“Good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Lamartine for only one night. The owner Monique was great with correspondence and checking our arrival time etc a few days prior to our check in, which is always nice and reassuring. She was courteous and gave us some info on Nice. The hotel is located about 5 min walk from the train station an as we arrived and departed by train it was a great spot for us to stay. Very close to the main shopping/pedestrian street where the tram line is also located, and a supermarket and patisserie just around the corner. Our room was on 2nd floor facing a rear courtyard. We had no issues with noise.

The major negative was that our air-con stopped working in the afternoon even though it was fine when we arrived. It stopped blowing cold air without us ever adjusting the setting and when we tried to adjust it still made no difference so we essentially had no air-con.

The small fridge in the kitchenette was handy in storing our food and cold drinks. Bathroom was clean with plenty of towels provided in case you needed them for the beach. But we were not provided with any shampoo or bath gel (only soap) which I thought were the basics of any hotel.

Our bed and pillows were very soft, which combined with the lack of a working air-con in mid July, made our sleep quite uncomfortable, esp for my husband. I think for the price (I realise Nice is expensive) of 120 euro per night, the facility could have been improved to make it better value.

Couldn't find a better location - close to the train station, the beach and the shops. Building itself was great - clean and quite grand looking. We had a studio apartment which was nothing fancy and if being picky could use re-painting and a new shower screen (painted all in purple not to everyone's taste and the shower water leaked onto the floor). However, perfect self catering accommodation as small aupermarket next door and it was clean, quiet, staff were friendly and we would probably go back if visiting Nice again so would recommend.

Knowing the area we booked this hotel for its location (easy access to shops and old town) and the good value it seemed to offer. We weren't disappointed. The room, whilst not huge, was comfy, well appointed and clean. The kitchen area was very good with all the cooking equipment you would need. The en suite was a good size. The bed was very comfortable and the very quiet location enabled a good night's sleep. The owner was courteous and helpful. We would stay again.

We used the residence for five nights in September. The basic "standing" apartment is well equiped, we had a bath and shower which was nice. The kitchen area has more than enough kit although we only really used the coffee maker and breadboard for breakfast.
Next door is a great supermarket, good bread and pastries for breakfast, open 8.30am-midnight, no booze sales after 10pm.
Lots of restaurants available, just look at TA. Nothing much open after 10pm and if there is a particular place you want you will need to book.
The tram is great, use it to get around for €1. To get to the residence from the airport, go to either the SNCF and walk or Cathedral tram stop and then the tram (on the same ticket).
Overall...we'll be back.

Room Tip: At the back for quiet, in front for atmosphere.

We stayed here for seven nights july/august 2012, and had a nice stay. Traveling with a child, having an apartment like this is a great alternative to hotels, as you get more space and the ability to dine in when you want to.

The apartment was nice and clean, but nothing fancy. Air conditioned, but I assume most apartments are in Nice? Monique was very nice, and there when we needed help (but there is no manned reception - you get a key to the outer door).

The hotel is very close to the main shopping street, but near it's far end from the beach, so expect many trips down that street and to the beach (it's not that long, though).
