Stayed at the Univers Hotel for 4 nights in August 2013. I was aware of the negative comments on Tripadvisor but chose the hotel because of its location. I was really surprised, the room was clean and the staff was helpful. As mentioned in other reviews, the rooms are not that soundproof. The location is great, opposite to Galeries Lafayette on the corner of Rue de la Liberté and Avenue Jean Médecin. Approximately 10 minute walk down to the beach and locaded by the main shopping street. Breakfast was served at the hotel for 12 EUR, but I took the advice from other travelers on Tripadvisor and did not eat breakfast at the hotel. I can recommend a café further up Avenue Jean Médecin, just 2 minutes away. They serve breakfast from 8 am. I would recommend this hotel to people who are traveling alone and won't be staying in the room that much. I will definitely stay in this hotel again.

Very central great location. Next to tram line but our rooms other side so not sure if noise a problem. Rooms were fine but could have been cleaner; bathroom had long hair stuck to tiles and despite room cleaned each day was still there at end of stay. Also air con was leaking, which was fixed, but water had soaked the carpet. Clearly leaked before because the damp smell was dreadful but instead of moving too alternative room (hotel was full) they kindly put an airfresh in the room! Breakfast was not great and probably best to avoid and go elsewhere, served in a windowless space. It was also chaos with no clear tables on two days, the waitress was clearly overworked. This does sound a bit negative but actually we had a lovely stay in Nice and this hotel, apart from the niggles, was comfortable enough.

Room Tip: Higher floor rear room

Front desk staff tend to be snobbish. Only one young guy was helpful to us but I can't remember his name. Room was very small with a miniscule toilet but was maintained clean all throughout our stay. Free toilet amenities. What I can't understand is why a glass window although opaque is placed right in front of the bathtub. The room we were given is facing a building with residents living across the street. The curtains barely cover the windows in the room, cheap quality. Noise filters into the room at nighttime.Hotel is a little bit old. Hallways smell musty. Good variety for breakfast buffet, restaurant staff are nice.Location is great for shopping.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the street.

Genuinely loved this hotel, has all you need for a stay in Nice.
Location in central close to shops, bars, cafes, transport & restaurants and about 10 minute stroll to the Promenade & beach.
Staff were friendly, polite & spoke good English which was great for me as my French is rudimentary at best!
Also has free wifi which again was fine for what I needed.
Didn't try breakfast as I found a cafe just round the corner.
Only slight thing to watch is the room I had in 5th floor had a small bathroom with a sloping ceiling which was pretty low - didn't worry me as I'm not at all tall! Website is clear though that these rooms have some height restrictions so probably best just to comment when making a booking if that's going to be an issue.
Overall just ideal for what I wanted at a great price, especially with Le Tour in town.

We went to Nice for a long weekend. This hotel is in an ideal location. Right in the centre and we took the bus 98 from the airport to the hotel which was very easy and straightforward. It was also one of the cheaper hotels during late April.

We did not eat breakfast at the hotel but instead opted to buy food locally which was quite easy! There is a Monoprix (Grocery store) located up the street and lots of cafes.

I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel as it is so central and convenient to get back to. It is also walkable distance from the beach, old town, and many of the tourist locations.

We had an absolute perfect stay at this hotel. We arrived at the airport and took bus 98 for 6 euros to the Massena Square. From there it was a quick walk straight up the main road along the tram of two blocks. Perfect location!

Our room had two single beds a small desk a closet and a bathroom with a shower/tub sink and toilet. Very efficient in size and very cozy. The views from the windows were incredible. A real french experience! We thought it might be loud at night but it was great and we slept really well.

We stayed for five days/nights and it was a central location for all the sights. Very convenient. The front desk has been very helpful too.

Highly recommended for the efficient Nice explorer- great place to rest your head after a long day and great to regroup and freshen up at before heading out for a night out of dinner and gelato in one of the amazing Nice neighborhoods.

Loved it and going to miss it so much! :(
