We booked Hotel Rex because of the previous reviews and were not disappointed by its location. It's slap bang in the middle of town near bars, restaurants and cafes and about 10 minutes stroll to the beach.

What it is not is quiet. We arrived on a Saturday evening and were kept awake most of the night by fellow travellers returning to their rooms and banging doors and talking, it felt much like student halls - thin walls. We invested in some earplugs the next night from the emergency chemist.

Be warned that if you're not on the best of best of terms with the person with whom you're sharing the room, you might like to be out when they're using the bathroom...

Overall, a great basic pension with friendly staff, a brilliant location and cheap as chips, but if you require even the most basic luxury of peace, then choose somewhere else!

We booked this place based on reviews...and they were spot on. Place was amazing location right by Place Massena. Staff was super friendly - even walked us to the bus stop when we didnt know where it was bc she didnt speak any english. rooms were small but comfortable and included air conditioning. just a lovely time in a romantic place, would highly recommend staying here!

We have just returned from a 3 day trip to Nice. The Hotel Rex is a simple but pleasant hotel with a fantastic location.
Rooms are clean and airy and Pierre and his staff could not be more helpful.
All in all, a lovely place and better than you would expect for the money

Well done to the Hotel Rex and all the staff - Tres Bien Pierre

Cheers

I didn't want to spend much on a one night stay in Nice as we intended to be out and about. The hotel is hard to find by driving around- just park in Place Messanna (sp?) and then walk up one of the streets. Hotel Rex is on the left hand side up one of the streets (sorry not sure which!). You have to go up some narrow steep stairs, across a bridge over a small courtyard and up more stairs. The rooms are simple but clean. No aircon but had an air blower which was fine. We heard none of the noise of Nice and got a good night's sleep (until someone decided to play a piano somewhere in the morning!). The staff were friendly. Great stay if you want a cheap room to plonk your head and get sleep. Difficult if you have problems with stairs or a lot of luggage. Had a great night and was perfect for what we wanted at a good price!

First and foremost, Michel and Peter at the Hotel Rex were so fabulous! The hotel is budget and small, but well furnished and well kept.

The rooms were very clean and ours (a triple) had a very nice amount of sunlight coming in. The walls are a bit thin so if you are a light sleeper it could be a problem for you - bring ear plugs. The haul up to the hotel would be arduous if you didn't pack semi-lightly, but if you are in decent shape it is no problem.

Mostly, the hotel is in a fabulous location if you prefer to be near everything. There is even a public parking garage very near under the plaza that was relatively easy to find. And above all the hospitality you will receive from Michel and Peter is superb.

I would definitely stay here again if cost and location were both factors - I'm sure there are "fancier" hotels in Nice, but this worked perfectly for us at 70 euro a night for a triple room.
