“Superb base to explore the Cote d'Azur”
Reviewed 13 April 2013

Arriving by train in Nice, we were delighted that the Hotel Alba was only 5 minutes walk away from the station on the main shopping street of Nice. Receptionist very welcoming and helpful giving us a map, suggesting places to visit and forms of transport. Room overlooked the street which was surpisingly quiiet at night despite the trams. Very clean and comfortable facilities, minibar, tea and coffee, in-room safe. We did not have breakfast in the hotel but had our coffee and croissant at one of the nearby cafes. The hotel is 15 minutes walk from the Place Massana, flower market and many restaurants. There are several restaurants within 5 mintes walk - try those by the side of Monprix (which also has excellent food and drink supermarket) for real French value. The seafront only 20 minutes away. Buses are only 1 euro however far you travel and are excellent for visiting the beautiful villages nearby e.g Vence ,St Paul de Vence and Villefranche. Take the train to Monaco. We stayed 6 days and filled every moment, this was a superb base from which to explore the Cote d'Azur.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the street had a better outlook, those at the back just overlook other buildin...

We were located in Room 107 which was right above the front desk looking out at the street. It was remarkably quiet when the windows were closed and they let in a nice breeze when open. Overall our stay was very good and trouble free. The front desk was very helpful keeping out bags for us, helping us book a tour etc. But the room, as I said in my Title, was very dingy. The walls had marks on them, and in one location quite a big shadowy, smeared mark. The bed was very comfortable and clean, so I took it at a one off. I would stay there again, but not in this room. Everything was clean.

Overall acceptable for our purposes as we didn't spend much time in our room!

Our needs are quite specific as my husband is a wheelchair user and I had e mailed the hotel directly to explain. The difficulties in the hotel for us were known to the staff who did their utmost to accommodate us. Well done to all at front of house. As my husband is able to stand we were able to use the small lift to take the cases as well and the wheelchair was left near reception. The lift is quite small although the staff know the dimensions so access can be checked. There is also a small step to gain access from the street. Great bathroom with walk in shower and toiletries. A big advantage having a kettle to make a hot drink. Room size quite adequate and kept spotlessly clean - we even had a change of bed linen on a 4 night stay. Easy access to the fully accessible tram. 4 euros buys a day go anywhere ticket including the buses and getting to the airport which can be purchased at the airport or from the Veolia office opposite the station. Bus 23 always has ramp access and makes getting to terminal 1 of the airport easy. From there an excellent accessible shuttle bus connects with terminal 2. Wonderful Lebanese restaurant (Socrate) just around the corner who were very helpful and served great food too. We didn't use the breakfast room at the hotel as we bought lovely breakfast foods from Monoprix supermarket just across the street where we were spoilt for choice. We bought tickets to the carneval parade and also the Battle of the Flowers on line from UK and wheelchair user plus carer have a reduction and also a space with excellent visability. Menton Citrus Festival is also worth a visit - easy by train and again wheelchair users do not pay to see the display in the park. We would definitely use the hotel again to travel along the coast.

Room Tip: 103 has a walk in shower

Stayed at the hotel for 7 days over February, & had an enjoyable, trouble-free stay. As others have said, the location is very good (railway, airport bus, shops etc). We had a standard room, which was a reasonable size, nicely decorated & very clean; nice bathroom too. The room had a minibar/fridge (soft drinks only) & a kettle - tea/coffee/milk replenished daily. Free wifi in the rooms worked extremely well. Reception staff were very friendly & all spoke very good english.

Only negative points were only 1 english language on the TV (the awful BBC World), the plastic cups for the tea/coffee & in the bathroom (though we did get 'proper' cups when we asked). Also our room (109), whilst at the back of the hotel, was also next to the air conditioning machines - didn't bother us too much, but they are quite loud, so might want to ask for a different room. But overall the good points far outweigh the bad.

Room Tip: Room 109 has the air conditioning machines right outside - they can be quite loud so might want to a...

Great hotel, located on the main shopping street, hardly 10 mins walk away from the main railway station and the promenade. The tram stations are also very close. Many fast food joints are located with 2-3 mins walking distance. The room was spacious (I had a duplex room), and nicely decorated. All the basic amenities were available. The reception staff was very polite and helpful. The only drawback was a small lift, leading to relatively long waiting period esp if you want to take your luggage. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to stay here again. It simply added to the whole "NICE" experience.

The room is small but the hotel is at a great location. It is close to train/bus/lightrail stops so within a few minutes walking you can get on mass transportation to get to almost any destination in Nice area. It is also a few minutes walk to the beach, the business district. Behind the hotel there are quite a few very nice produce stores (almost like farmer's market)
with very fresh fruits, vegetables and breads. We bought fruits and breads there almost every day and they were delicious.

Stay way from the rooms facing the main street. The traffic noises are quite bad.

Room Tip: stay away from rooms facing teh main street

the family duplex (sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids comfortably) was a perfect setting for this 2-night stay. Some minor detail flaws (e.g. no electric plug in bathroom, complimentary shampoo and shower gel not fully replaced) and the relatively small spaces, could be overlooked by the fantastic off-season value offer for this centrally located (only tramway, no cars in front on this busy major shopping street) yet quiet and clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff.
