggest draw back, however, was the advertised airport shuttle, which turned out to be a service the hotel booked, and that didn't operate early in the morning. The night before my 5:15 am departure, I spoke with several staff people and was told I must call a cab, that it would arrive in 5 minutes. I called the night porter at 5 am to request a cab - at 5:10, he told us that he couldn't get an answer. 20 minutes later, he still told us he couldn't get an answer from the cab company and that we should take the bus (a walk of some distance with a number of bags). He finally did tell us a cab was on its way - when it arrived and we spoke with the driver, we were told the company had received only 2 calls in the previous 20 minutes; which the driver confirmed with his dispatcher. We were 3o minutes late for an international check-in as a result.

DO NOT book this hotel if you need to go to the airport! It is not worth the aggravation.

We stayed at Hotel Les Cigales for 6 nights in early June. It was an easy walk from the train station and to any location for visitors to Nice. The breakfasts were great, the room was lovely, large and very clean. The bathroom was also nicely sized by French standards. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help. The best example of this was when we transferred to another hotel (only because it was the start of our tour up the Rhone and the hotel was included) we were a bit early for check-in so we took a walk. When we returned we found a package waiting for us...a blouse I had inadvertently left at Hotel Les Cigales. They had walked it over to our new hotel. I didn't even know it was missing!

We only stayed for one night, and found the hotel comfortable. It was only a 5 minute walk down to the beach, 15 minute walk to the Old Town, or another 15 minute walk to the train station.
The room for a triple based stay was very spacious, and we had no problems with noise. Can't say much about breakfast as our rate did not include, but there are plenty of cafes nearby near Massana.
Bathroom was clean, and there was aircon, tv with good channels, and staff are very helpful with internet access and directions. I definitely highly recommend this hotel, and will be sure to come back next time we're in Nice!

We chose this hotel for our 15-day stay in Nice because of its proximity to so many of the attractions on Nice and we were not disappointed. It is a small, family-run 3-star hotel where they take the time to get to know their guests by name. Veronique and Elaine do just about everything from serving breakfast, running the front desk, concierge services.. everything they can do to make your stay perfect.
We did not avail ourselves of the extra-cost in-house breakfast but that was only because we fell in love with a Patisserie a few doors down the street. Immediately across the street is the local pharmacy/mini mart. Two blocks down and you're on the pedestrian mall with tons of restaurants, bars, stores. Another block down and you're on the beautiful beaches of Nice. The train station is also walkable but allow 10-15 minutes for the hike.
Our room had a balcony overlooking the street below and only a couple of times did the street noise/reverie actually bother us. The room itself was pretty well sound-proofed unless of course, like us, you chose to leave the balcony doors open.
The hotel has an elevator although all of the 19 rooms are located on only 3 floors.
If we could do it all again; we would again chose the hotel Les Cigales. There may be fancier, more expensive hotels but none with as much ambiance, friendliness, and service as this gemstone.
